Isn't this a recurring theme with Child Stars?

When does the process of beatification start? It's been almost a week!
They just announced:
Michael Jackson's public memorial will be Tuesday morning (July 7) at the Staples Center. They were able to convince the Ringling Brothers Circus (seriously) to start loading their animals later in the evening.
This is probably surprisingly affordable to put on because AEG was the company putting on the O2 in London, and it owns the Staples Center and new Nokia Theater across the street (in fact they were using the Staples Center as a practice facility before he died). They're going to use the existing massive public screens (and maybe more) to show the service to those who can't get into the arena. This could be enormously popular, especially if it draws from the existing office workers (750k) who work in the immediate area. AEG will also have access to the massive (and adjacent) LA Convention Center.
Damn, I was in SoCal this past week --wish I was still there. I enjoy big public spectacles like sports celebrations and other things. This one promises to be raucous.
I'll be at the dentist Tuesday morning.
I'd honestly rather be there than watching this spectacle on tv.
EDIT: Ringling Brothers had to let them do this because they realized for one day they would no longer be the greatest show on Earth.
They know where the true circus will be July 7.
Lagduf, its that sort of thinking which allows the terrorists to win. :shame:
Nah, the whole world loves '80s pop music.
Oh. My. God... that would've been the topper --if somehow Pee Wee Herman had been involved in some sort of mysterious murder-suicide pact.
Toss in Boy George or Joaquin Phoenix and some of those tabloids would've spontaneously combusted.
Maybe its not too late --has anyone seen Paul Reubens???
If they make a biopic of Jackson, I would chose either Spike Lee or John Waters as the writer/director. Actually, I would prefer them to concurrently make the two movies and then release them together.
Oh god, I forgot all about the biopic thing. Good god... We run the risk of having a truly terrible movie foisted upon us next year.
Though John Waters.... That could be pretty good. Let's hope someone as good as him gets to make it. Because make no mistake — that shit's in preproduction as we speak, I have no doubt.
The biopic was kind of an elephant in the room, wasn't it? Dying right before a comeback tour? How made-for-TV is that?
Here's my shortlist of who I think would make an interesting Michael Jackson movie as writer/director (obviously, I highly doubt any would get a chance to --this is more for fun and funny "what if" to try and imagine):
John Waters
Spike Lee
Oliver Stone
Hayao Miyazaki
David Lynch
Werner Herzog
Terry Gilliam
Don't forget Cronenberg.
Burton should just re-release Charlie and the Chocolate factory, rename it The Michael Jackson Story.
The Biopic needs to have a conspiracy slant to it. Jackson was murdered.
i vote McG or Michael Bay to direct his biopic.:D
Who inherits all his debt?
Ah, this is a bit of a mischaracterization...
That person is going to be very luck, as it will be the person who gets to pay it all off, with money to spare once, they sell MJ's $500m+ share of Apple Corps plus all the royalties his estate is still getting (notwithstanding the incredible surge of purchases in the past week --MJ songs have been nine of the ten top iTunes downloads).
Whoever takes over control, assuming their much wiser than Michael was in his final decade, would simply use those assets to pay off debt and still have a very large sum of money left --including the continual royalties.
Jackson's money problems were from his foolish lifestyle: living like he was still raking in tons of money when his assets weren't growing and taking loans, using his asset as collateral, to cover the difference. If MJ had simply cut back to being a regular multi-millionaire, he would've been okay. But he was too foolish to accept that, and he had plenty of leeches around him telling him he would be okay.
It makes me think of Mike Tyson: I got to hear James Toback (director of Tyson) talk about Iron Mike a few months ago after they screened his documentary at the local film fest, and he said Tyson thinks he's financially in trouble, but he's basing it on how ridiculously rich he was at one time --now he doesn't think having $20m is a lot of money... LOL.
I'm assuming, as their minors, someone will be assigned to manage the estate --also some of the money might be given to other members of the family (depending on the will).
Frankly, if I ever had any control over the estate planning of a very rich person with more than a handful of legatees, I would consider creating a trust for the bulk of the estate: that way there would a way to better manage the needs of the various beneficiaries and possibly maintain (or even grow) the total assets.
I know (and briefly worked for) a man who's father was a wealthy Kuwaiti billionaire --the problem was the man had three wives and 27 children... the wealth would've diluted quickly had it been evenly divided so they opted to create a family trust which takes care of all members of the family --though there were some in-fighting problems with various factions (children of one wife vs.another, etc) when it came to controlling the trust. Law is fun. Join us.
Somehow I doubt Jackson had all these legal issues figured out in case of an untimely death.
Seems like its not yet been solved..

I'll never turn to the Dark Side!
I feel this thread is crawling with douchness...
We needs some unreliable old women to claim that they saw Michael in a dream before they were miraculously healed.
Thanks for the infos Bobby.
I still lean towards a verdict of not a pedophile
Dude was definitely odd, but you don't sell a hundred million albums by being normal
His last words were "Forgive them, Father, they know not what they do." Of course I wasn't there, but I can feel it. I saw it in my dreams, only I was awake and creating them with my mind --but it must've been divine inspiration. [laugh, but the scary thing is this is how all our major religions got started]
Back to the facts:
524,330 registered for the 11,000 Staples Center tickets and 7000 Nokia Theater simulcast.
Its going to be harder to get into than Harvard or Stanford: In 2009, Harvard had 29,112 applicants for about 1,500 spots, and 30,428 students applied for about 1,700 spots at Stanford.
LA is actively dissuading people without tickets to avoid the area, as they've opted to cordon off the vicinity of the Staples Center to only ticketed visitors. There's a feeling that tens, if not hundreds of thousands will show up anyway.
Meanwhile, AEG (the concert promoter) may end up in the black in this whole venture because someone had the brilliant foresight to tape the rehearsals in HD.

Despite Loss of Star, Jackson Concert Promoter Expects Profit
By Ben Sisario AND Ana Facio Contreras
In the days after Michael Jackson’s death, many music industry analysts speculated that AEG Live, the promoter of Mr. Jackson’s planned concert engagement in London, stood to lose a fortune: It had invested $25 million to $30 million in the shows and would be responsible for up to $85 million in ticket refunds, and the company said that some of its insurance coverage would depend on the cause of Mr. Jackson’s death.
But Randy Phillips, the chief executive of AEG Live, said that because of its rights to film and audio of the concert rehearsals — and its expectation that many people would hold on to their tickets as souvenirs, forgoing a refund — the company might actually make a significant profit.
“For the record, this great company I work for is not bankrupt,” he said, at a press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. “I’m heartbroken but the company’s fine.”
The company had a $17 million insurance policy that covered an accidental death, which it might be able to claim, Mr. Phillips said. And he expected only 40 to 50 percent of fans to redeem their tickets for a refund, substantially reducing the company’s potential losses. AEG Live also owns the rights to audio and high-definition video that was created at the rehearsals, which Mr. Phillips said could earn millions.
“We have over 100 hours of documentary footage done in HD of every single meeting, audition, rehearsal,” he said. “This is really the last great work of a 20th-century genius.”
A Ukrainian town is considering renaming itself after him.
The Iowa State Fair will feature a live-size butter statue of him (in addition to the traditional cow), doing the moonwalk, of course.
His estate grows richer with each passing day: now that his mad spending days are over, and his record sales remain at incredible heights.
Why do so many people want to attend the funeral? They know he's not going to perform, right?
Michael Jackson really did a lot to make the world a better place, STK.
That's why.
Duh.
:emb:
There was this random dude at a gas station I was at the other day yelling at people to 'remember Michael.' He was holding a big poster of Jackson
I'm in a hostel in Japan right now and they play MJ songs in the lobby pretty much around the clock.
You should pretend you got to hang out at Neverland as a kid, maybe it'll help you score with the locals girls.
"Oh yeah, it was awesome. Rides, video games, movies, junk food, Bubbles... Sure, he was a little touchy, but it wasn't a big deal and it was all in good fun. If you want I can show how he'd touch you..."

MJ's arcade, pretty cool stuff.
MJ had a Neo 29 Candy Cab ? :buttrock:
Bring on the memorial!
Tuesday, July 7, 2009, 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time
Broadcasting on all major stations
The line-up:
Ron Boyd (family friend); Kobe Bryant; Mariah Carey; Andrae Crouch Choir; Berry Gordy; Jennifer Hudson; Shaheen Jafargholi (finalist on "Britain’s Got Talent"); Magic Johnson; Martin Luther King III; Bernice A. King; John Mayer; Lionel Richie; Smokey Robinson; the Rev. Al Sharpton; Brooke Shields; Pastor Lucious Smith (family friend); Usher; and Stevie Wonder.
Elizabeth Taylor opted out (a bit of a shame, but its not like she needs to keep herself in the public eye anymore).
The ticket distribution was almost shockingly orderly --a drive-through affair at Dodger Stadium. Some predict it was a dry run of the police state they're going to be setting up around the Staples Center tomorrow.
The Purple Ticket and the Golden wristband.
Given their GMT timeline, Wikipedia has just placed Thriller as its featured article of the day.
Haha, one last hurrah.
In my head, I'm reading the list as if it's the starting lineup w/the Chicago Bulls theme playing despite taking place in LA. :lolz:
I also thought about Prince when you mentioned the tickets and wristband will be in purple and gold, but then I also thought about The Lakers, then about royalty.
