Time to count frames and jaggies.
Long DL times though. Either it is very popular or the typhoon is badly affecting comms.

Thanks for the heads-up.
Sucks, I forgot my JP account password.
Hopefully this means we'll get it in the States tomorrow
Seems decent, but rather scripted. Witch Time could be a bit too powerful too.
Apart from some screen tearing when moving the camera I didn't notice anything else. Anyone else?
Wow, thanks for the heads up. Gonna go DL this momentarily.
I was a bit underwhelmed by NG Sigma 2, so hopefully this'll scratch that itch.
It's all right. A little flashy, and yeah, the textures do look a little on the muddy side, but decent fun. The control isn't as tight as any DMC installment (maybe a little bit looser than DMC2). I'll be curious to see how the 360 version is better, if internet news is to be believed.
Definitely doesn't inspire me to want to plunk down $60, though.
Just got back from checking this out, and man, I thought it was great! It definitely has a different feel than most action games of its type. The voice acting was cheesy, and the story seems silly, but I really had a good time playing it. And the over-the-top way you kill those bosses is very cool indeed.
If there weren't so many games I'm gonna get coming out this fall, I'd think about getting this at full price, but as it stands, it'll have to wait until the late winter at least. But I think it was pretty solid.
(And I thought the 360 version was supposed to be inferior? Or did I mix the two up?)
Either way, I liked this a lot more than the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 demo, for what it's worth.
I'm certainly not sold.
Tekken 6 comes out on the same day, and that looks like a very polished package.
Ratchet and Clank is a day 1 game for me too, so I may end up passing on this.
Framerate looked solid to me, but I'd prolly go w/ the 360 version anyway
I haven't gone on PSN for a long time because I heard the new firmware bricks white Dual Shocks. Is this still true? If not, I'm downloading this asap.
I can see why Sigma 2 is respected, but the bullshit camera really put a damper on any enjoyment for me. The game just felt archaic and hard to contend with. I don't want to fight the game, I want to fight with the game, if that makes any sense.
EDIT: One more thing... In Sigma 2, whose idea was it to make the enemies the same colour as the main character? That's just a bonehead move, no matter how you slice it.
I'm used to it, I guess. It's better than it was in NG2, if that makes a difference. One thing I hated in Bayonetta was that the combos just felt loose. I'd look at the combo list in the tutorial and they seemed more like suggestions than a set of instructions. Sometimes they'd work and sometimes not. Whereas with the Ninja Gaiden games, I've gotten spoiled on the absolutely instantaneous response times.
Yeah, I thought it felt a bit loose, and I couldn't pull off a single one of the spinning piledriver type moves.
Was alright, should have been prettier and ran smoother. Another game to pick up when cheap and i'm bored.
Hmm... I wouldn't say I thought it was loose, and I didn't have any trouble executing any moves.
Now, that said, I'm just coming off playing The Force Unleashed, so pretty much anything will look good compared to that pile of shit. I'm an idiot for suffering through that entire game... :emb:
Oh, I thought it was still on schedule. Well, I might pick it up when it comes out, then, but I was actually thinking of taking the plunge and buying a Wii early next year, now that the price has finally come down. Stuff like MadWorld and Punch Out look like they're actually worth my time, and I don't wanna miss out.
game is amazing
I played the 360 version at the New York Anime Fest and the biggest thing I heard was, "Is this the new Devil May Cry?" :oh_no:
I thought it was a lot of fun. Hopefully the demo hits live so I can play it again. She's got a lot of cool moves and I can't wait to see how crazy they'll get during the course of the game. Being able to turn her hair/costume into a giant monster and eating bosses is pretty damn awesome.
Yeah, I really liked the goofy hair mechanic.
It got me to thinking, actually. I thought the boob jiggle in Sigma 2 was a bit on the juvenile side, but I thought the naked Bayonetta hair thing is kind of cheeky and cool. Am I nuts, or does anyone agree? (Maybe it's the glasses.)
Is making a JPN PSN account easy?
I'm not really a big demo guy despite my feelings of eagerness to play this game so I can just as easily wait for the real version but if it only takes a few minutes to figure out how to make an account I'll do it (yes I'm feeling that lazy at the moment.)
Okay is being generous if you ask me. The gameplay mechanics and the general design of that game are sub-par at best. Worst of all, every single boss fight in the game is absolutely terrible. Battles that should be legendary and epic are tedious, frustrating, and dull. And though I was playing on a hard difficulty setting, I suffered cheap deaths that weren't really my fault constantly. It just led to a frustrating experience. Oddly enough though, I couldn't stop playing it. It was like a bizarre compulsion to not let the game get the better of me. I still kind of want to beat it on Sith Lord, just to conquer it and make it my bitch (and I'll complain the entire time I'm sure).
The only boss fight that I really hated was Shaak Ti. Those stupid crushing tentacles resulted in a lot of cheap deaths.
It would be nice if LucasArts would license out the Star Wars universe to other, better developers (like they did with KOTOR) instead of trying to do it all in-house.
Well, we're at loggerheads there. I thought the boss battles were unequivocally awful. Fighting Darth Vader is a chore, for example... And fighting Darth Vader should never, ever be a chore. And don't even get me started on that little shit on the junk planet.
Bayonetta is frickin awesome other than the graphics and slow framerate, which don't seem to be a problem on the 360 version. Has anyone made a Japanese XBLA account?
The firmware update didn't brick my JPN Triple Shock, by the way.
I've played through the demo about 3 or 4 times today.
It's the new DMC. I never liked DMC4; it was really a huge disappointment coming from DMC3, so I'm glad to see Bayonetta is turning out well. I wasn't really interested in it until now.
That is a huge combo list too...the timing on some of them are a bit odd, and take some getting used to, but I believe they make the combat more fluid then the more rigid DMC controls. that "P - P" combo thing or anything of the sort takes some effort, but some of them are really spectacular (like the one where she straddles enemies, and pistol whips them to oblivion - it's pretty hilarious). I haven't used the sword much, on that note.
Anyone find out how to do Torture Attacks consistently? It's the one where she brings out 1. A Guillotine or 2. a iron maiden and basically kills the enemy in one shot (they get stored in the meter underneath). I'm not sure how to activate them, probably a stun of some kind.
Another thing I like: evading is easy. After a while, knowing when to press it is second nature, and you get a bonus from it too. I like being able to evade out of combos, especially - that's my big complaint with the NG series (not that I don't like NG2S, which I probably will buy as well)
I played the PS3 version - I think the problem with the framerate is because it's not set to 30fps for cutscenes like the 360 version. No 60fps during combat, though, which has me worried. It's still just a demo though, so it may be fixed by now (considering its JP release date is so soon).
It's totally crazy, and I'm looking forward to messing around with the combo system some more tomorrow.
I can't get the battle theme out of my head.
For those who like the music...

In case anyone didn't know by now, the 360 demo and is also avaliable on the JP XBL Marketplace (went up on the same day as the PS3 demo). The 360 demo looks better, runs at a higher framerate, has more content, and has a much smaller filesize than the PS3 demo.
I think I'll pass on this one.
Definitely a bargain bin purchase for me.
It's nice to be excited about a game, for once...I haven't been in quite a while.
And for those obsessives out there...

People are dissecting the combo engine already.
I don't get that, honestly. Aside from the laziness that was on display as far as level design for Dante goes, what was so bad? The control was tight (tighter than Bayonetta's, I might add), the graphics nice were detailed, the story was decent and the combat engine was deep.
Grrr..... Don't even get me started on that one. Words cannot convey my utter loathing of that game. It was a goddamned slap in the face as far as I'm concerned. Here, rather than have me get into it again, I'll just point you here:

The first page is where I vent. Here's a highlight:
While my fury has cooled some, I still fucking hate that game. Like I said, it's an affront to all that's good and true. It's tedious, boring, repetitive, badly designed, lazy, cheap, and just generally worthless.Quote:
And after trying the spinning blades room again (and failing to get to the top despite repeated attempts), I've decided to ditch this game forever. I truly despise it, and I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could possibly enjoy this pile of shit. Every single current gen 3D beat-em'-up is superior to it. Ninja Gaiden Sigma makes this game look like it was designed by blind, deaf and dumb toddlers with Down's Syndrome. I would prefer getting a Tabasco enema to playing this game for one more second.
I almost never abandon games half-way through out of frustration, because I have a ridiculous and stupid compulsion to finish them, especially nowadays with achievements and whatnot. But that one made me so goddamned angry that I did just that, and I don't regret it for a second. In fact, I'm delighted I was able to ignore my usual habits and kick its useless ass to the curb. I wouldn't play that game again for anything — I'd probably die immediately of an aneurysm if I did.
I loved Devil May Cry 4. The devil arm was awesome. I don't like it as much as 1 or 3, but I still think it's a great game.
I loved DMC 4. Thought it was a great, fun, challenging game with tons of play variety between Dante and Nero. Nero is a bit more one dimensional since he only has one style, but he can still mix up his attacks quite nicely and it's all cool looking and fun to pull off.
I got to really spend time with it and learn its nuances when I was recovering from my first surgery in January 2008. I played that game almost exclusively for four months. It utterly consumed me.
Being able to switch between all four of Dante's fighting styles gave the character more variety than he'd ever had before. Some of the attacks of the characters were insane and stringing together the combos for the stylish finish was an absolute blast.
As for the various platforming challenges, I didn't find them that hard to get through once I started actually paying attention to what was going on and used some skill and timing to navigate them. Even the rotating blades room was easy to get through once I got my bearings, and I was recovering from eye surgery when diving hardcore into that game. It wasn't that hard and it wasn't that ridiculously designed, IMO.
The only criticism I can levy against DMC 4 is that Dante doesn't get any new levels to go through except for his fight against the giant god statue. Going back through the game playing as Dante, while fun, was a reverse retread of the game I'd just played through. However, since I thoroughly enjoyed facing a lot of those same challenges with Dante's expanded moveset, it allowed me to approach the challenges from a different angle.
It was one of my favorite games of 2K8.
'Going back through the game playing as Dante, while fun, was a reverse retread of the game I'd just played through.'.
Yep, with a couple of new, afterthought enemies and a new power up of some kind every few minutes to try and distract the player from realising, 'Fuck! This is only half a game.'.
