Fuck the Wii (Not interested in it any longer)

I was all about getting the Wii.

I changed my mind now and bought a 360.

After looking at it, I'm convinced it's one of the dumbest fucking things ever.

It's not to say I won't buy it at a later date.

But goddamn, price aside, it's like the Gamecube 1.5.

The controller is novel and everything, but what exactly is there to play for this?

Trauma and Zelda?

Excite Truck? Gets old quick.

I can see your gripes.

I have to admit the novelty of it alone makes me curious enough to buy it. There aren't really any games for it other than Wii sports that interests me. I have to admit virtual console has me interested. The Wii also has me interested because it's a no-frills, all gaming system (sans the photo viewing and web browsing).

The lack of HD output doesn't faze me at all. I'm happy with what I have and I don't care. I would've cared 5 years ago, but all I want to do now is play games and I can do that with my TV now.

They would of been better just bringing the Wii controller out for the GC.

i played the Wii last night for the first time, i thought it was pretty cool, but even on an HDTV at EB Games the graphics looked like shit! But i thought Excite Truck was ok, the novelty wore off the 15 minutes i was standing there playing it and plus my fucking arms started to hurt.

then went over to the PS3, and said in my head..WOW..this is my Xbox 360 with very cheap controllers

hey, the system isn't for you right now. Maybe one day down the road, there will be an exclusive title that will change that, but really who cares right? Just follow the games.

I think I'm going to follow the games today. I'm going to CTF and I'm going to use all these fucking tokens I have left over.

To me the wii is now un interesting, maybe in 1 or 2 years, the good looking games will pop up. I see it will lack some 3rd party titles for the first years, I'm hoping that improves.

But as TP comes for the GC on december and I may grab a copy next year, I don't see the need of wiimoting soon.

nintendo obviously went after the "walmart 20-1 game controller system" crowd with this one. it woulda been a pretty novel system at 149, but 249, no way.

hell if the thing just supported highdef, i probably woulda got it for a zelda fix, since I havent played a good zelda game since OOT.

highdef support makes the games look better, and adds to the overall experience, anyone who says it doesnt matter has no HDTV, because it will matter when they get one. would I buy a 360 game that only ran in 480p? hell no.

Because I've just played Excite Truck for fifteen minutes on it and didn't think much of it, but I hardly considering that enough hands-on experience to sway me from a purchase.

I know I'm at least going to give the system the same treatment I gave the DS when it launched.

Eh, I could see saying it now. But I agree you won't be able to by the end of the generation. It was a weird move. Not nearly as bad a misstep as staying with cartridges a generation too long, but kind of reminiscent of that kind of out-of-touch decision making.

newsflash: Gameboy and PS2 didn't sell BECUASE they had worse graphics than their competetors. They sold because they had the games. The end. That's arguably true about DS as well. But it's not true about any of the 3 next gen systems yet. Certainly not the Wii, whose announced lineup consists of Zelda and a bunch of jobbers that hopefully will pass the time until the next A-list title comes along, whenever that will be (in the interest of fairness, I'll add that the PS3 lineup consists ENTIRELY of jobbers. As uninspiring as it is, at least the Wii lineup does have Zelda).

Like many others, I've already done that with N64. Luckily Gamecube was so cheap and RE4 came along, or it would have been twice.

Well, I love the 360 right now and IMO it is the best next gen system right. However, I am picking up the Wii for Zelda and a few other games that only seem to come out for the Nintendo systems.

A 360/Wii combination seems like a great one if you can afford it.

I will just say that one year in, the 360 has some amazing games out right now and you really can't go wrong with one.

I was REALLY thinking about trying to get one tomorrow but I'm having second thoughts. First off, I want to play it first. I have this feeling that I may not like the whole movement thing for main games. When ti comes to side games (golf, bowling, tennis, etc) then possibly but sitting there, playing Zelda for hours waving my hands around like a nut simply does not seem appealing to me.

I'm going to sit back and watch this thing unfold. If Nintendo is telling the truth, there's going to be plenty of Wii's to go around in a few months. If I want one then, I'll get one.









You know, the $249 price tag is a HUGE turn-off. I was expecting $199 or even $179 out of this thing. For the Wii, an extra controller (and it looks like the "remote" and the "nunchaku" are sold separately....bullshit) and Zelda you're talking well over $350.

I'm not so sure I'm willing to pay that much $$ for that...I think I'd rather have a Duo R and legit copy of Dracula X...

Until Mario Galaxy comes out, I have no interest in this system.

I still own an N64 for Mario 64 so for now, I'll stick with my Gamcube 1.0 as opposed to adding the 2.0 version for no reason whatsoever.

If i had the money i'd get a Wii and an Xbox 360.

I don't though.

So i'll get a Wii and hope for an Xbox 360 price drop eventually.

Er well maybe after i graduate i'll get a real job and buy some toys.

I just saw a Wii up and running the other day on a high def monitor, and I didn't think it looked crappy, at least not nearly as bad as people on this forum have been posting. Maybe some of the video game stores are either using crappy monitors/TVs or setting them up incorrectly.

Rondo is over rated.

I think the Wii is just one of those systems that will really grow on a lot of people who originally hated it. Right now the controller seems ok but more of a novelty but there is a lot that they can do with it. You'll see a lot of great games for it in a year and it will no doubt be the system with the most exclusives.

Here's a frightening thought I had while in the shower:

Picture the Wii launch.... IF Nintendo hadn't decided to hold back Zelda from the GC and make it the "best" Wii launch title.

That would leave.... a whole lot of crap for the launch. Best game would be Monkey Ball? I love monkey ball and all, but if that would have been their system seller/killer launch title I would be rolling around on the floor myself laughing.

The N64 had Mario 64 at launch, look how long it took them to get anything out after that.

Waverace 64 didn't hit till the end of October/beginning of November in 1996.

Titles just trickled out...what a waste it all was.

The 360 at least had CoD2 (fun for me and lets say pretty much everyone else who bought a 360) and PGR3. Neither of those were original xbox games held back in a desprate bid to not have the 360's launch go down in flames.

PDZ wasn't great IMO, but probably its about the same quality of game as TP. Great if its your thing, not so much if its not.

Yeah, & I'd bet you that not even 8% of people have an HDTV. 360: about $400 PS3: about 600-700 (minus the hype underproduction rush) WII: around $250

Nintendo is an accessible system to the general public, the general 92% of people that don't have & can't afford HDTV. They are still about supporting the general gaming community imo. I don't think it was a bad move on their part by any means.

Nobody said it was their answer to the ps3 & 360, it was just their next step.

You could have given near the same statistic for DVD players back around '95-'96. But by 1998, that was no longer even near being true. What was once a high-ticket speciality item that your one asshole friend loved rubbing everyone's nose in, is now something you can find two of in nearly every trailer in every park all across this great Land of ours.

I can't afford (and don't even particularly want) an HDTV. No one in my family has one; only a couple of my friends have one. But I'll bet before the end of the Wii/PS3/360 lifespan, HDTV becomes a lot more common with normal folk.

It is inevitable. HDTV is not going to go away any more than CDs or DVDs (or their successors). The only question is timeframe. I don't care about HDTV at the moment, but I can't help think it was a bad call on Nintendo's part.

My videophile friend tried to tell me last night that HDTV's are outselling standard TVs over the last few months. I've been looking online, but can't find any stats to prove this true or false.

TP on the Gamecube. Then I'll look at the Wii again when HEROES, MP3, and Mario Galaxy are here.

Turns out the GameCube version might be almost exactly the same, minus the "tacked-on" (Gamespot's words, not mine) special controller elements . You should just get the GameCube one if you only want to play Zelda.

So far most of the Wii games reviewed at Gamespot.com have gotten mediocre ratings. Looks like there may not be anymore decent games at launch than the PS3 has.

But IGN has been giving good reviews to almost all Wii games. I don't like either sites but I don't see why everybody is bitching because TP got an 8.8 at GS every other site has given it 9/10

The 360 may have the best nextgen title right now (Gears of War), but other than that, the system has had a year to build up a decent library, and there still isn't much available for it, and not that many people own one. Those of us who bought the 360 the first year had to wait too long for Gears. You can get Need For Speed Carbon and Sonic, but the PS3 will have them too. I'm not sure the 360 will be the most reliable choice in the future. I think after a year or so from now it will gradually begin to fade.
