They're filming this over in Atlanta right now. A few of my friends were going in as extras. Not sure how that turned out.
SUPER excited about this. I think AMC will do it right.
I've really been looking forward to this since they announced it. Frank Darabont is great and Robert Kirkman has had a lot of input on the show.
I was somewhat concerned with the fact that its on network tv as opposed to HBO or something, but after seeing some of the gore they've had in Breaking Bad I don't think there is much to worry about.
The only negative for my personally is that I've been wanting to complete my collection of The Walking Dead comics and this show will drive interest (and prices) up considerably I'm guessing.
EDIT: Wow, didn't know Greg Nicotero was involved with this, even better.
I've been reading comic books since 1976.
No series has continually held my interest for as long a run as The Walking Dead has.
Never read an issue I didn't like.
Needless to say, given all the production behind the TV series, I'm pumped.
Heh, when I saw this thread, I thought to myself, "I bet Taiso posted in there already." :D
I have to admit, my enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that it is AMC. Their record is hardly spotless, and they seem reluctant to really give the creators total freedom like HBO does. There won't be any nudity or f-bombs, for instance. Actually, I don't know if they allow swearing at all, come to think of it. I know FX has a ridiculous 'you can say shit but not fuck' policy, which I thought hampered the Shield unnecessarily.
Anyways. The Walking Dead is good, though not as good as Taiso makes it out to be (sorry man, but it needs to be said :)). I bet this series will be solid, if nothing else, but I doubt it will reach those sublime heights the best HBO shows attained.
I don't think lack of nudity is going to hurt TWD in any way. I've read the entire series and can only remember a few parts with nudity in them and they weren't anything major. Maybe just two people laying in bed or something. Not even full frontal.
Man, I'd really love to see this, Frank Darabont is great.
But the chances of it coming to Japan are slim, and my provider has stoppzored my teh torrenting.
Guess I'll have to make do with the comic.
When will it be on?
AMC is kind of a weird network for this.
The article says in Oct.
The comic was interesting, but I am not enthused over AMC. Funding will be low. There are a lot of ways that could manifest itself badly.
Whoa, hey, relax. I'm just ribbing you man.
And STK ribs me in turn. See? No big deal.
(*sob*)
It's not specifically the lack of nudity that concerns me, it's the idea that they won't be able to do whatever they want. Clearly AMC doesn't have the 'anything goes' policy that some cable networks do, and I wonder if that will hamper the series. That's all.
Yeah, that too. Let's hope this isn't the case though. I would love it if this series is great. And it is zombies. It's pretty hard to mess up zombies when you have good source material.
:buttrock:
I've been looking for more post-apocalyptic/zombie style comics and haven't found anything matching the quality of The Walking Dead. Definitely looking forward to this with no other zombie movies on the horizon. I need my fix.
A buddy of mine was lucky enough to have Rob Liefeld Youngblood page that Kirman really wanted. He traded it to him for some Walking Dead art as well as a 4-page cameo appearance in the comic book itself. If you find a zombie with a Youngblood shirt, that's him!
I finally got caught up with the comics and I have to say, there's very few books, films or TV shows out there that I honestly get emotionally attached to the characters found therein, but this comic series has got me firmly wishing for the well-being of its fictional cast even though I know in the end they're all just going to end up dying or being horribly maimed over and over again.
It's been a while since I've looked forward to a new series. AMC is turning into my favorite channel.
Honestly, it looks a bit cheaper than I imagined.
That's what I was trying to say earlier: it's a very sweeping story and a lot of large set-pieces and make-up and a cable TV budget is never going to be as much as a movie could pull off.
Shows like Mad Men aren't nearly as complicated from the technical standpoint, and it's exactly the part that requires funding.
Then again, as long as they emphasize certain sets like the camp, the prison, etc over others it might work.
With that said, I liked how some things looked, like the new tank-hiding scene.
They'll get it right.
In order to truly treat the subject matter accordingly and focus on what matters, it needs to be more than a movie. It needs the extra hours to sync in to what makes it more than a zombie comic.
It'll be fine. I'm not worried about it at all.
The premier episode leaked online.
I never read the comics, but the episode was amazing! Plenty of gore all around. I even shed a tear at one point. v_v
This might be my new favorite show. :vik::vik::vik:
The worst part for me is now waiting to see what happens next. D:
Just watched it, if they can keep this up for an entire season or more it's going to make for a pretty damn good show I think. It's better than 90%+ of any zombie movies Ive seen.
Glen makes a voice cameo appearance.
When does this air?
Airs on Halloween.
Man, I'm so tempted to download this first episode. But I think watching it on Halloween night will be cooler.
Well...I remember them making a pretty big deal about specifically being able to do whatever they want. This show has more gore than any cable show I've seen...
Airs Halloween at 9 central.
Couldn't help myself.
Got the episode.
Loved it.
Will watch on Halloween.
Will buy the blu-ray when it's released.
Great episode.
i've got the torrent of the first episode doing its thing now
with the number of people seeding it looks like it will be done not too long after i finish typing this reply
nice
Stop tempting me to download this, its only another couple days til the show premieres.
I have been looking forward to see this since I saw the preview. I was like wow...my dream series...alive...but dead. :tickled:
the first episode was extremely promising
if this continues i think we're looking at a truly phenomenal television series here
Just watched the first episode myself. I didn't cream my drawers the way a lot of people did, but I agree that it looks like a pretty good show. I thought it had just the right amount of B-movie feel to it without getting too cheesy. Solid stuff.
My only real gripe was I thought it was a bit overly slow paced, but so's the comic. I do hope they pump some parts up, though. We don't need four seasons in the prison, for instance.
Actually, make that two gripes: watching the opening on the screen reminded me how Kirkman lifted his whole introduction from 28 Days Later. But that's a pretty minor detail when you get right down to it.
think very carefully about which Walking Dead TV series thread you people choose to post in because it may cost you your life
Waited until last night to watch this instead of downloading it. Great start. I guess it's a little to slow getting started for some, but they need to develop these characters. I don't mind slow anyways, as long it's good, and it is. Makeup effects are awesome in this so far. Went by really fast for being over an hour long too. This and Boardwalk Empire just fly by when I watch them.
Waited till it aired last night and I have to say it's off to a pretty damn good start.
I actually didn't think it felt or looked cheap as some people have said. That might just be the blandness coming through from the comic, which while well drawn has never really been intended to jump off the page.
It will be interesting to see what kind of pace they give the TV series as the only problem I've had with the comic is that it really drags on in some places.
I watched it late last night and I enjoyed the show. Im looking to see another episode soon. I had no idea it was and hour and a half.
I liked it. A little bit too slowed paced though.
