I'm very impressed. Game looks like a blast to play, although the 'floor camo' and even the statue camo are a bit of a reality stretch to me. Hiding three feet in front of someone it wouldn't matter if you were the same pattern as the floor they would probably notice a human sized lump there. Anyway though, this would seriously make me consider a 3-400 dollar PS3 to play this.
Great environment, something that MGS3 and to some extent MGS2 never got me interested in.
Its pretty, but a free camera has no place in MGS.
It ruined 3S and Portable Ops.

Cheating the camera into giving up enemy locations betrays the whole point of the Tactical Espionage element of the game.
Also, thats what the radar and various tools in MGS3 were for. The free camera made every single tool in the game other than your handgun / knife combo moot.
The thing is, this isn't a FPS. While the analogy makes sense, it still doesn't take away from any of the gameplay elements in MGS3. It's apples and oranges. See, the thing was, you had no 24/7 radar as in MGS and MGS2. That made it easier to see enemies in advance and make a plan accordingly.Quote:

Good thing we are getting 2007 gameplay. Previous metal gears played ok but the camera really killed Snake Eater (And the camera fix,. while not perfect, killed Subsistence making the game damn too easy). All we got was MSX MGS2 on pretty graphics.

I loved how if you smell bad enough enemies will find you. So many little details that just squash and preceding game.
I think this is the FIRST time in NG.com history where the unveiling of gameplay wasn't shot down by fickle bitches.
Now that's what I'm talkin' about. I love all the additions they are making to the series.
As for the camera talk going on, I have no problem with it in Portable Ops. The game was designed around that type of camera system and it feels pretty natural. I had no problem with it in MGO. But, with MGS3 when they added it in Subsistence, I didn't really like it. I didn't care if I could see enemies easier. It just didn't feel like it belonged. The game was designed around the classic camera view, not the new camera system. MGS4 is being designed with it in mind, so it shouldn't have the same problem. With MGS3, I'll personally stick with the original camera most of the time, but to each their own.
Now, that's more like it. I knew i got a PS3 for something. Just don't convolute or put too much into this one like MGS2(which was still awesome).

It just looks like a pretty version of MGS2 with a free camera, but with the bullet effects/environments of Black. And, to be frank, I don't think it even looks as good as other games coming up a lot sooner (hello UT3!). It just kills me that all that time and effort put into making the environment as immersive as possible are scuttled as soon as you walk over an AK and it disappears into your inventory, or when you nuke some enemies off of a balcony and they fall like a rag doll in a cheap movie.
New things in MGS4!
- Instead of hiding in a cardboard box, you can now hide in a ROLLING BARREL! LOLZ!!1!!one! And of course Snake pukes at the end, becuase Snake always has to puke from something. :P
- OMG! Behind the shoulder! Too bad you're shooting the same generic soldiers you've always been sneaking, versus RE4 that features crazed Spanish townsfolk with glowing eyes, pitchforks, and 6-foot-long insects coming out of their neck IN YOUR FACE BEOTCH that made the viewpoint and movement restriction suspenseful and frightening. I'm sorry, but in a war game YOU NEED TO MOVE AND SHOOT AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME.

How you manage to neglect the fact that moving and shooting has been part of MGS since 1 is pretty funny, too.
