A little late to the Party here.
Seems like the PSP has been a pretty rocking little system now for a couple of years.
I'm interested in getting Peace Walker and I know there are quite a few turn based strategy games on the system that would probably interest me.
Plus it seems like the system has good synergy with the PS3.
So what titles are really worth it on this system.
Is the $199 Peace Walker bundle a good deal?
I've never used a 3000 model, which is what's bundled with Peace Walker. I heard the screen has issues, but who knows.
For good games that I own or have played, there are Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, Lumines, Crush, the two Macross games, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy, MGS:POOPS, Practical Intelligence Quotient 1 and 2, Jean D'Ark. Ikkitousen: Eloquent Fist is pretty good too, at least when you keep in mind it's a beat 'em up from the late 2000s.
If you have the money, I say go for it. It's a decent system, but it doesn't have a ton of good games either.
Any other worthwhile beat'em ups, preferably 2D.
Anything comparable to say Astro Boy: Omega Factor (yeah I know that's asking a lot.)

there are countless more as well but thats just off the top of my head titles to look at. It really is a great system that after such a long period of mediocre sales is now finally picking up. Sony has stated they will support it with their "10 Year Lifecycle" business model so we should still see games on it for another 5 years.

If you get a PSP, don't bother with a Go. Limited storage, it's expensive, and you can't sell games you don't like.
Make sure you get at least a 4Gig memory card to DL PSN games, demos, and PS1 games.

I just don't enjoy the Disgaea series one bit. Played a bunch of 1, and tried to play Disgaea 3 but I just couldn't do it.

I'm interested less in JRPGs and more in action-rpgs or turn based strategy/tactical RPGs.
Oh I totally forgot about Yuusha30 / Half Minute Hero. I'd love to pick that up. The demo was great. Which is another good thing about the PSP - you can download any demo you want online and transfer it to your PSP. Hours of free fun right there. One thing that pisses me off though - and I'm sure you can tell this by the games listed so far - is that a shitton of the games are ports: Final Fantasies, Riviera, Ghosts and Goblins, Persona 3, Popolocrois, etc, etc.
If you don't like Disgaea, you probably won't like Jean d'Ark, though.
Ulasamosa, the 3000's screen issues have to with the arrangement of its pixels. Normally, they are arranged vertically, but for some reason, the 3000's screen arranges them horizontally. This creates a certain amount of scan lines. Sony has admitted that they can't fix the issue, since it's a hardware based problem. I'm sure if you google "PSP 3000 screen problems" you can find a lot of info on it.

I know that Lags is an RPG man, so here's my suggestions on that.
Final Fantasy Series of course.
Valkyrie Profile Lenneth which is a remake of the first VP.
Lunar SSS 'cause it was great back then and it still is now.
Actually, I take that back. I think Jean d'Ark is a more solid and simple strategy game compared to the NIS games. It basically comes down to upgrading your stuff and relying on rock-paper-scissors gameplay, as opposed to Disgaea, which just seems too loose for me. In Jean you have a set party if I remember correctly, whereas in Disgaea, you're creating or contracting allies.Quote:

I'm generally a fan of strategy RPGs. I just didn't care for Disgaea. There was nothing engaging for me that would make me want to keep on playing. There is a lot to do in all the titles, but I just never cared to do any of it. I didn't mind the quirky story and humor but I definitely don't think it was good.
I also didn't really think the gameplay was that exciting. It was just boring for me. I also didn't care of the puzzle aspect with the colored tiles.
Oh, another one I've been meaning to play is Pangya, a golf game with SD characters. I hear that's pretty good and it's cheap too. I just need to make some shelf space...
The best PSP game I've ever played is Crush. Innovative, stylistic puzzle/platformer hybrid. Hilarious story, awesome music, good graphics (both 2D and 3D), and an incredible gameplay mechanic.
Probably my second favorite game of this entire console generation.
I loved that game so much, I wrote Zoe Mode a letter. You really feel smart after figuring out some of those puzzles.Quote:

This is going to sound like a really weird suggestion (especially if you aren't some anime-head) but if you ever liked Sega AM-3's Virtual On back in the day, check out Gundam vs. Gundam, published by Bandai-Namco but developed by Capcom. It's actually a pretty great game and I believe is now on Japan's Greatest Hits (or whatever they call it there) so it can be found for about $20-$30.

PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, Ridge Racer and DJ Max Fever have been my favorites as of late. Well I decided to get the Peace Walker Bundle. I'll pick it up this week. I have a coupon at Best Buy and I have like $80 in change saved up that I had no idea what to spend on. This seems like as good a waste of money on a material possession as any other item I'd be inclined to buy.
