This “Blu Ray FTW!!!” and “HDDVD FTW!!!” shit is lame, knock it the fuck off. You went out, bought a player and took it home. You didn’t join a team, you didn’t buy into something greater than you, there’s nothing to cheer for.

I just got an HDDVD player and so far it is cool. But I don't really give a shit if a movie is on HD or Blu Ray. The only reason why I got an HDDVD player was the price.
I think it sucks that when I look over to the blu-ray section there are way more titles. But there is also alot more shit movies for it that I don't want. So guess it evens itself out.
I probably will eventually get a ps3 anyways. So I don't really care what movie is on what platform.
This whole format war is pretty useless anyways. The multi-format players are going to come down in price within the next couple years. And that is going to cancel everything out. It will be the whole DVD-R DVD+R bullshit all over again.
At $300-$600 a player and $30-$45 per title, they both suck.

For me it's not about which format is "the best" or "winning" It's all about the movies they offer. I'd much rather watch The Thing, Hot Fuzz, The Matrix, The Bourne series, Serenity, Dune and Fearless over just about anything BR has to offer ATM.
I route for HDDVD but if BR could provide me with the better titles I'd be all for it.
In fact yesterday I went through a list of BR titles and could only come up with about 12 that I would buy compared to the 30+ HDDVD exclusives I own now.
I also agree that if Universal isn't willing to go neutral or HDDVD doesn't fail as a whole within the next 2 years a dual format player will be an HD enthusiasts best option.

What made DVD the default way to watch a movie? Why not just get an AVI file with a resolution of 160*120? You can still see what's going on and follow the story.

It's an audio-visual experience where storytelling is just one of many elements, and HD DVD/Blu-ray certainly enhances that experience if you've get a halfway decent TV and audio system. The latter does not need to be expensive at all for one to be able to hear the difference from regular DD to PCM, for example.

Of course this can in fact be subject to shit transfers on behalf of the studios where someone falls asleep during the transfer. Much of the detail and depth to be seen in a movie is lost when viewed on DVD. While it might be fine to the average person, it isn't to me. 10 Min of any sports game in HD will change and fan’s mind. 2 min of the majority of DVD’s in true surround sound will change any movie fan’s mind…
