Even when people shit on him, I still liked him... not sure after this, I can. Wow.

Sucks, man. I used to love the first couple of Lethal Weapon flicks, Mad Max, Road Warrior, etc. But this dude is clearly pretty divorced from reality, not to mention a world-class bigot (like, bigger than Greg N).
Kind of hard to watch his stuff now.
Oh wow! I was going to start a Mel Gibson topic just now too.
The difference is, I was going to leave this video instead:

But seriously, it's going to be tough for him to save his career. Maybe taking a break from show business for some 5 yrs might help.
Perhaps there's good reason.
That's fucking crazy. We've all had our dark days, so I try not to judge, but wow.
It won't change my opinion of his work tho. His movie career is one of the best ever. I was about to go watch apocalypto later.
he sounds like he's going to pass out...lol
He does sound pretty crazy, but can everyone here honestly say you've never had a pissed off conversation with a woman that you are glad wasn't taped and played for the entire world?
Yeah, they've been playing Mad Max's words like a broken record on the local news all day today.
I usually don't find stuff like that funny, but my gawsh at the 3:00 mark when he was like "WhaT WHAt!? It hit my funny nerve.
Like Genji Said. Every guy has his moments when he just gets a little nuts, but alot of shit you say is just hot air. I don't know though, she's talking too calm as if she's setting him up. Kind of fucked up.
I only listened to the first 30 seconds or so, but she's doing the 'calm' thing, the effectiveness of which cannot be overstated. That is actually a personal favorite tactic of mine to use in an argument when I want the person I'm arguing with to go from merely being angry to completely losing their shit.
Whatever crazy and probably inexcusable shit Gibson may say later on the tape, keep in mind this woman is purposely maneuvering him in that direction. Because I'm assuming she made the tape of the conversation, which makes the 'calm' thing all part of her plan.
Whole thing is academic anyway. Mel lost me with all his racist shenanigans of the past few years. Nothing he does now is going to move the needle in either direction. But it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the Lethal Weapon or Mad Max movies at all. The characters are always separate from the actors in my mind. I did make a decision when all the racist and anti-Semitic shit went down that I wouldn't be supporting any new movies of his from that point forward, but I'm still perfectly fine with the classics I grew up with.
I mean, what are you going to do? Actors are often odious people, and however bad they may start off, Hollywood usually manages to make them worse -- you just don't always know about their defects. If you want to boycott movies featuring terrible people, you're not going to be left with much to watch. Maybe some indie stuff and a couple documentaries.
wow... what a fucking nut.
In CA recording another person over the phone is illegal without their consent.
I'm still okay with Mel when it comes to his classic movies. The last movie that he was in that I enjoyed was Payback (both versions). His portrayal of Richard Stark's 'Parker' was done very well.
Come to think of it, I think my favorite Mel Gibson movies involved him acting as a borderline psycho (Lethal Weapon, Mad Max series, and Payback).
:spock:
Mel always brings the lols :lolz:
So is he pissed because she wouldn't give up the punani? Sounds like it.
Payback is a sweet movie.
Totally been there. I am totally about confrontation. I think fights build a better comfort level, because its like 'we've explored this territory'. Its very dependent on the personality. I think passive aggressive nature in a relationship is like the worst thing and leads to the worst fights of all when someone finally snaps.
Mel sounds like tourettes guy
I've had this in my photobucket since october 8 from last year, I screencapped it myself, I was going to make a thread so others could try and find it for themselves, to pause at the right time. But I just forgot.
Now, now is the right time.

Well, she's definitely a gold digger.
If not for the money why else would a woman put up with shit like that?
Spiritual common ground lol.
she's playing it so cool cause she know she gonna get a big pay day out of the recording:rolleyes:... you can really feel the passion in Mel's voice:lolz: top notch actor +1 for William Wallace
It better be.
Be warned though, it's a slightly more metaphysical take on the story. John Boorman really delivered a visionary film that asks a question that should naturally come up, given the premise, but almost certainly wasn't intended by the novel's author.

Lee Marvin was the fuckin king, man.
Definitely- she knew full well there'd be a custody battle (which is currently ongoing), and that ammo like this would be golden.
And she's also filed for a restraining order against the man. I would assume that phone calls like that one don't really hurt the cause there, either.
Dude honestly seems to have no idea that he's his own worst enemy in such a huge way and that he needs serious psych help (though that's obviously not going to fix his massive amounts of bigotry).
Thanks for posting all those movie posters Kid, now I'll be sure to definitely watch it.
Because of the movie posters.
Fuck, I might watch it again tonight.
A 17% increase nationwide for movie rentals for the Lee Marvin psychological-thriller, 'Point Blank', may be attributed to this thread.
:lolz:, poor, pissed mel. Does sound like a total radge on the tape, I think it's also pretty despicable setting someone up like that :oh_no:
Gibson doesn't deserve pity.
There are many, many ways to vent anger/disgust/etc. The way he did it was nothing short of abuse. No one should have to put up with that.
He's shown a history of being unstable.
He has no excuse.
I was looking for a photo I posted after his anti-Semitic rant a few years ago, but the link was dead. The only replacement I could find was this:

Just listened to the whole 8 minutes.... he sure is a bit fucked up in the head, the worse thing though is he does actually beat women up which makes him a coward.... saying that though, if they made a lethal weapon 5, I would defo go and see it.
It sure does look like a setup from how calm she is, she doesn't seem like she cares for him anyway... telling him to get medication. lol
My favorite quote about this meltdown is when Howard Stern said "Alec Baldwin gives that phone call 4 out of 5 stars."
Mel is definitely a creative dude.
I don't think that was the point I was making. More that she decided to make a tape and purposely antagonize him on it because she wants something out of it. You can hear a couple points in that call where she is clearly leading the conversation in a particular direction to elicit a specific response from him. And he being the out of control wack-a-doo he obviously is, graciously provides it for her.
You say no one should have to put up with that, and I agree. But she shouldn't have BEEN putting up with it, either. The fact she has been suggests she's screwed up in her own way and probably not some innocent babe in this situation, herself.
Everyone who's starred in Lethal Weapon has gone to shit.
I've hated Danny Glover and Mel Gibson for years now, and Garey Busey has some pretty serious brain damage.
Actually, I think they all have some sort of brain damage.
Mel is crazy and a bigot. But to be fair, we still don't know the whole story behind it.
