Wasn't sure about it, but since it's online and if enough people here will be picking it up I was going to seriously consider it.
Never played the original, but this looks like fun.
Anyway, comes out on the 30th in the US if you weren't already aware.

Wow, I didn't know this was out yet! I should at least rent it this week and check it out. On my GC the two most played games were Mario Strikers and Warioware, I know that if this game is half as good as I hope it is, it should still rock.

I'm definitely picking this up (hopefully tonight). Strikers for the cube was great, and from what people have told me from other parts of the world this one is even better.
Picked this up before work.
Probably start playing at the end of the week as I want to finish up MGS first.

Game looks like fun though, I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Awesome game, controls well and actually looks pretty decent graphically (especially compared to what else is available on the Wii right now).

Well, I picked up my copy but I probably won't play it until the weekend. Once I get the hang of the controls, I am sure that I will go online with it.
I really want to finish up Hot Shots Tennis prior to starting this. (That and I am still playing Hot Shots Golf 5 everyday).
This game is nuts.

Fun game, I think I can easily see myself getting into the online stuff.
Actually fairly deep too.
Didn't realize there was so much to do in ways of character types, items and general football/soccer-type gameplay.
Very fun, I'm liking it so far. Better than the original, definitely, reviews are right about that.
Motion controls work nicely without being intrusive, the new megastrike mechanic is far better than the old one (especially since the blocking is active now and works fairly), and the gameplay itself just seems tighter.
This game is a blast.
Quite fun once you get the controls/mechanics down.

Yeah, this game kicks ass. I just bought it last night and played my roommate and a couple people online. Better controls, gameplay, graphics, and more characters, what can I say, if you like the original, you'll love this game.
I need to practice up. Seems that some of the people online are pretty good.

I played a couple online matches earlier and they were quite nice.
No lag at all even on a connection that was one star away from being perfect.
Matches get pretty intense too.
I'm starting to get the hang of it too so I should be a decent match.

My wife and I went online were disconnected at the start of the first match and received a loss.:crying: I don't have a problem with that as it would prevent people from quitting but since there was no score, it sucked.
We then tried again and had a lag free match and won both games. So, we are now 2-1.:D
Online system seems pretty solid and will add some play to a pretty good game. I was surprised they took out the multi-player tournament from the Gamecube version. I use to play tournaments with local friends all of the time.

So let's talk gameplay.
I'm not sure how much I like this game. Can anyone tell me a reliable way to get the ball popped into the air during passing? Had a few people do this to me, lots of passes until its in the air, then lob to a guy in the corner for a hard header/bicycle kick.
Hammer Bro seems way overpowered, or at least seems that way right now.
You hold down Z and then press A (to lob pass) or B (to lob shoot.)
The Hammer Bros. is much talked about over at places where games like this are talked about (I've browsed GameFAQs and see their names pop-up all the time.)
There's ways to counter them, you just need to give that forum over there a quick browse and I'm sure you'll find it.
I haven't been playing much thanks to some connections issues.
My PC at home is the central one that hooks up two others around the house wirelessly and the time I get to play is at the same time when everyone else is home doing internet stuff too.
It puts the game into slow-mo for me and I end up having to drop (which sucks because it nets me a loss--I'll probably be linking my games to a new Mii shortly.)
I'll try to sneak some games in at night or on the weekends, but lately I've been too MGS crazed to bother with many other games.
Anyway though, I do have a set team that I like.

I'd like to get better with Toad since I played against a person the other day who was making a fool out of me with his (and Diddy's ) Fake; the one where the character leaps in the air a short distance.
I like this game but I think I may prefer the Gamecube version. I really miss the tournament mode. I also prefered using the Wavebird for a game like this, I really wish it would support the classic controller. Still a great game though.
I moved my Wii upstairs to play it on the better TV. (no online there) So, the next time I go online, I will add people that have posted their numbers.

Bones can teleport right past the goalie, just have the ball a little charged. He teleports further and his virtually in the net. Its retarded.
And this is one that I know about. Toad if jumping at the goalie line will hop over the goalie as he lunges forward missing him completely and you just run the ball in the net.
There is also a trick that you can do with waluigi but you have to use his powerup that comes once in a while. Cross mid field and create a line boxing yourself into the wall. Then you got all the time in the world to set up a 6 megashot. That is if they dont have bombs that they can drop on you using the C button.
I have yet to play this game again after the first night. I think it is a quality game but I am just not blown away by it. I thought the online was pretty good but I can't myself playing that for very long.
I know that a lot of the members here don't play locally with friends/family but I am still pissed that they took the tournament mode out that was in the first game. I use to set up big tournaments and that was a lot more fun than what I experienced online.
I really hope they leave the tournament (64 player bracket) mode that was in Super Smash Bros. on the Gamecube.
While most of the things WizKid mention are annoying, they're also stoppable (same for the hammer bros that I complained about earlier) and I believe sort of necessary because 0-0 games that end with a lucky shot in sudden death isn't what this game is about.
It's supposed to be a fast paced, arcade style, semi-high scoring at least for a soccer game.
Although it reminds me a lot of Sega Soccer Slam, which was also a good game that didn't hold up for long.
Sure they are stopable. By pounding every guy that comes into your end. But at the same time. You should be able to earn your points. Not through some trick that everybody can use.Quote:

It's no different in terms of a fighter that there's bound to be some characters that are better to use than others.
And it's not like every person you'll play will be going for the cheap and easy win.

Yeah I agree with you. I have played quite a few players as well that didnt just go for the easy score. However they tend too when they are down a goal just to even things up. Ether that or many players simply dont know about the tricks yet. It is spreading though.
On a side note. Has anybody beaten the fire cup on the extreme mode? I cant beat it for the life of me. The computer just kicks your ass at every opportunity.
