Not sure where this belongs, since we have a (stupid) array of choices none of which address current gen. Anyway, I just picked it up at GameStop, and I'm waiting till I get home from my cousin's graduation before I dive in. Please post impressions.

I actually just got in the door with my copy a few minutes ago. I'll probably give it a shot in about an hour and throw some solid impressions down though. From what I understand Play gave the game a 10/10. Not too shabby.
Been playing this for about a week now.
Very much like Princess Crown, with more emphasis on action.
This has got to be the most visually impressive game I've seen in a long time.
Don't sleep on this.
B-
On my way to pick up my pre-order now. Will be playing it in an hour or so, well after the missus is done watching the Lost finale!!
I'll wait until I read some more reviews before I buy this.
The animation is nothing to write home about.
Thank you.
I heard it has slowdown probs.....
I don't get why people are getting hyped over this one tbh....?

I have been thinking about importing Princess Crown for the PSP but really wish it would have came out in the USA.
Ive got it and it exudes sleeper hit. I have been trying to limit my game purchases as of late b/c of a sore financial situation and b/c quite honestly there isnt shit worth my dollar on any of the major platforms of which I have THEM ALL, but in the past two weeks I have bought two (well three if you count AoF Anthology) PS2 titles....The Red Star (an amazing psuedo shooter) and then Odin Sphere today. Yes the animation is beautiful but it isnt anything we really havent seen before, but given the level of detail it is a very aesthetically pleasing title. I have yet to encounter any slowdown as of yet and the battle system is simple, refreshing, yet has its deep moments. I personally suggest this title for anyone that has the extra $40 to spend on it. Its a much better purchase than Dawn of Mana, that I can guarantee.
O.
Too bad the plot looks like saccharine riddled, angsty shite....a nice looking game otherwise...
And if Velvets brother, the guy in this pic becomes a hidden unlockable, I will definitely pick this shit up.
Playing fairy princesses makes me feel like a queer, but I'll probably end up doing it anyway. :emb:

I just sunk about an hour into the game and wrapped up the first chapter, pretty awesome game so far. The high resolution sprites look absolutely amazing, and the use of color honestly makes the game pop off the screen. Combat is simple and addicting, the only problem is I did experience some pretty noticeable slowdown at a few points during a boss fight, but it wasnt any gamebreaking stuff. Anyone hesitant about picking this game up should really do so, it looks like Atlus has published another sleeper hit to throw on the pile of great stuff they've brought us in the past few years.
atlus, eh?
have a jolly good time mate!
please don't start this shit againQuote:

Contrary to what the screenshots seem, this actually is a pretty serious storyline despite the seemingly cutesy screenshots. Don't let it fool you. The story is actually pretty dark and it seriously sports the nicest 2D visuals any game has come with in a very long time, Arc System fighting games be damned. Everything just sorta hums and breathes and feels alive. The boss battles are fucking amazing, large-screen affairs using your radar in the corner to judge where they and the other baddies are (along with projectiles and other items). The music is by the same composer as Gradius V and Radiant Silvergun too.
I mean, if you aren't interested in this, I really can't fathom why you would even post at a place called Neo-Geo.com. This is exactly the sort of game we all pine for, imagining what 2D would have looked like if it had kept evolving when all the major companies abandoned it to please the mainstream morons.
Two hours down, and other than eating, working out and sleeping, I don't think I'll be doing much else the next couple weeks.
Loopz for teh win!Quote:

Seriously, what a completely fun game. Side-scrolling hack n slash NEVER looked this good, nor has had as awesome a soundtrack. The music and overall mood just sucks you in. I really cant remember the last game I bought that made me sit my ass down and just play for four hours straight. Atlus, Vanillaware...thanks guys.
More impressions tomorrow.
You've got a memory like a steel trap kiddo. Now if you'll kindly detach yourself from my balls, I would appreciate it.Quote:

I got it yesterday. Seems very nice so far. It has some odd design decisions but that just adds to the game's charm. It reminds me alot of Guardian Heroes.
Nobody is really carrying this game right now but Gamestop. I went to four other places looking for this and Senko No Ronde and nobody knew what the hell I was talking about.
I'm only two hours in but I'm quite impressed so far.
The visual style just blows me away.
2D nerdgasm-inducing goodness right here.
This will probably go down as one of my favorite looking games (if I were to ever bother making a list.)
Music is top-notch as well.
The orchestral work fits this game perfectly.
It really couldn't be any better.
I don't want to comment much about gameplay until I put more time into it, but so far it's working just as well as every other aspect of the game.
Can't wait to play this game later tonight. I'm surprised nobody's made a thread about this until now. George Kamitani used to work for Capcom and he is one of the main artists for this game - something like that, I read the review in Play magazine.
Hopefully this game will sell well enough to bring 2_D back into consideration when a studio begins work on/looks to green light a project.
I've never completely understood why there has not been room in the world for both 2 and 3_D. Good is good. I like woodblock prints and spraycan art. In the same weekend I may watch a Miyazaki flick, and something w/ killer CG in it. Final Fight is my favorite arcade game, yet OutRun2 is fun as all get out.
I'm not suggesting that things have somehow come full circle and we will have a full blown hand drawn resurgence (it took these guys 10 years to follow up Princess Crown) --- it would just be nice for a few more folks to take a really good shot @ making a gutsy move like this.
It's not 2_D for 2_D's sake, or some gimmick either. This things 'breathes' the way Magic Knight Rayearth did back in '97. I'm equal parts hype for how polished and nextgen this feels, and bummed that chances for this aesthetic to thrive are next to nill.
This game SCREAMS in RGB. Break out the upscan converter, mod your shit, or do what it takes to see this game the way the creators intended-you will be floored.
Long story short, this game makes me glad that I stuck with this hobby, and by stick with it, I mean stay current. We all know how great MOTW, KOF 98, *fill in the blank____* are-this is the first time in along time I have been excited about a NEW game. Someone call Fran...2_D is not yet dead!
*OS fun fact* Let the game cycle thru its attract screen x 5, and for each run thru you get a cool vingette based on the back story of each lead character.
I can only imagine how good this looks in RGB. :drool:Quote:

Hell, most of Capcom's staff that created all that amazing shit in the mid-90s is long gone now from what I hear. Still, just a little more balance would be nice...this is why I'm openly rooting for Odin Sphere to sell as many as possible. There's gotta be a market for this.
I'll have to try that attract thing to see the vignettes. Thanks for the heads up.
Just played 1.5 hours of this game, and like others have already said, this game is awesome. If you are near Fry's, it's 34.99 there, great bargain.
This means something:Quote:

The fact that it's on those two lists means that people are paying attention.
Not just obsessive gamers in the know, but just gamers in general.
Friggin' fantastic game though.
Thinking of actually cutting out of work early to go home and play.
Can't remember doing that for a game in the longest time.

If you could imagine me daydreaming about what the next pinacle of 2_D could be in the early 90's and what it might look or sound like, this would be it.
This is what next gen 2_D is and what I've been waiting over a decade for...this game answers the question, 'what if someone went balls out and pulled out all the stops?'
I could go on and on about the amount of care and dare I say, craftsmanship this game exudes...but it would just sound like a fanboy shilling for Atlus.
They don't need my help. I really hope the game finds an audience outside of the few of us in this thread...the choir has already been preached to at this point.
Funny thing is, I found the attract screen soap operas by accident. I booted up the game thinking I was in for a Treasure-esqe opening anime. I didn't even have a controller plugged in, just wanted to watch the opening before dimeing out for work. Then it looped. :tickled: I watched all 5, and was late leaving home.
After reading the review in Play & seeing all the feedback elswhere i'm inclined to pick this up. While the main characters & general theme are a bit of a putt off to me the action oriented pseudo RPG gameplay & artwork/graphics wake this worth looking into. The fact that the soundtrack looks to be top notch as well helps sweeten the deal.
I'm going to buy this game this week hopefully. All the local stores were sold out yesterday, I might have to get it from amazon or something.
I'm not really sure how the stages work. When I am looking at the map of stages and I release the button (I think X, I'm not sure I haven't played it in a few days) does that take me to that stage or will it only let me go to the next stage it wants me to go to, like preset so I have no control over it. The stages seem a little short and I'm not sure how to advance the story exactly. I gotta figure out what to do with all these phozons and seeds. Sweet graphics though, and the voice acting is nice (plus it has the Japanese audio tracks too).

How's the difficulty curve of this game? Is it long? Is it an Action/RPG? I've heard about it but haven't read much about it.
Basically, when you're in front of an exit, if you push up, you'll see where you are on the stage. You have to realize how the exit you're in front of relates to whatever dot is on the stage circle, and if you hit 'X' you'll progress along the route connecting from that point. I was bewildered at first, it's a little bit clumsy but it becomes second nature.Quote:

I still have to get around to beating puzzle quest.
I figured it out, but now I get it. Not sure what the stars next to the stage mean though. I'm guessing the stages' difficulty level. And I think the item next to the stars represents your reward for defeating the stage. I've completed all the stages and now all that's left is the purple "B" stage so I'm guessing he's going to be harder than the unicorn blue Bosses. So I saved and stopped playing for tonight, this game really is a work of art. Nice to see the ps2 still getting some quality titles. Atlus is one of my favorite companies, hope they make some more Shin Megami Tensei games soon. One last thing, this game should be played with hdloader if you have it (I heard the loading time between stages is 7-10 seconds, but with hdloader it's less than 3 at the most).Quote:

I went to three stores looking for this one and finally found it at Best Buy. Logged about 2 hours so far and I'm in the winter level right now.
I love the alchemy bit, mixing potions on the fly is really neat. The side effect is I'm always searching for items to mix.
Can't wait to get back to it.
