Is it out in theaters?
The trailer show I saw it on said 10/19 I think.
WHAT.THE.FUCK.
I have to watch this shit! Is that real?!?! The film quality looks like the movies from that time period and that's an instant win in my book.
Yep, it's real. It's a throwback to the period/blaxploitation films of the 70s, albeit done in a slightly humorous way, obviously. Michael Jai White (Spawn) is the main guy, in case someone doesn't recognize him.
The unrated trailer was way better. Had some Charmane Starr in it.
the redband was great, yah but I like the regular one because of the censorship. When he says "you jiiive motha-*BOOOM*" it just cracked me up. I love movie trailers did that.
Tarrantino can suck a dick, this looks awesome.
I remember seeing a thread on BD here a while back.
Anyways, I've been hearing promos for it on the radio for the last 2 days. Can't wait to see it.
I'm seeing this shit on Friday night. COUNT ME FUCKING IN!!!!!!!! :buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock::buttrock:
there's a funny bonus clip from BD instead of a trailer on the disc of "Blood and Bone", which was slightly above average for a direct-to-dvd feature. Michael Jai White's martial arts makes everything look better anyways.
the best part of any Black Dynamite trailer is Michael Jai shaking the crap outta kids for various reasons.
Like others have said, Tarantino wishes he could do something this awesome.
He tried his hand with exploitation style film (Death Proof) and got panned (even though I personally enjoyed the film).
I can't fuckin' wait for Black Dynamite, this has been a long time coming... Almost a year now since it was first announced!
Fucking.Amazing.

I'm callin up the boys right now and let em know what the fuck is on the agenda! Daaayum.
I went from wearing a stupid grin to laughing my ass off when they said it can be viewed in CINEMAPHONIC QUADROVISION.
I was expecting some lame Samuel L. Jackson and/or Tarantino shit, but this is just awesome.

"My momma said my daddy name Black Dynamite" hahahahhahahahahahahahaaaaa
"Orpheeeens!"

IMDB says October 16th!
I'm so pumped to finally see this!
Looks awesome. My only fear is that its trailer friendly but not as good on the screen.
Unless it gets critically savaged, count me in on opening day, though. It will probably hit one of the indy theaters here.
For all the kid of funny hate at Tarantino (I mean, who cares?), you can probably credit his throwback movies for how a movie like this gets funded and greenlit.
This movie also reminded me of BAADASSSSS!, which was about Melvin Van Peebles' struggle to make the first blaxploitation film, "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song"
It was made by his son Mario, and is worth checking out if you're into this sort of thing. I regretted missing it in theater (it was here for a week, and on the Thursday before it was pulled I almost went to see it, but was talked out of it only to see it was gone the next day  ), but eventually caught it on Netflix.
[EDIT: I just noticed someone has uploaded all of Watermelon Man to Youtube. Made in 1970, its like a lighter version of Black Like Me, with a few early moments that make me think of Chappelle Show. Here's part 1.]
lol I love random Tarantino hate by so called "movie buffs".
Yeah, it did. Personally I like the DUOVISION better, it's an obvious dig but not over-the-top like QUADROVISION.
Can't wait to see this jive mutha in the theaters. My only fear is the tsunami of laughs from the audience may drown out the fun on the screen.
Grrr... I have to wait a bit longer but:
BLACK DYNAMITE OPENS FRIDAY
in NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Seattle
See it, sucka!
Sweet, I'm seeing it tomorrow.
I can't wait till this opens nationwide. I could go watch it in NYC, but I no doubt will be paying ass reaming prices if I were to do so.
I see it going to other major markets like San Francisco, Miami, Minneapolis, Houston, etc, but not much beyond there. The likely reason its opening in six cities is to test how popular it actually is before they decide whether or not to make more prints. Otherwise probably only these prints will make their way across the independent movie scene.
Bah. If that's the case then I guess I'll try to catch an inexpensive matinee. Going to NYC isn't exactly peanuts for me, given the choice between watching a movie in NYC and a movie that's walking distance. Our Garden Theater has had a reputation for carrying offbeat independent movies so who knows, maybe it'll carry the flick.
Any of you cats see it yet?
I don't know where it's expanding to or when.
Ebert had a solid review, I've clipped the top and a quote:
Aha! Exactly what I was hoping for :DQuote:
I've seen a lot of 1970s blaxploitation films, and I'm here to tell you that "Black Dynamite" gets it mostly right, and when it's wrong, it's wrong on purpose and knows just what it's doing.
[. . .]
I am happy to say it brings back an element sadly missing in recent movies, gratuitous nudity.
[. . .]
The movie looks and sounds so much like 1970s blaxploitation that anyone who might find it while cable surfing could be excused for assuming it is one.
i might be seeing it this weekend....you jive muthaFUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
i hope it lives up to the hype.
"Who be interupting my kung fu?!"
I don't want to drive to Atlanta to see a movie :(
Guess I'll be waiting for the dvd.
Ebert: "I am happy to say it brings back an element sadly missing in recent movies, gratuitous nudity. Sexy women would "happen" to be topless in the 1970s movies for no better reason than that everyone agreed, including themselves, that their breasts were a genuine pleasure to regard -- the most beautiful naturally occurring shapes in nature, I believe."
This is more insightful than I am used to Ebert being. Preach it.
Black Dynamite was an amazing movie. I saw it during SIFF this summer, and wanted to see it again but had trouble finding a theater playing it last weekend.
When I saw it at SIFF, the director and lead actor came on stage to give a Q&A after the movie, pretty amazing.
well Ebert did co-write Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls:

just got back from seeing the movie, and HOLY SHIT DID IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE!
it was one of the most absolutely ridiculous(-ly awsome) and hilarious movies i've ever seen.
all you need to know about this movie is this: MICHAEL JAI WHITE IS AWSOME.
now go see Black Dynamite! preferably with friends!
Good interview with key people in this Onion A/V Club interview:

I saw it last Friday. It was simply awesome. Don't want to spoil anything but I'll just say it's just as bad and awesome as real blaxploitation films from the 70's. Cheesy acting, re-used special effects and a plot with so many holes in it that it looks like swiss cheese.
One word of advice though, definitely see this with a group of friends. I went by myself and there was about 3 other people in the audience.
