saw this too! jizzed so hard. they better release this on consoles too!
Jesus Christ.
This may bring me back.
Awesome! I pine for the days when I was beta testing Blue Burst.
My life shall be sucked away again. I was into this game hardcore on the Dreamcast and GCN, got Blue Burst but never found anybody to play with me the same level. I hope they don't do any drastic changes like they did with Universe, I could never get into that game for the life of me.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! Once this comes out, I will never need another video game for the rest of my life, and I'm not fucking joking! Back in the good 'ol Sega Dreamcast days, I was hardcore into this game. PSO defined my summer of 2001. I played every night from 8pm until at least 5 or 6am tearing up shit with my photon claw trying to get awesome weapons and awesome MAG upgrades. Words simply can not explain how happy and excited I am that Phantasy Star Online is finally getting a true sequel! The gaming gods have truly blessed us this day! :buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock:
This is great news. I hope there is a 360 version. The only thing I really liked about PSU was the strafing option. I would really like a game more like PSO/Diabloesque instead of the wannabe MMO that PSU was.
:vik:
I seriously cannot explain how happy I am about this. To get some hindsight about how sick with it I am, I had like 12 characters over level 100, plus 2 in bb on schthack over 100, and a ridiculous amount of crazy rares. PSO is one of my favorite games of all time. Its ironic. I just started completely fresh with my girlfriend and one of my oldest friends playing solely offline on the gamecube pso. My friend aaron came down, and I'm like 'man, im totally gonna do it, lets revive this shit'. For the next few hours we had the most fun in gaming in a long time.
You announce Suikoden VI, and I may need drugs to calm down.
ah, memories of dial up, keyboards, and controllers.
I was pretty bitter about pso III super card battle.
hopefully this is good and is a good competitor to other mmorpgs out now.
You know why PSO is awesome for me? Because of hunting for rares, there is always something to do. And even if you manage to exhaust any ID, you can just make a new character with a new section ID. On Cube, i'd just give my new character my old characters mag, and drag them into Ult in very little time.
The music in the forest is among my most favorite themes in all gaming history.
I am so psyched.... I really hope it keeps the old environments, buffs them up graphically, and adds more shit.
if I had just one thing to ask for,
it would be a fleshed out story.
It totally deserves one, I remember loving and
just being gripped at the super paltry story bits the
original pso peppered in.
I could see them skimping out on it again though,
I guess story really doesn't have much function in a mmorpg.
(or I'm not sure, I haven't had much experience with them outside of pso)
Nice i played the hell out of pso on the dc&gc i just hope the sequel isn't pc only.
Btw i hope for a PS3 version.
I use to play this a shit ton. One weekend I played for nearly 72 hours straight. I ended up having to wait on my party to ID and sell things and I ended up passing out at the keyboard waiting. I woke up to the title screen about six hours later.
The only time I would want a fleshed out story is if it wasn't something that forced me to play a story mode by myself or with a pre-made character. It would be awesome if they had a story mode that you could do with other hunters. Then they also had the hunter missions/runs that you could do that would be more like classic PSO stuff.
I remember playing with a few of your guys back on the GCN version with my FOmar (Lutz n8). I wouldn't mind having the game on PC, but I would honestly prefer getting it on my 360. I would love to relive those days. Shit, they could have just released the PC Blue Burst game on 360 Arcade with HD Visuals and I would have been going crazy with anticipation. But a true to form sequel, not just some episode stuff, this blows my mind.
Sonic 4, PSO2...SEGA...Don't disappointment!
i feel like everyone in this thread forgot psu was doo doo.
im cautiously optimistic about this.
psp was much better than psu though, and i'll probably pick up psp2.
i bought my 360 for psu and i still feel burned by that.
If this were "PSU 2" I would be worried. I'm going to remain optimistic for now.
PSU was shit
and if great games are defined by the amount of time you spent with them then PSO is one of the best games of all-time
not too sure how i personally feel despite my fondness for the series as i'm not sure i'm the same kind of gamer i was when i was first into the games
at the very least it's news worth getting excited about
i hope this gets a console release
my piece of shit PC can't even handle TF2
I agree, PSU was horse poop.
I liked the DS game, and the demo for PSP2 was good.
If this plays like the original, I'm all over it.
Although I have to admit, I'm getting kind of sick of these games.
I'd probably get the PS3 version, I don't want to have to pay for Live. (I would if I had to, probably).
and what about this?

Wasn't that PSO 2?
PSU was shit, PSP was a better improvement, but was to easy and enemies had no chance. PSO 2 = thank god.
I'll grab PSP2 also.
The only good PS game since the original Online releases has been 0, which wasn't even that great. I guess I'll have to start saving so I can update my 6 year old computer for this.
Zero was a piece of shit. Bigger piece of shit then PSP. That game has like no rares.
As long as it is more like the previous PSO games than PSU, I am for it. I only had my PSU account for like 3 months and canceled. I had tons of fun playing PSO on the Dreamcast with a 28k connection (due to crappy phone lines in the boonies). The game still ran good with even that connection speed.
One thing that bothered me about PSU is that it just had slightly enhanced PS2 graphics on the 360, since it also was released for the PS2. I also remember getting stuck on my 1 player game and putting it down ever since.
Doesn't it stand to reason that they're calling it PSO2 for a reason? Hopefully it'll be a true successor to that beloved classic. And, uh, they did say that too.
I'm glad about this too, because I missed out on PSO back in the day. I'd already moved to broadband, so I couldn't use my DC's 56k modem. I wish I did though. Here's to second chances. ;)
awe man, of course this game gets announced right at a time in my life where I don't wanna play hugely time consuming games like this. But If its more along the lines of PSO than PSU I will probably get it, hopefully I have enough will power not to waste all my time on it.
i was so let down by PSU...
the funny thing is i was looking for PS portable 2 details last week.
but
This news is fucking AWESOME!!!!
the question now is... console on PC version?
Personally, I like being able to chat on the PC. I'm not the type to buy those giant keyboard/controller monstrosities, so PC's the way to go for me. I haven't being paying much attention to PC gaming at all. Maybe that's cuz there's nothing to pay attention to though.
If PSO2 is on console then count me in on day one. Until then, back to PSP2.
Bump
The first teaser of gameplay footage (time index 1:30) was released over the weekend.
Looks rough, so rough that it appears to be a step back from PSP2 (imo).

OMG I'M FREAKING OUT
THIS IS GONNA BE SO FUN :buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock: :buttrock::buttrock::buttrock:
Oh my fuck.
Yes, it looks a little rough, but it's an alpha build. A lot can and will change.
I am going to try and remain calm, and not get my hopes up too high.
i'd be totally jump-through-the-roof excited for this if PSU hadn't been the most disappointing gaming experience of my life
pfft, get over psu.
PSP2 should change your mind about that.
The only engine I liked was PSO. One thing I dislike about this build is those dumb psu/psp overdone special moves. That wore down on me fast. The original PSO games were and still are the best I've played.
PSO blue burst is the best SEGA game I've ever played ever. I loved the rhythm engine to attacking. I dislike the PSU additions.
yeah i saw it
but i also thought PSU looked amazing before i played it as well
and Sega as a company these days doesn't exactly instill the same level of faith as they used to
i want to be intensely excited about this but i'll stick with very cautious optimism at this point
This is the best gaming news I could have ever heard aside from a Shenmue 3 announcement.
I came into PSO a bit late and played it on the Xbox. I drooled over screens back in its Dreamcast days but I had broadband so I never bothered setting it up since it was a total pain with that. It was awesome on the Xbox though and I had so much fun, even more so due to its voice chat feature which was pretty rare back then.
It's crazy how simplistic yet addictive it was. Something about the atmosphere of the game just grabbed me and never let go. I'm not easily addicted to MMO's either, because I get bored of most of them quick.
I was more pumped up for Phantasy Star Universe than any game in recent memory but was so let down. I am glad SEGA seems to be acknowledging that PSU let everyone down by naming this Phantasy Star Online 2, which makes me pretty confident they will stick to the original formula that worked. Pumped.
The fact they are naming this Phantasy Star Online 2 gives me a ton of optimism because it's a sign that they know they need to pick up where they left off properly this time around. Even if they stuck exactly to the original formula and simply added new drops and locations I would be psyched. Here's hoping for great new innovative additions though.
Oh wow. You still have the basic setup of PSO but with sped up combat. I can see your basic three attack functions as well as your 10 hot keys. I very well may have to get this :buttrock:
I hope there is a console release.
I'm one of the very few that enjoyed Phantasy Star Universe. The screens look great. I may actually subscribe to this for a few months.
I hope they bring back Mags, and not that moe shit they used in PSU.
Hey, looks koll.
Makes me wanna 360 or whatever this is gonna be on.
rough? that shit looks tight as hell.
I think it needs to take a step back from PSP2. While those are great games, there is almost zero variety in the classes. In the later PS games, there was no variety. Everyone could use everything.
They need to make the platforms cross compatible. I'm playing this on PC, but all my irl friends are console whores.
I really hope there is a console release of this.
360 please.
:buttrock:
Hit it up again.
Here's an HD, translated version of the video released a few days ago.
One thing stands out the most, "randomized dungeons".
This is actually looking pretty good. May finally get involved in this franchise.
I am so there! ............................................. (still there!)
As of a couple of months ago- PSO is still going on 360 btw, which to me is amazing. Although it's mostly just those wierd gamer types who have their characters 'fall in love' with another character and get married and just sit in the lobby and hold hands and chat and stuff.
I never have understood what was up with that.
But PSO2? I can't wait, I guess 360 would be my preferred platform, but alls I really care about is being on the platform with the most players.
I was a bit of a PSO addict for about a year...
Sold Sold and Sold!! Looks sweet! Also hoping for a console version. If not, I'll still get the PC one.
I hope the next video will show off the magic users. I always play support classes so even though the game looks really nice, I could care less about the guns and giant tree sized weapons. I'd much rather roll another FOnewm and run support while throwing out giant screen clearing magic attacks. I still think it was the most fun I've had playing a game online. I will check it out when it hits the PC. It'll be nice to use voice chat.
Wow, this looks amazing. Was mildly into the first PSO but never got deep into it. The action seems very fast paced and quick. When does this come out?
