With all the talk about Super Street Fighter IV lately, I've heard very little about Tekken 6. Anyone gonna pick it up?
Me and my crew are all over this shit like white on rice. Just so you know this site isn't tekken friendly in the least bit. I'd say literally a handful of people here play the game. The rest hate the series.
I can't lie, after Tekken 4 I gave up on the series cuz of frustration with the new programmers. Tekken 6 looked like it was gonna be a total failure until they released the Bloodline Rebellion update and fixed the bullshit. Now I'm once again hyped about playin Tekken. I've been training with Feng Wei DILIGENTLY in anticipation so I can be up to par when this mofo gets released.
tekken 5 was painfully bad in every way. except maybe gameplay---im not a fighter, so i dont know.
but tekken 6 looks unbelievable. i wonder if the music is better than 5s? 4s was bonus.
It's a neo geo site so people here are gonna be more biased towards 2d fighters. Back in the day on this site Tekken did catch a lot of unneeded flack vs the other 3d fighters but I'll just attribute that to ignorance of 3d fighters by the general populace here.
I'm a huge fan myself(not as huge as I was during the Tekken Tag period though). In 2001-2002 I became a very serious player. Serious to the point of where it was my life. My life was totally dedicated to Tekken tournaments. My brother and I would train Mishimas for hours, to the point were we could wavedash and lightdash and hit EWGF's as almost fast and accurate as Korean players. My brother had a particularly disgusting Jin and Heihachi. He ended up getting too good and I couldn't fuck with him after a while.
When 4 came out is when I hit my peak. I played the 2nd best Ling Xiaoyu player in the world at a tournament and he told me I had one of the best Lee Chaolan's in America. After that i joined the Military and moved to Europe and slowly became a sorry piece of trash at Tekken and I'm slowly comin back after moving to back to America 6 years later.
I hated Tekken 4 because it had a totally different programming team than Tekken Tag and I strongly dislike Tekken 5 and DR because of the same programming team and the juggle damage.
IMO 6's music is better than 5's. 5 probably had the weakest soundtrack of all the games. Not one song on that game used to get me hyped like the other games did. I mean I liked some songs on 5 don't get me wrong but they weren't hype songs at all.
This song from tekken 6 BR has me covered in goosebumps. I can't wait to hear it on a stereo system:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e94uZsKoS4w
This song ain't half bad either:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT9EuNLIqNY
There are some stages with HORRIBLE music thought like that fuckin Sheep stage with the Yodeling(what the fuck were they thinking??)
There are a couple of other stages with music that ain't half bad. I think it'll be hard to live up to that Tekken 2 soundtrack but Tekken 6 is a step up from 5 in the sound department IMO.
I still play Tekken DR on my PSP quite a bit. Definitely looking forward to Tekken 6 as well. Tekken was the first game I got for my PSX and I've been down with the series ever since. I'm more of a Virtua Fighter guy, but I will always play some Tekken as well. I think it's kind of unfair when people lump it in with Dead or Alive among 3D fighters.
*raises hand* Oooh ooh, i'm excited for Tekken 6. I first played it last year in Houston and it was noice! Had a chance to play Bloodline Rebellion this year and it looks even better! It would be NOICE if any arcades near Dallas had T6 so I can get some practice in with Asuka, Elisa, and Lars.
It's a mixed crowd down here. This area is actually quite great for the whole fighting game scene, but like Spinmaster says, only a handful of them are Tekken fans. As long as Bandai-Namco (god... bad company merger :oh_no: ) ports the game over correctly, it should be fine. Though I do have to say Asuka is completely broken in the arcade variation.
When Tekken 5 came out, there was this big hullabaloo at both local arcades.
Heck, I got to see the Tekken 5 machine arrive in crate at the Dalton Mall.
But, I've not see hide nor hair of Tekken 6. There doesn't seem to have been a strong a push to raise awareness.
At the last fortnight back or so I saw Tekken 6 on the pre-order list for PSP.
After seeing that SoulCalibur was just a long list of practice modes, I'm not so eager to just jump at picking up the new Tekken; if it gets a PSP version or not.
It's hard to care about a game I know nothing about.
I can assume most of the regular cast is returning. Heihachi and the Kazamas (like Erica Kane from All My Children), A Kangaroo, Mokujin...
Tiger had better be back.
That'll be the character to pique my interest enough to try out Tekken 6.
Count me in as one of those looking forward to it, at least to some degree.
Tekken is not my favorite fighter so I'm not very good at it (no surprise, I prefer 2D fighters), but I still buy the games and play them because I think they're fun.
I'll probably buy it on day one. I'll have probably played NG Smegma 2 to death by then and will need something new tide me over.
The only arcade remotely close to Dallas that I know of is Gameworks at Grapevine Mills mall, but I'd hardly call that an arcade. It is nothing more now than a shell of it's former self. They haven't put in a new arcade machine in years.
I'm down for a local get together or playing some matches online once it comes out though.
The Gameworks in Grapevine sucks big fat floppy donkey balls. I mean they have some fighters in there but most of them are broken. I've made numerous complaints about the MvC2 up there and they say they'll "get right on it" but it's always shit. A worker over the summer said they're getting some new games but I don't believe it for a moment. If they surprise the shit out of me and get Tekken 6 and some other GOOD games, i'll be there at least once a week practicing with Asuka!
I'm looking forward to it! I really like fighting games, plus I wanna see what the heck is up with Jin. I think they said they were gonna fix something about the "keeping your opponent in the air until they die" thing, is that true?
I will pick it up on PS3 on the release date. I have watched a lot of youtube vids on the game, but like the other Dallas dwellers here I have had zero options of playing it for myself. I am a bit weary of the rage and bounce systems however. I feel the last thing Tekken needed was a way to add extra damage to the juggles. Rage actually reminds me a bit of the Ultra gauge in SF4. Get the shit kicked out of you in a round almost to the point of death and manage to land a confirmed juggle to pull out a win so I am sort of hoping those features are able to be toggled on/off in an options menu like block damage has always been. But I will be there on the 27th/28th with Bryan, King, Paul and Lars crossing my fingers so hard they nearly snap praying the online is stable.
Yes, I'll be picking it up on release with the arcade stick. I know it runs on AA batteries but it's wireless damn it. Plus from the reviews it's a damn good stick.
The PS3 port is actually Tekken 6: BR so it should be good. Every character in the game has fairly even damage potential for juggles, so the game itself is quite polished.
Every chacter also punches at the same speed. (For those in the know, this is probably the best thing Namco could have done in terms of balance). Every Tekken prior to this had 8 framers as top tier characters with 9 framers a close 2nd.
After kind of losing interest in the series since 4 (I still hate that game and nothing anyone says will change my mind), just dabbling in 5 and 5: DR, I'll definitely pick this up for 360. I did put some time into Dark Resurrection on the PS3 online, and I'll be interested in going online with 6 on Live. Tekken, to me, is better suited to online play, than, say, VF, by far, since it plays slower. Had a better time playing that online, by far, than VF 5.
So yeah, sure, I'm looking forward to it even though I don't necessarily laud the series' qualifications or anything.
I'd mebbe give it a shot pending a demo playthrough.
I used to play a lot of Tekken on the PS1 but my tastes have changed drastically since then.
The game looks great though, far better than those ancient teaser trailers make it look.
Well as far as arcade machines go I think there are only 2 or 3 arcade machines that exist in America because of the death of Arcades.
About Tiger, You won't specifically see Tiger as a separate character because he's just Eddy with an afro and 70's clothes. The big thing now in 3d fighters is customization. You can make Eddy look like Tiger buy earing gold and buying everything to make him look exactly like Tiger.
Every match you watch a match on youtube each character looks different from the next video.
both those songs were good, spin. but have they abandoned dnb?
I don't really remember them having much DnB. But it seems like the style of music changes each game. Tekken 1 and 2 had world music, Tekken 3 had a lot of rock music, Tekken Tag had Electro and Techno music. Tekken 4 up to 6 is just a mishmash of everything.
LOL I could talk all day about that link you posted too. At first we were like "WTF kind of song is this" then it slowly grew on us.
But do you remember this track right here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hjDPj465RE
That lovely Samba influenced music from the Brazilian beach stage! This song NEVER GETS OLD!
i was just listening to the beach. t4 had my favorite OST since t2.
i played it during comic con , also played it in the tournaments (got handled) I liked it.graphics were awesome but ill be damned if i can follow any of the story.
i going to have to pick this up as i dont own any fighters for current gen.
Tekken 2 will always have the best soundtrack. Like EVERY song on there is good and some are just TOO GOOD like Yoshimitsu's stage and Kazuya's stage and don't even get me started on the end credits music. I could listen to that all day.
Other than Tekken 2 my favorite soundtrack is Tekken Tag. Tekken 4 is my 3rd favorite. A lot of people I know hate the Tekken Tag soundtrack and a lot of people I know love it to death so I guess it's hit or miss. Personally, I love it. IMO one of the best fighting game tracks of all time is Ogre/True Ogre's stage music from Tekken Tag. Even people who hate tekken to death tell me "I hate that game but Ogre's music is dope". It just has this atmosphere about it. It really puts fighting the ogres into perspective. Both versions of it sound great too.
Arcade version:

PS2 Version:

To me Tekken's soundtracks have always been atmospheric. They give you the feeing of the stage and who you're fighting.
I played T6 at 8 on the Break and I liked it. One thing that sucked it was a buck a credit and the people that were playing it had cards and supped up characters and I was only really into it with 2 and 3. How some of those guys can play it on a PS2 pad is beyond me.
The game felt a lot like 3, and that's a good thing. I like how all of the characters are unlocked at the get go so you can go through all of them to see which one you like. Me, I just stick to Bryan. I almost won a game against one of the guys at 8 on the Break.
and Spin, there's more then 3 arcades with the game, I know a bunch in Cali have it and I think China Town Fair also has it. Not sure about Texas though. I'll have to check ArcadeFly and see.
Really? I thought that Houston, SoCal and somewhere in the Midwest had machines. Oh well maybe I'm out of the loop. When tekken 6 first came out though they had only like 2 or 3. That pissed a lot of people off, they must have beefed up the distribution when BR came out.
looking forward to buying this, playing it for 2 hours, realizing it's a piece of shit, and then putting it on the shelf and never playing it again
fucking AWESOME :buttrock:
There cant be a Tekken thread without me in it. Yah, Spin may have had one of the best Lees in america at the time....but he just wanted to be ME lol. I was big in the nationwide tournament scene around that time. The mere mention of my crew coming to a tournament was enough to settle the placing haha. Just joking. But on the real me and the rest of the NC crew were no slouches....we even made it to nationals to play. I tried to stick with it through 5 but 5.0 Steve and Nina ruined it for me. Then the updates came, and by the time DR hit I had started "real life".
Needless to say I am ALL OVER 6 when it comes out. I actually owned the 6.0 arcade machine for awhile. I am definitely up for teaching anybody new to the series how to play if they would like. My SN is thatdemoguy but the name you all need to remember is SilentSymphony :lolz:
Also here is a little preview of the OST for those who want to get a feel for the music in this game. Not my favorite OST from the series, but it has some amazing tracks. Most notably Gargoyle's Perch and Fallen Capitol.
EDIT: Spin hit it on the money as far as good Tekken tracks. BOTH versions of the TTT Ogre music were awesome. I personally prefer the arcade one though. My fav Tekken OST go in this order. T3, TTT, T4 (ARENA STAGE FTW), T2, T5.
O.
Oh Snap, my boy O. You and I still haven't played but I'm sure we can change that now that I've moved to America and the lag won't be as horrible as when I lived in Germany.
By the way have you guys seen the new Tekken 6 commercial "Motivation". It moved me. I'm ready for Tekken more than ever
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHSbduDI4m4
by the way thanks for that link to the soundtrack. After listening to the whole thing I felt like I had gone through a journey LOL and for once I liked the end credits music again. The last couple of Tekkens had weak end credits songs. There are a couple of poo poo songs on this soundtrack namely Hidden Retreat. "Noh Theater" and "Urban Warzone" are boring and generic, "City after dark" and "Cemetary" are just cheesy rock songs.
I'm not really any good at any of them (or most 3D fighters in general), but I am looking forward to T6. Didn't think much much of T5/DR's soundtrack for the most part, but I'd say two tracks in particular stood out in respect to the rest of the series.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uz_R83rJm4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rZXTSdPor8
Nope we havent had a chance to play yet. But I will be on BOTH networks when T6 drops so I wont be hard to find. And I personally hate a Feng Wei, so the rivalry is set.
EDIT: That new trailer has got me ready to play it like a champion NOW!!!!
O.
So you hate Feng Wei? Then who is your guy, please don't tell me it's Raven either.
Those are definitely some of the best tracks.
My faves from that soundtrack are
Formless like Water:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiqeZfO3u3w
Estrada Da Estrela: (I love samba music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1UgoridM24
Shattered Dreams:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRvJpboXPcY
It's definitely on my list if I come around to purchasing a 360 or PS3, but since we're talking about Tekken music at the moment:

Carry on.
Hey Spin. Im still rocking that Lee, but ive also taking a liking to quite a few secondaries. Dragunov, Anna, and Eddy.
O.
2heed, that is a dope track. One of my fav's, shit that whole soundtrack is basically my fav LOL.
@O. Good shit. I dropped Kazuya in favor of Feng but I still rock Lee, he's still my best character as well. My secondary characters are Baek, Steve, Armor King, Hwoarang, Paul and I'm learning Dragunov(that guy is fuckin cool).
I thought the coolest new grappler was Goh from VF, but Dragunov came along and they went neck and neck. I'm sure in the future they'll end up being my mains.
Check these out in HD. Damn I'm ready!

I just came from a friend's house for a night of gaming. I dished out my fair share of ass whoopins with Lee and Feng. I'd say I'm ready for 6. I'm still not at the level I wanna be but when 6 comes out I'll get where I need to be.
Ooh ooh, I want in on the Tekken music too!
Amnisia from T5: DR
Stalking Wolves from T5:DR
Garden of the Tiger from T5: DR
Snow Castle from T5:DR
Acid Rain stage from T5:DR
Eddy Gordo's theme from T3.
Xiaoyu's theme from Tekken Tag
Music from this stage in Tekken 6 (fighting on a roof of some house)
The dock stage from Tekken 6
Casino Stage from Tekken 6
You'll have to forgive me for I am a music aficionado and I really love the music in the Tekken series!

Lee is lookin real strong. I like that.
I got to play this a week or so ago. I enjoyed what i played. I'll probably grab this on 360.

The stuff you get in the limited edition package. I'd rather not have that Lars poster. I think he looks completely ridiculous. Who the fuck has hair like that? Has Falcoon been helping Namco design characters or what?
I rather enjoyed the music in T4-TDR personally.
I enjoy the series but can't play it for crap (I only play on easy and even then completing the games on that setting without continues is a challenge for me.).
While not omfg excited, I'll grab a copy of T6 when it hits (Should have a PS3 by then now that the price's dropped some.).
More interested in this then SF4 (Any version.).
He does fight like a badass and his 2nd player costume ain't too bad but come on Maury, that hair? I mean really that hair is NOT COOL at all. Totally overdone anime hair fit for a Final Fantasy character. Yes I know the Mishima's hair all sticks up because of the electricity in their bodies but he just looks too goofy.
Whats up with this limited edition? The only one I know of is the version that comes with the fightstick, which I dont want. Now I will buy this one if I can be pointed in the direction of it.
BTW: Lee doesnt just LOOK strong, he is quite strong. Ive played T6 and I can say this some of the tools that he needed, he got. Yes they took away the best 8frame punish in the game by making 10frame the standard, but he gained tools like a sidestep MID launcher, a 1,2, low on top of his 1,2, mid, multiple juggle enders, plenty of bound moves, and retaining some of the best wall carry in the game.
O.
I really don't know much about that limited edition actually. I saw it and posted it.
As far as Lee goes, thank you for telling me this. You made my day. Now I know I'll be "that dude" again when I play Lee. Ever since tekken 5 hit the market I've been the punchin dummy. I started to get decent at it recently which is worthless. I really have a feeling that I'm gonna be a bastard just like the Tekken 4 days.
I got my pre-order for the X360 version paid off and ready to go, but I was hoping that I'd get the Mad Catz MVC2 stick by then. The stick was delayed into mid-November, so that's not gonna happen.
At least Forza Motorsport 3 comes out on the same day... :buttrock:
It seems there's an explanation for the hair in this article. Turns out he's the bastard child of Heihachi! Those Mishima's have crazy hair indeed. :mr_t:
