cold turkey, 2 weeks ago. I've tested myself, and I can actually be around smokers in the places I used to smoke a lot without craving cigarettes.
This is the same way I quit drugs too.

I have never smoked but I have heard that it is pretty hard to quit. So congrats.Quote:

It's the way I quit, too. All those patches and whatever are a bunch of bullshit. Gradually cutting down doesn't work, either. Just stopping is the only real way. Your mind will try and trick you, making you forget why you wanted to quit, but in the end it just comes down to will. Some people can do it, some can't.
I quit for five whole months via cold turkey approach, then I met this bitch that offered me a smoke and then dumped me.
Alls I can say is I felt really good when I quit, but now I feel like shit, back to square one.
Plan to quit in the new year again.
I heard that if you make it past the first 2 weeks without having a cigarette your body will adapt and you won't have the cravings anymore. I also heard that after 2 days or something, your lungs start to repair themselves from the abuse of the smoke. Feel free to correct me if I am incorrect. In any event, good job quitting. Now just make sure you don't gain a ton of weight.
Consider yourself corrected.Quote:

bullshit. :oh_no:
I quit by eating a 1/8th of shrooms, freaking out and calling 911, tripped balls in the hospital, became a hypocondriac for a year. Feared Cancer, everthing. 6 years and never touched them again except for Acid cigars here and there :emb:
Best way to quit... don't start :D
Alot of times my friends or family members try to quit I give them tough love.. like telling them shit like, "you're a fucking pussy, you cant do it, you'll go back."
A co-worker of mine told me it's easier to quit heroin, which he's been off of for 20 years, but still smokes.
I tried the same, but basically, I smoke 2 cigs a day at work, none on the weekends. I'm too used to smoking to get the fuck away from my desk and I have coworkers who come around everyday and just grab me to come outside.
Considering how much I smoked beforehand, I consider 10 cigarettes a week at the most a major fucking accomplishment.
I'll eventually peter out and stop altogether, I just need this next week off to finally break the habit for good.
1 more week and it would be 3 months cig free. I almost caved in 2 months ago at the bar. Now the cravings are a lot less and I now kinda cant stand being around smokers.
3 and a half years and counting since I quit, cold turkey was the only way
I have dropped off and had a couple of days where I've gone back to smoking but I 'knew what I was doing' (hanging around with old friends) and left that shit straight after - that was almost 2 years ago, last time I had a cig,
the body craves and suffers for ages if you where a long time smoker like I was - and quit out right. I had cold flushes and palpitations, high blood pressure, my immune system actually took a dive for the first 9 months or so and I was getting ill often. sounds weird eh? I was a fucking junkie!
I'm glad to have quit though. I don't much care for it, and afirming yourself is only a good thing.
Who gives a shit?
They just added a 80 cent tax on a package of cigarettes in Arizona. Soon they'll cost so high people will either go cold turkey or start a crime spree stealing shipments of them cancer sticks :smirk:
yeah well, to you tooQuote:

Quitting is hard.
I usually beat a minority to death in place of every cigarette I'd normally smoke. My trunk/basement is getting full, though, so I need to find some other coping mechanism.
Goddammit.
I only smoke on schooldays or when I'm going out, I never even get the urge to smoke when I'm just sitting at home, really odd.
Quitting is easy.
You'll probably do it another 20 times or so before it's all over.
My father quit for 20 years, and then went back, but hardly ever smokes. Like he only really does it on Sundays during the game. I guess the cravings really just never go away.
I never even tried it. I fucked pure pressure in the ass. Cause im just that amazing.
pure pressure's a bitch.
Was that supposed to be 'peer pressure'?Quote:

Quit OxyContin cold turkey - was a horrible experience, and my doctor told me he would prescribe something to ease the withdrawal symptoms, but I was so dead set on getting off every pill, I declined.... and sat in my house for 3 weeks...
Quit smoking cold turkey in '00 - never went back
Quit drinking soda cold turkey 4 years ago, and have not had a sip since
I'm temp. back on Vicodin until my epidurals are done and I get my MRI results back...
I really, really like Vicodin...
Its easy to quit when you want to....

@Wes: If you win the lottery or don't have a family to take care of then I'd say go for it. Otherwise, be prepared to set your life on hold for scheduled raids & never ending farming. Smoking would be a far less taxing addiction, probably healthier too. My dog even lost weight while I was on WoW.
Yea WoW is definitely a drug. When my GF was away for 8 months I started playing it and maxed out a character. I figured that after a very painful experience with EQ where I was basically making excuses NOT to go out with my friends so I could sit home and play, I figured if I don't stop WoW by the time my GF comes back, she will leave me. Anyway, I haven't played since May, but I got to tell you some days I am just hurting to fire it up. I tried to cancel my account last week but for some reason I just couldn't do it. Isn't it amazing how games are the drugs of the 21st century.Quote:

That mixed with a few drinks made for a very nice Thursday night.
Thanks, Shawn! :D Good luck kicking the WoW habit.Quote:

Call me crazy, but I kind of like the smell of smoke.
Played FFXI from PS2 launch (Mar '04)-Dec.05. Played 10-12 hours on some days (employed off and on from Mar-Nov. 04). Gave up in the end cold turkey with no cravings. Totally burned myself out.
Tried playing Phantasy Star Universe, but just canceled my subscription. The magic just isn't there. I don't know if I'll ever play an MMO ever again. At least FFXI was a good one to burn out on. One of the deepest and most hardcore MMOs there is. I've gotta laugh at the MMO scene though. It's an interesting sub culture of gamers. They seem to move from one game to another, and that's all they play. (Understandably so).
A friend of mine who lives one state over got into WoW, his co-workers BOUGHT HIM a computer just so he could play with them. Guess they needed a priest real bad. (Are priests the bards of WoW or something?!) There's worse ways to spend your time.
TonK mentioned giving up pop. Now that's one addiction I don't think I could ever kick. I have to have at least one can a day. By the time I'm 40, I'll start looking like those white trash people with teeth missing or something. I try to brush everyday and use rinse. Maybe they'll have implants by then if they don't now.
Took me two years of a cutting back to quit. Tried to do it cold turkey, but had urges too strong...
Congrats on quitting your addictions! I've never played WoW, so it's hard for me to imagine how addicting it can be...
Now quitting drinking.. that would be impossible I think, has anyone done it?
I smoke a 1/4 pack of Djarum Specials a day. I love them.
My lungs, like my liver, are made of steel.
I have do desire to make it to 75. The world is a veil of tears anyway, why meander?
PS: Online MMORPGS are for losers.
So sorry.
Cunnilingus is where it's at. It leads to an implication of fellatio.
oh shit.
I didn't know what Djarum was so I checked it out on the internet.
that shit is lovely. I must admit I would never have quit smoking if I had easy access to that. tried my first 13 years ago - was awesome. then quite few packs in Japan until I couldn't breath. definetly amazing. sorry for being so contradictory here - they're that good. lol.
and I used to love rollies. until my fingers went yellow almost permanently and I was smoking way too many a day. still, really nice.
ahem.. sorry. smoking kills.
Good luck with quiting smoking man. I quit for a month, and do to stress started again. I'm 24 and have been smoking since I was 18.
Congrads.
I've failed both times I've tried to quit in the last year.
I plan on trying again early next year. Right now simply isn't a good time, lots of stress. Wait till things are calm then give it my all again.
I had a pretty good cocaine habit going at one point, and smoking was definately the hardest thing I ever quit. Still have trouble with cravings to this day.
Matt
I don't even like normal cigarettes really. A Djarum tastes sweet on the lips too. It's funny cause a lot of people think the inhale is overwhelming. I think it's way nicer than a say, Marlborough Red. And people seem to either like the smell, or hate it. No inbetween for some reason.Quote:
