It's all about Classic Game Expo.

Giby is.
My friend's roommate is. He has a pretty good Rufus. Then again, every other SSFIV player does too. :D
I nominate LWK.
I'd love to go as a spectator. I'm only good at unbalanced/ out dated fighters with no tourney relevance. EVO wouldn't be for me.
I'll be there. Pool M for SSF4, pool B for HDR
I haven't gone to EVO since 07. I won't be there this year because SUPER IV isn't a huge deal to me and I can't care enough to really be passionate. Last game I really cared about in terms of events was 3S, and it may be the last fighter I ever took truly for real. Feels just easier to not be involved and play casually because of all the time it consumes to be consistently strong competition. 5 day a week visits to arcades, etc. A lot of time investment. I've been using that time tiling a floor and doing college more as well as spending more time with my girl, as well putting money into investment and not into machines.
Fighters are fun if you really have that heart, but the bottom line is the amount of work, time and knowledge it requires is much better suited for real life situations that make bank or move you forward in general. You can really fucking binge out in that scene and not realize 5 years has passed in a instant, and all of a sudden you aren't a kid anymore, you're a adult with a big ass gut with zero prospects. Its all about moderation and catching yourself.. I have a hard time taking a lot of my old passions seriously after working my ass in college. It just doesn't feel meaningful like it once did, and maybe that is because I've sort of shifted interests the last few years.
I also really don't like the attitude that SUPER or SFIV brings out in my close friends, and its like amazing how childish that game can make almost anyone.
Maybe i'll get that competitive spirit back some day, but I'll just settle for my casual gaming time with less time investment for now.
My prediction? Daigo/Mago sharing either first or second. If momochi goes, count him to. Wong placing after the japanese, maybe 4th or 5th place. I don't see him ever beating the japanese SF players for first. He can beat em here and there, but I see Daigo or Mago in first/second, and everyone not from jp hazing along, with Valle in a strong 12th, losing to some gimmick style or a weird Abel.
I really think Daigo has this whole tourney free outside mago and the other japanese. Nobody has any idea how amazingly quick or insane that guy thinks. Hes so far above the cut its beyond explanation, no american ever has come close to understanding that guy. You can't even sum it up to experience or a routine, that guy just has the purest heart needed to be one of the best ever.
I also feel that EVO should still include 3S. That game gets crazy hype and is way more meaningful then MVSC2. But Melty Blood gets a top spot? C'mon.
Good luck to BBH then. Who else is in your HDR pool.
Daigo's actually a pretty interesting guy. I didn't know what to expect out of him when I watched his blogs and read his interviews and whatnot, but for someone who lives Street Fighter, he's pretty introspective. He's not just a brain dead idiot with nothing to offer other than 'I love Street Fighter.' I find his non SF related anectodes at least as interesting as his SF related ones. Seems like a cool cat to me.
oh shit my friend is in your SFIV pool BBH. Should be dr funkatronic or ryu311_funk, tricky dirty ibuki player :).
unfortunatly I couldn't make it this year
A few friends of mine are. Cheer on Andrew P for SSF4! edit: he's in pool P
The Vegas Crew will be in the BYOC area. I'll be taking as many photos as I can.
I wanted to do the all-female invitational, but work screwed me over. :(
http://www.caextreme.org/ is better:angry:
the inclusion of a shit game like melty blood over almost any other game has made me realize evo is a farce and a much better tournament could be created.
i mean cmon, console ports?
lol melty blood? like, for real???
Melty Blood has proved itself to be a strong competitive fighter over the years. Any earlier versions, yes, was a mess but Actress Again actually is a promising title.
I was too poor and busy to go this year which really bums me. My find friend is going for Super4 HDR and T6 probably will be under "Proto Legend" so if you see a lanky kid with a creepy mustache that's probably him. He is in group B and is already 2-0 with DeeJay.
I also wasn't ready since my stick skills are still not up to my pad skills.
And I'm sure you'll be able to scrounge up enough Vewlix or Namco Noir cabinets along with the arcade hardware for all of the games that are being played (SF4, Tekken 6, Melty Blood, Marvel vs. Capcom 2).
Or, you could let Sony sponsor your tournament and supply you with plenty of PS3s and then play ports of the games which are more or less the same exact thing.
Also keep in mind that there are console tournaments in Japan too, God's Garden for example. And the people who actually play the games don't really seem to have a problem with it.
I predict Tokido will take SSF4.
I'd like to go to EVO, but Giby scared me with all the talk of people smelling like shit. That, and if I was in Vegas, I'd probably want to be anywhere else other than in a cramped room with a bunch of smelly nerds playing video games.
oh shit I heard FlashMetroid didn't make it out of pools..... bad day For FL since he's pretty much the best in the area.
I got to see him destroy people in Orlando a month or two ago... his Viper is pretty sick... I hear he lost to a random Honda/
Welcome to just about any other convention or function that attracts people. If I had a dollar for every, buy a bar of soap or take a shower joke thrown around at cons, I could run my own. I know a couple of conventions actually have it in the convention rules for people to practice good hygiene, but I've never seen anybody get kicked out because they reeked of ass.
Watched a really good T.Hawk player on the steam this afternoon, not sure if he advanced far. How many folks came from outside the US? I saw Daigo was there, but did Mago come too? Didn't see his name on the list. I saw a few Korean players, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do this year.
I'm gonna be in Vegas very briefly this weekend. EVO (the fighting game competition) is going on at Caesar's Palace.
Is there any reason I should go check it out? Or is it just a bunch of dudes waiting for their turn to play?
If I still lived there - I'd be down with just hanging out and watching people play (if they're good). But - I'm gonna be strapped for time...
I NEED THE INSIDE SCOOP
(Like the one time I decide to make a thread - as soon as I make it I find the evo thread. Dammit. I'll go read it.)
Marn is out, Wong is out
Didn't Wong just win?
I'm impressed by the quality of the stream. Ed ma might go far.
My thoughts on the demo of MvC3 Capcom has set up in the ballroom:

Man, Sabin's dhalsim looks very annoying and tough to fight against. His control of space is scary. So far I am impressed. Tokido lost to JR in an akuma mirror match. It was unexpected.
It's regrettable that the current stream quality is absolute crap.
Winners Bracket
Daigo Umehara (Ryu) vs. Lamerboi (Guile)
Shizza (Chun-Li) vs. Alex Valle (Ryu)
J.R. Rodriguez (Akuma) vs. Mike Ross (E. Honda)
Dr. Chaos (Ken) vs. Soon Young Yim
Justin Wong vs. Arubi "RB" Kao
Vance "Vangief" Wu (Zangief) vs. Banana Ken
Henry Cen vs. Rico Suave (Abel)
Ricky Ortiz (Rufus) vs. Ari "fLoE" Weintraub (Chun-Li, Rufus, Sagat)
Losers Bracket

I do not envy the fire marshal sent to inspect that ballroom...

Tekken 6 pools are about to begin, this is what I've been looking forward to.
The only reason I'd go to something like Evo is meeting people I know from here --the idea of going to Vegas only to sequester myself in a convention room that (as been described by past attendees) has people with questionable personal hygiene sounds sort of bleh. I love Vegas too much and I'd be too busy hemorrhaging money, and I don't even gamble.
Now, we've thrown around the idea of having a sort of International Neo Gathering in Vegas at the same time Evo which does have the benefit of appealing to people who are already going to Evo as well as people who would want to meet up with Neo people and just go enjoy the fun parts of Vegas. We could pool money to get a nice suite somewhere as a game room and sort of call it the NG.com Hospitality Suite and have a nice casual environment.
Booze. Neo. Vegas.
Stefan how about not stealing this shit off srk and giving some credit to the original posters? Who is gonna know your top 32 was c and p'd right off the outcome thread? I am not being a dick, because I am not sure if you've thought far ahead to know what you're doing, but if I was on the receiving end, i'd be at least annoyed.
Right. I'd love to meet up with everybody in Vegas. I would throw some money in the pool as well. I would sort of just want to hang out, though. Get to know people, converse, grab a bite to eat, and maybe drinks afterward.
If we happen to walk past a big red with Samurai Shodown II, then so beat it..
That Jason Cole vs. Daigo match in HDR was the best one I've seen so far.
