Apparently its not bad and quite quick at loading and spinning a disc compared to some players. It also has no problem playing that java based disc that the other players couldn't play.... or something
*doesn't own one* :emb:
Well I remember reading about load times and such, but hardly notice any when playing a BR movie...Quote:

So there.
I have about 17 blu-ray movies since I got my PS3 last month. I find it to be a great player. I think hd dvd is more consistent in the quality but the blu-ray titles when done right are absolutely amazing. With more consistency blu-ray can win the war.
Only 4 blu-ray movies in hand:
- Speed
- The fugitive
- Kung Fu Hustle
- Swordfish
Haven't tried any one of them yet as I don't have room to setup my PS3........:spock:
I was at the book store yesterday and was browsing the A/V magazines and one of them did a test of the PS3 vs. the other blu ray players available and they said the PS3 was one of the better players...to my amazement. I figured it would be trash like the DVD playback on the PS2.
No, the magazine article is correct, the PS3 BD player is widely regarded to be at worst about the second best player on the market, after only the Panasonic (and that one's also the most expensive, at $1300).Quote:

I have about 65 BD movies at this point, too many to list. I'll do another collection photo one of these days- I have about 110 HD-DVDs, too. ;)

If not grab the HDA2 or if you have a 1080p tv wait for the H20 it'll be 599 and outputs at 1080p only other one that does that is about a grand. I have both and I still prefer HDDVD it's not the technologies fault most companies are still using an outdated codec:angry: I'll be pissed if Commando and Predator look as bad as T2 did.Quote:

For instance, many TV series' weren't shot in widescreen or HD and thus would show very little visual improvement. Also, comedies would look better, but is that really necessary? Would something like Airplane be more enjoyable in HD? Not IMO. Add to that the fact that I feel it is very likely that neither HD DVD or Blu-ray will ever see the kind of widespread acceptance that DVDs have had, and it's probable that DVD will outlive both of them (i.e. in 30 years it will probably be much easier to find a working DVD player than a functional HD DVD or Blu-ray player). Besides, I have had duplicates of several DVDs for years (from when newer/better versions were released), and I've never had the urge to sell the 'old' versions. :)Quote:

In my opinion it's a waste to blow hundreds of dollars on movies at this point. Not only for the mediocre titles on Blu-Ray but also due to the fact they are all over priced and most aren't even top quality conversions. I enjoy poking around the forums here from time to time to get info on Blu-Ray releases and opinions:

And then there's this one, which doesn't reside on the main shelf... :emb:

Totals something like 60 BD and 108 HD-DVD, but there are about 6 or 8 movies I'm gonna pick up this week... :envy:
edit: also, re: upgrading from existing SD-DVDs to BD or HD- I originally planned to upgrade every title possible, but there are several that I don't like enough to upgrade (Jarhead, Clerks II), and others where the hi-def version isn't supposed to be any good, even though I like the movie (House of Flying Daggers, Silent Hill, xXx), that I also don't plan to upgrade. So I'd say it's a case-by-case thing for me.
But if there's a lull in releases for a while, I could see myself picking up those afroementioned titles.
you can't actually enjoy watching all those can you? I have a hard time picking out even 5 titles worth buying on blu-ray.
Some of those hd dvd movies on your shelf there still have the top security sticker on them. Still haven't watched those?
I like watching movies in general. :)Quote:

I definitely go for quality over quantity in my collection of DVDs, HD DVDs, CDs, games, books, whatever. If I don't really like it then I don't want it in my collection.Quote:

Specifically if in a year or so they will be $10 rather than $30. Anyways, I'm not trying to rag on anyone's tastes. Everyone enjoys different things. Just my opinion on the matter. :emb:
edited, was typing while watching some movie called Idiocracy. Which was horrible.

Just an observation and a note on where to go to find new BD titles if you're looking.
BB was favoring BR for a while. Batman Begins was nearly impossible to get there for weeks when it was first released along with other big name releases. Glad they changed I don't think even format should get pushed more then the other.Quote:

But yeah, all stores I've been in seem to put the BR discs in front of HD.
This is why I mostly buy online. The only time I go to BB is when I have a coupon.Quote:

My guess is that retailers will remain wildly inconsistent for another 18 months or two years, easy, while they tie themselves in knots trying to predict which format and what titles have the most potential to be profitable.

I'll buy whatever format Apocalypse Now lands on.....

So, any rumors of Universal coming to Blu-Ray?

On a completely different subject, how is the PQ on The Devil's Rejects on BD?
Universal actually just re-confirmed that they have no plans to do Blu-Ray. Supposedly there are longstanding bad feelings from Universal toward Sony- various insider-types on AVS have repeated claimed that they would be less surprised to see Sony Pictures titles on HD-DVD than they would be to see Universal titles on BD.Quote:

Re: PQ on Devil's Rejects- I haven't seen the BD version, but if Lionsgate's other early BD releases are valid comparison, it won't be impressive at all. Overall, Lionsgate's PQ has been the very worst of any studio supporting either format, IMO. Got mediocre reviews.

Just a quick note- I watched American Psycho last night. Went in with very low expectations, given the negative reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised. The print used for the master was in very bad shape, which is strange, but the actual MPEG2 transfer was very good. Sharp detail and a decent sense of depth throughout.
And wow, I had forgotten how much I love that movie. Harron really nails the nuance and the subtlety and the whole point. Probably the best satire ever made, IMO.
That was Lionsgate right? :emb:Quote:
