So far, this game is pretty rad. I have to say, though, that it'd be nice if they offered true online co-op instead of ad hoc. None of my friends even own PSPs (though a lot of 'em have DSes).
Any of you dudes got a PS3 and want to try the online ad hoc thingy? I bet that this game is fun in co-op.

Will buy this coming weekend. Have been looking forward to this. I loved Portable Ops.
Been cruising through this for over a week now. I'm enjoying the game-play; feels pretty good, though controlling the camera can make heavy combat a bit of a chore. Otherwise, sneaking around poses no issues. All the stuff you can do at Mother Base is a lot of fun and is where I've sunk a lot of time into. I was roaming around the other day to various places in town, popping into the Recruit option whenever I was at a place with wi-fi, grabbing new soldiers. As for the story...it's meh. I'm a good ways into it, so I'll see how it all plays out.
I've been meaning to grab it, but finances have not allowed for it just yet. Can you actually play with someone online, rather than just in the immediate vicinity?
I don't believe you can play online, unless you use a ps3 as a bridge. I'm not positive though, as I haven't tried.
I've sunk about. 11 hours into the game (quite a feat for me to do in a week) and I just got to Chapter 2. This might be bigger than MGS4.
I just had the first WTF story moment. You know that moment in every MGS game since part 2 (I LIVE THROUGH THIS ARM) where the story takes a turn for the absurd. I won't spoil it, but you'll know what it is when you see it.
Has anyone picked up any special soldiers yet? I accidentally found Hideo Kojima, he has an S rating in medicine.
The game has local multiplayer only, unless you have a PS3 with WiFi and adhoc party downloaded.
And there's a thread about it in Handhelds.
So the recruit option does come into again? I was wondering where that feature was from portable ops. I just started playing the game and didn't see that feature yet.Quote:

Also, is no one playing this...? It's a great game. I'm really surprised how much MGS they crammed onto a little UMD. It's impressive.

I remember hearing rumors that this would be ported to a console... PS3 most naturally. Which I hope it does; seems to have more than enough content to justify one.
Obviously, the selling point here is that its a full featured MGS on the go, I just wish the PSP platform was... more, if you catch my drift.

You should, it's really good. It is a bit of a time sink, but you can play it in relatively short increments if you like. Anything but a big main story mission can be done in 10 minutes or so (and even the main story missions aren't super long).
You have to take out/capture all the escort soldiers. They come in waves. When you have them all taken care of, just damage the vehicle a bit, and the Commander will pop his head out every time.Quote:

In the battle with the Hind I used a RPG to take out the first wave of soldiers, then on successive waves I would just run in and do chained CQC's and recovery to easily take them out. I love the CQC in this game, but I wish I still had the ability to slit throats, that was really fun in MGS3.
A combination of the RPG on the Hind's tanks and the twin long-barrel shotgun on the soldiers worked for me. I'm loving the sawed off shotgun right now. This comes in very handy if you need to shoot and move out of the area. CQC is also an option, but those armored troops can be a bitch.Quote:

Put the tank and the hind in the same group and you can beat any outer ops up to a C+ easily, just remember that machines don't heal, you have to repair them.

I finished the game this morning. It wasn't as long as I thought it would be, but it was still an amazing experience. Of course you can continue developing Outer Heaven and the MSF after the credits roll. There are even more missions unlocked. One of them made me lol, but I won't spoil it.
This game, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite are tied as my favorite PSP games, hands down.
Good thing for the supply markers. It actually took me a while to figure out the last boss at first. I ended up using the M60 most of the time during that fight. The quest for ZEKE parts is my next goal. With regards to every boss battle in the game, I think Hideo Kojima was trying to send a message about why he changed the format from the previous games. It fits the mood, political climate during those years, and shows the contrast between soldiers and war machines/weapons.
This game is easily one of my top 5 'must own' PSP titles. Content aside, it was a very well done game.
I'm only missing Zeke's head at this point. :mad:

Definitely make use of the Analyzer once you can develop it. I didn't start finding B-Grade troops until right up near the end of the game. The Analyzer will save you time and trouble by telling you the grade of the enemy so you can decide whether or not to Fulton him.
Yeah, I'm already there, man. I choked my ranks with E guys until I started using it. Now I don't bother unless the guy's a C. I've already maxed out my personnel count in every squad, but I still have too many chumps in my force. At least my guys have the courtesy to sometimes die when I send 'em off to fight in parts unknown (usually versus a couple of tanks or something). :lolz:Quote:

Have you unlocked Extra Ops 029? If you have, enter that and backtrack to the area marked on your map as 'Playa del Alba'. This will be the same area you started out the game at - the beach with the little pier, near where you used a grenade to blow open the gate. Head down the pier and you will see a boat with Trenya on it. That'll trigger a cut-scene and you'll have the first Monster Hunting mission unlocked. :DQuote:

I almost ran out of ammo on the second fight with Peace Walker. Holy hell does that bitch take a lot of damage!
So I picked up this game, and as it turns out, since I have CFW installed, it won't run on my PSP. So I had to download a "fixed" copy in order to be able to play a game of which I own a legitimate physical copy. Now I think I have some idea how PC gamers feel about Ubisoft DRM.
Anyway, it's neat so far, but I really wish it had been on PS3.
Deuce: I'll have to check my old PSP to see which version it is, but the most recent custom firmwares allow 6.20 software to play. That's how I played the Peace Walker demo to begin with. IIRC it's 5.50 based, but it reports 6.20 to the game itself when it checks.
I think I've got 5.50 GEN-D4 or some such. I don't tend to follow CFW releases religiously, but if you have a more stable method, I'd love to know.Quote:

The second monster, though... Tigrex. That fucker is impossible. I seriously don't know if I can do it alone. My weapons aren't fully developed (far from it), but even with maxed out gear I don't see what the fuck I can do. It's so fast that it can be all but impossible to dodge, and sometimes it charges you repeatedly as you lie on the ground like a chump. Each hit takes you within a cunt hair's breadth of dying, so your rations are gone in no time. I managed to get it halfway dead and that was it, and I was using rockets. Clearly this was designed for co-op — frustrating stuff, what can I say.
Also, I know what 'Duf was talking about back in the day. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but after you beat the game proper, you can go on a 'date' with Paz. I won't say how it ends, but given the fact she's sixteen and Big Boss is damn near forty, it's creepy. What the fuck were they thinking.

Anyways. I've been playing some more of the extra missions. Man, some of 'em are rough. There's a helicopter fight that really gave me a lot of trouble — dodging its missiles is really hard. I was carrying a lot of gear, though. Maybe next time I'll try it naked with lighter missle launchers, like the LAW. It'll take longer, but at least I might get through it in one piece.
I'd advise staying away from GameFAQs, too, by the way. Aside from the general brain-killing idiocy you'll be subjected to, I accidentally read about what the real last fight is (which is a big surprise :mad:) and I found out someone dies. The last one's not so bad, the the former... I really wish I didn't know that. Goddamnit. It's my fault, but still.
