OK so I’ve been playing FF III (snes) For about 12 hours now and I cannot get into this game one bit… I don’t get it, the story it’s boring as hell and I can’t figure out why people love this, so much and think it is one of the best RPG of all time….
Please enlighten me… I’ve stop playing at the opera scene... sooooo what the big deal about this game?

There is a big scene coming up where a lot of crazy shit happens and the game gets even better.
But really, if you don't care for it by the Opera House you probably never will.

Why I loved FF6:
1. The most effeminate of the male characters (Setzer the gambler) looks like fucking Lexington Steele compared to the 15 year old hermaphrodite queebs that pass for leads in todays FFs.
2. All those dirty glitches that helped you burn right through the game.
3. Apocalypses are cool. Depressing shit; also cool. So are ninjas, ghosts, samurais, monks, and ghost samurais.
4. The Illumina: awesome weapon.
What I hated:
1. General Leo dies
2. ff6 fanboys/cosplayers/faggots/etc.
3. Pretty tacky dialogue in the snes version
4. I have to pick between the Ragnarok esper and magicite. Fuck that shit.
5. Mog, Gau, Celes, Terra, Relm, and Strago.

I loved FFIII(VI). I thought it had a great plot and for it’s time, was one of the best looking 16-bit titles ever made. That game pushed the SNES to it’s limits. The sound was great and the gameplay is amazing. For a FF title, I found the plot to be a little weak but the huge cast of characters all but made up for that. They all hate the government for a reason and the game does a great job of telling why. There are tons of great side plots to explore, tons of hidden items and the game takes some time to play through. All-in-all I thought it was great.
Best game of the series. Just sayin'.
I was playing FF VI on the PlayStation not too long ago. I gave up. I didn't even aquire Sabin yet. It's just the leveling up that is such a pain in the ass! I know, I'm pathetic. :annoyed:

It has more characters than any other FF game, and Kefka is easily the most violent and brutal villain in the entire series.
And there's an opera scene, you can have a yeti in your party, and the world actually does get destroyed.
What's not to like? It's the best game in the series.
FFVI is good, but IV is better.
and Phantasy Star II/IV stomps a hole in either :smirk:
FF12 >>>>>>>> all FF combined. Yah, I like it that much. I hit the 100 hours mark in FF12 last night and going back for more. I just love the quick battles and awesome story.

And for the haters, the story does start off slow. You have to give it time, and then it gets really good. FFIV is still my favorite of the series, but VI has slowly worked its way up to my #2 fav over the years.
P.S. - I agree with the statement about PSIV. It's one of the best RPG's of all time, and it's the only futuristic RPG I could ever get into.

You know, I really tried to get into PS titles but never could. I have PS II for the Genesis and the PS Collection of the GBA and although I’ve played I&II through (only spent minimal time with III), I like the whimsical elements of FF better. Sure, FF titles aren’t overly difficult but they are fun. To me it’s like a good book, they aren’t difficult to read and the challenge lies in the time and effort it takes to complete it, quite like FF.
BTW…I’ve played through almost every FF and to this day, I still love FFX the most. The voice acting is a bit cheesy but the story is beyond excellent and the battle system is second to none (as is the sphere grid….loved it). I just played it through for the second time last month…what an amazing title.
For it's time, FFIII (VI) was nothing short of brilliant. In my opinion, at that point in time, there was no better RPG to be found on ANY system.
I suppose that I should mention that I didn’t get into RPG’s until FFVII came out. I really enjoyed FFVII and thought that it was a great game. Then I played Xenogears.. While FFVII is a great game it pales in comparison to Xenogreas IMO as has every other RPG that I have played since… and when I stopped playing FFIII I put Xeno back in, so I could finish up the game I started a few months ago.
There have been a couple points in FFIII that I thought were really cool, but it’s mostly been just boring… I was able to get through FFVIII and X without any problems and they’re not the best rpg’s in the world by any means, but I could at least keep into the game.. FFIX and FF tactics I’ve never been able to get into no mater how hard I try…. Different taste in rpg’s I guess.
Once I finish Xeno I think I’m going way old school and start playing the original Dragon Warrior and then move on to DW2 and DW3 if I’m enjoying the series.
That might explain why you don’t like FFVI. FFVII was an amazing game…unfortunately the 3D elements haven’t aged well.
For some reason, I have a feeling you won’t care for Dragon Warrior. Most of those games (especially the old titles like I&II) are bare bones RPG’s with little to no plot. Basically lots of fighting and exploring with little theatrics.
Nostalgia aside, FF6 was by far the best of the series as far as story goes. Plus it didn't hurt that it was fantastic looking and sounding for the time.
And of course it had Sabin and espers! :glee:
Edit: actually I didn't play FF VIII for more than 2 hours before damning it to hell as being the biggest piece of shit ever made, but I'm assuming VI had a better story than that garbage.

Kefka is insanely evil, the world ends, the music is by far the best in the series, and there is a ton of stuff to do. How can you go wrong?
What I will say though is that I think FF6 is more appreciated by people who like just about every Final Fantasy in the series. I've played through all of the FFs aside from II and III, and I enjoyed them all, including VIII and IX. It seems like all of the best aspects of FF are included in FF6.

The fans who came along with FF7 usually don't get the earlier ones. I turned off at 7 (thought it was total ass) and didn't get back into RPG's until FF9 (which was awesome btw).
I didn't like FFVII much either. I got bored out of my mind playing it.
FFIV and IX are my personal favorites. This thread is making me want to go back and give VI a second chance (it didn't grab me the first time I played it).
I refuse to play X or X2. What little I've seen of them looked horrible. I actually bought X for my sister to play (she's an RPG addict) and she hated so much she just gave it to a friend.
If you aren't hooked by the time you are at the opera scene, then I'd say put the game down. That is, by far, my favorite part of the game.

Has anyone ever tried casting QUICK on Gau and then doing a rage? Does he just attack indefinitely then? :eye:

for me when i was a kid, it was just the shear number of characters that you could use that did it for me. One of the best rpgs ever though, although in recent times i really enjoyed skies of arcadia on the DC that was cool.
BTW the opera scene kicks ass, i still remember my first time seeing it, i was blown away lol

yeh my ps version kept fucking up at the load screens, damn annoying especially when i hadn't saved for ages. Itd start loading a battle the music would start playing and then just never get out of the load screen, i left it for like 12 hours once hoping it would get out of it lol as i hadnt saved for a while. SNES one is where its at. Havent tried the GBA one though, might have to pick it up.
