A company named Hisense showed off 4 different 1080p CRT displays at CES. I can't believe this hasn't been discussed more!?
There's going to be a 27", 30", 32", and a SlimFit 32".
For picture quality buffs, this is a dream if you don't care about having a large, space wasting television.
A 1080p CRT.... Wow, just wow.

Hisense is located about 40 minutes from my house. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what's up. If it's available now, expect a review from yours truly very soon.

1080p on a screen that small is worthless, and you won't see much of a difference between that and 1080i...

In Europe, for a TV to qualify for the label 'HD Ready', the TV has to accept both 720p and 1080i, regardless of whether or not it can actually display all the lines. It's a requirement, which is why you won't find an HDTV that doesn't accept 1080i as well as 720p. If a 1366*768 TV didn't accept a 1080i signal, it would face serious problems when faced with most broadcast HDTV signals, for example.Quote:

But screen size is in the eye of the beholder and it's quite silly to suggest any screen smaller than 37" is unsuitable for movie watching. My 34" is plenty big for me. Those obviously used to screens 50" or larger will find smaller sets too confining but again, it depends on the person.
What is nice about this is the ability that a CRT can do 1080p. Too bad it came a little late for standard size tubes to employ this technology since no one is making tham anymore :crying:
First of all, I've explained quite clearly why it's an advantage to send 1080p@24fps from a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player into a display/projector, even if it doesn't actually display 1080p. You're not going to avoid scaling unless you have a 1920*1080 display, but those aren't always preferable, as has been discussed before.Quote:

No, a movie theater is just even more suitable. That is the logical way to read what I wrote. Of course, it is important not to forget the fact that you usually sit quite a long way from the screen at the movies. Usually one would sit 7 to 10 feet away from a 42 or 50" plasma TV at home. Bigger is better, but I'd hesitate to sit 7 feet from a 200" projector image at home.Quote:

Well I called. I could tell that the man that answered the phone did not primarily speak english, and all I figured out in the conversation is that the model numbers for these 1080p CRTs are not coming up in their system yet.
Has it been said anywhere that these tv's actually display in 1080p? The card next to the tv just states that it supports 1080p signal. I can't find anything concrete, even on avs.Quote:

You're missing the point. I don't give a shit about what OTHER PEOPLE consider to be highly defined. I want a highly-defined (I hate using that term, but "HD" implies a technical this-is-the-bare-minimum meaning) image on my screen. These images are widely in 720p or 1080i. Therefore, I want a TV that is 720p or 1080i. 1024x768 may technically be HD, but it is not a standard for HD material (it's a standard for home computer display), and no one uses it to show HD material. I don't see how you can stand that low of a resolution on a 50 or 60 inch screen. I can't even stand it on my 19" screen.Quote:
