I'm glad it's modelled after the original model instead of the Go. I loved the first PSP so I'm also sold.

The PSP2 is finally here. Sony revealed its brand new PlayStation Portable at an event in Tokyo today, giving us our first official look at the PlayStation maker's next bold foray into handheld gaming, the "Next Generation Portable." Here are the first details.
The Hardware
Sony confirmed many of the features of the PSP2 that we've already heard in the form of leaks, rumor and speculation. The PSP2 features a high-resolution, touch-sensitive OLED screen that's larger than the original PSP screen, tilt-sensitive SIXAXIS controls, dual analog sticks, front and back-facing cameras, and a touch sensitive back panel.
Sony boasts that the new PlayStation Portable is as powerful as a PlayStation 3. The device features built-in WiFi and 3G wireless connectivity and uses an all-new form of media storage for games—no more UMD.
For now, Sony is officially calling the new PlayStation Portable by its codename, Next Generation Portable or NGP. It will be out this holiday.
CPU: TBD
RAM: TBD
Storage:
Display: 5 inch OLED with 960 x 544 resolution
Wireless: WiFi, 3G, GPS
Inputs: Touchscreen, touch sensitive back panel, D-pad, L/R shoulder buttons, standard PlayStation buttons
The Games
Sony showcased a handful of games alongside the reveal of the new PSP, including new titles Little Deviants, Reality Fighters and Gravity Daze, plus games based on the following PlayStation franchises.
Uncharted
Killzone
WipeOut
Resistance
LittleBigPlanet
Hustle Kings
Hot Shots Golf
Can't wait to see the Uncharted gameplay video tomorrow.
*sleeps*
i am not sold yet i want to knwo games i am actualy interested in then i will care. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/kotaku...AE%9F%E6%B3%81 for anyoen who wants to watch the remander of the conference tho video quality is bad.
Uncharted? Sold.
mgs4 portable meh for me.
I'm sold! I'm really impressed with all the tech and ideas Sony and the developers have for it. I just pray Sony doesn't fuck it up like they did with the PSP Go.
If you can play PS2 games on it, I will be all over this. And a larger-sized, better quality screen with touch? Seems like Sony is feeling the pressure from smartphones as much as Nintendo is. I'll be interested to see what kind of media it uses. I'm glad they're ditching umd.
The device didnt look verry impressive to me just horable six-axis. Then you get near ps3 graphics no 3d, touch screens, and then touch button or some bs on the back. A cammera that when you more help the game move with you or something like that don't quite understand. But i saw no games there rely impressed me to be like oh i have to have a psp2.
http://psp.ign.com/articles/114/1146358p1.html So that conferms basicly psp2 is not backward compatable with psp1 games. I do not quite understand it what i am getting from the artical is it that will be download only as well?
The second anolog stick made me sold on this. I have a psp and it sucks having to use the buttons to look right left down up. Such a bad design imo.
But i doubt there will be metal gear solid 4 for this new hand held. I think kojima wanted to show the graphics off the hand held could do, and metal gear solid 4 is still one of the best looking games out.
if its downlod only im passing no matter what games come out on it i hate download only.
you take a stand.
will be interesting to see, if they will be able to ship the actual systems with those screens or if they will have switch back to lcd technology at the last minute. do they still have their own plant? i thought they pulled out of the oled business.Quote:

If its going to be as powerfull as the PS3, then why isn't the screen full HD? Shouldn't it be 1080p.
But, OLED is nice I guess.
I'm not a fan of the design, but two analog sticks has me excited none the less.
No more half-assed FPS portable games, thank heaven.
Slightly fug, but it's so powerful and easy to develop for. It's semi-BC with PSP games: You can download old ones. The storage medium for new games will be flash cards that hold the game, saves, and any DLC you buy.
Battery probably lasts around 2 hours.:lolz:
that's my thought too actually. The first PSP was slammed early on for its very short battery life. They must have some plan to deal with that.
It IS a sexy little system though, and with 3g it better have internet browsing capabilities in order to compare it to items like the iPod touch.
I probably won't end up buying it (I haven't played handhelds in ages) but I will say that to cram so much power into a tiny thing is truly amazing.
It's also nice to see a further deviation between the 3ds and the NGP.
trailer
i just like that they codenamed it NeoGeoPocket
portable Uncharted = sold
as long as its not worth $599 US DOLLARS!
I remember getting my NGP 12 years ago in Akihabara with Samurai Spirits! What a fucking awesome time.
apparently they're going towards flash memory card storage for the games. It's a good concept. If they could keep the price below the price of a 3DS, then it could very well stand a chance. Anyone get a glimpse at the playstation phone. Had to laugh because it was running PS, snes, and gba emulators for the game content.
Looking at the unit itself, I find this extremely difficult, there is no way Sony will be able to price the PSP2 at $250.00
Also, I could understand why the PSP2 could be exciting for the hardcore community but unfortunely I think history will repeat itself and it wont catch the mainstream attention the way the 3ds will. The 3ds has a gimmick, and even if a lot of hardcore don't care about 3D the mass market may place that above any other cutting edge thing the PSP2 may offer, sad but true.
in for 2
i figure ill get these out of the way since we know they'll pop up.
So does anyone know how to hack the psp2.
ill wait till they hack it
and it sucks cause it does not have a 3rd analog stick.
And a fifth blade on the handle.
Nice little system, was still surprised to hear they were going the OLED route but understandable give it allows for a thinner form factor going LED in general. Kind of disliking see console games just converted to portable, but given the sysem is so similar in stats to a mini-PS3 (or so they say), don't blame them. Waiting for the price of this to come in at $350-400 or something. If they can hit $299 and have some really good things set up from the get-go, it could work well for Sony.
Sounds like a nintendo fanboy to me.
Listen up, neither of these two systems is doing anything revolutionary. The 3d is unimportant. I can guarantee you most will leave it off once they realize the illusionis broken once you move your head and or system and that it kills the battery life.
As far as gaming hardware goes, the psp2 looks like it has more to offer but well have to see what people do with it.
I'm not really excited about either ATM.
I'm very glad to see SONY stepping up it's game. This device looks very promising but I am more interested in the PSP Phone that was leaked out recently rather than this new PSP2.
When quotes like that are made, it makes me wonder how much the new NGP will be. From what they are promising for specs, the price if I were a betting a man, I would guess the price to be 400+ at launch.
Not to mention flash memory? Not a bad idea except the used market will not exist anymore.
I'd think about picking one up if there was a ridge racer, seems a little too crammed with stuff though.
My pricing guesses:
Non-3G model: 300 or 350
3G model: 350 or 400
I think they'll be fucked if they charge any more than that, and there's so much power in there I can't see them charging any less.
I have to be honest and say that as much as I'd want a psp2, if I'm unwilling to spend $250 on a 3DS, I'd be even less likely to spend $300+ on any Sony handheld, either.
For me, $200 or less and I will almost certainly end up with one. $201-$250 and they'll have to catch me at a weak moment. More than $250, and you can pretty much forget about it.
I wouldn't buy a Sony handheld on launch, anyway. I remember all the problems the psp early adopters went through. I'm perfectly happy waiting a year or two for a couple hardware revisions, and if the price comes down in that time -- cool.
Day One purchase for me! The design is simple, and yet so good at the same time. Thumbs up!
