There's a definite shift here in attitude towards the PlayStation brand.
Seems only Namco is really sticking with Sony anymore...between this and DQ, that is a huge change in third-party attitudes towards what was the market leader.

true, if VF5 was your only reason to buy a PS3 then you should be very happy about the news. Buying a $600 system for just 1 game is absurd, but Im not a big VF fan so I guess I don't see what all the hoopla is about.

A sega game getting a delayed release on the 360 doesn't seem like a massive shift in the tide to me. Now if rockstar started having delayed releases on the PS3 that would be another story........

Rockstar is not that big of a deal.
You're ignoring DragonQuest going to DS, which is absolutely seismic in Japan.
There's also a general consensus among developers right now that the new consoles overall are so expensive to produce for, it's really a dumb idea to put all your eggs in one basket and give Sony or MS exclusivity. That hurts Sony more than anyone, since PS2 fucking thrived on those exclusives. More and more developers are considering the handhelds to be their potential future bread n butter, since they are far cheaper to make games for.

The PS3 is the absolute toughest environment to make games for, with it's tough architecture and less powerful gfx card.

Expense + difficult development = changes ahead.

also like everyone else has said, we need a fighting controller. this d-pad blows. i hate playing street fighter and mortal kombat with it. it forces me to use the analog stick which is worse.

This is the best news I've heard all day. I just recently told my wife that I was planing on picking up a PS3 in 2007 just so I could play VF5. Now if Sega would just release all the previous VFs (or at least VF 2 and 4) on Xbox Live Arcade all would be right with the world.

Seriously, I think Sony will never match the PS2's success. The PS3 has fewer and fewer exclusives that make you question the system at all. The PS2 never had those problems and had good exclusives from day 1.

Actually, the PS2 had good exclusives starting from Day 1, 1 year after its release in the states. It's initial release schedule was basically humdrum games and shoddy Dreamcast ports. However, Sony did offer something more consumer catchy, at the time. A nice DVD player was in high demand, and a definite leap from VHS. Everybody had the TVs and technology to make best use of the DVDs and thus, a big push for it. That, and the fact that EA shunned the Dreamcast completely. I'd guess the big US day 1 exclusive was Madden, and that's all she wrote.

The first Next-Gen Madden and Tekken Tag. They also got the rest of the EA Sports lineup too, which was huge at the time.

For real gamers, yeah the PS2 didn't really pickup till the end of its first year.

I was just thinking to myself this morning how I'd just wait until February and then pick up a PS3 in time for VF. Looks like I get to save that cash for something else.

Actually i'm rather glad it's being delayed. Sega can see how things are with the PS3 version and fix it for the 360.

Agreed on the controller issue. I was just getting used to using a stick with my Naomi so I'm ready to use a stick with the 360. Hopefully they'll make a package out of the whole thing and give us a nice stick ala Tekken 5

There aren't many pads worse for fighting games than the 360 controller, but the PS2/PS3 pad is one of them.

With fighting games on either console, a third party controller is a necessity.

I'm going to have to agree. I can't use a Dual Shock 2's DPad for fighters. I have a bunch of 3rd Party PS2 pads that are like Saturn Pads. The 360 Pad for fighters is passable for me, but I wouldn't use it if I could help it.

Of course I own more joysticks (homebrew and built ones) than I have any right to simply because of this fact.

So who knows where to get PS2 -> 360 USB converters?

I havent seen such a convertor yet, because if I did, I'd be all over it to use with my HRAP2. I know you can gut a wired 360 pad and put it in a stick though. Maybe you can go that route.

Give them Hong Kong people some time and demand. I guarantee that they'll make a converter as soon as a decent fighter is available for the 360 (ala VF5).

It's too much of a pain in the ass, and as I've gotten older and my time becomes more and more scarce I'm less inclined to go the homebuilt route.

Thank you! I know that this won't matter because everybody in Japan will just buy the PS3 version, but I've wanted to get a 360 for the rest of the exclusive games so this will be the deciding factor. I will pick the game and system up when it comes out.

Hopefully they will have a good stick that will work well with the system so there won't be a reason to buy converters that won't work right.

I also hope they'll include a mode like Evo had. Quest mode ruled.

Weird. The PS2 controller is my prefered controller over the 360. At least the PS2 Dpad is usable compared to the 360s.

Funny as several tiomes I've asked on this forum what people's opinions were as to whether it'd ever make it to 360, and have been told point blank by several people that it wasn't going to happen, like EVAR. I've said it before and I'll say it again - 3rd party developers can't afford to make single format games anymore for 360 or ps3, the development cycle is too expensive - 3rd party exclusives will only stay that way for 6months to a year tops before hitting the other format.

Of course, in Japan this won't matter, as they'll buy ps3s as they are fanatical about the VF games to care about not waiting 6 months. Of course, if it came out on the 360 first, it could just save the console in those shores, but I don't think it'll happen...
