Well, it is out now in Eastern Time Zones, so let the drama begin.....
No story, but check out all of them being listed on eBay right now...
I image some of those people getting back in line for the Wii.
It's 11: 25 right now on the west coast, and i'm about to go down to Fred Meyer to see just how many people are lined up. My money is going to a Wii though.
:buttrock:
turns out my fred meyer only has 2 systems for sale, and they're doing the "luck of the draw" method tommorow at 6:00 a.m.
My friend's wife got hers tonight.
I'll be over playing it tomorrow night.
The PS3, not his wife.
failure story:
I got lazy and forgot to get a sam's club card
I decided to check around in the 11th hour
found a Kmart with no line
sign on the door said something or other about them not getting one
so I took a shit by the front door and took off
so Kmart with no get playstation 3
Give me my fucking time back.Quote:

Edit Got the system now. Woop-de-fuckin-doo. Could care less about this bland, glorified piece of shit ( you heard me right Mushiki:smirk: ). Off to Ebay I go.
I just got back from camping out all night at Target for a PS3. The store I was at was getting 34 units, I waited in line there all night from 8:45 PM to 7:30 AM and I still DIDN'T GET ONE.
The whole system is broken, and here's why:
I was actually planning to open and play my system, and I was going to buy games for it at the same store. Having plenty of time to meet and visit with the people I was waiting in line with, I learned that the vast, vast majority of the people in line were buying the systems so that they could immediately list them on ebay. People were citing auctions currently going for $3,000+ and they practically had dollar signs in their eyes while they were talking about it. Anyone there who admitted they actually wanted to buy it so they could keep the system and play it (and you were generally considered a dork if you did) was like a novelty. People were auctioning off their tickets to the other people in line after getting them. The prices were in excess of $600 each (just for the ticket to get a system, not the system itself).
I remember going to Target on the N64 US launch date at store opening, and having no trouble purchasing a system right away with no hassle. It has gotten to the point where people who want to pay the retail price for the system and play it upon launch, as Sony/Microsoft intended, can't get a system anymore. A system launch should be something exciting, and generally pleasant. All the fun has been entirely sucked out of the system launch. The system at Target should be designed for people who intend to use the system as intended, not for people simply looking to make a profit.
I propose the following changes to the system:
No more lining up prior to opening on launch date. Anyone lining up inside or outside the store should be asked by security to leave the premises or be accused of loitering.
Few systems at a time should be restocked on the shelves during the first few days after launch at random intervals so that no one can try to guess ahead. It should be done on a first come first serve basis so that no one is forced to wait. Stock intervals should remain random so that no store employees know when they will become available (and can share the inside information with their friends).
Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo should negotiate with ebay (as they have regarding imports to the UK) about disallowing any listings of the system prior to one month after launch. This may sound drastic, but the worldwide free-market has effectively spoiled the system so that real gamers are forced to pay exorbitant amounts.
I know these suggestions may sound drastic, unnecessary, and impossible, but keep in mind I'm someone who has just come back empty-handed from a very long night.
More details on my shitty night:
I went to Wal-mart first to check things out. The one I went to only was getting 2 or 4, and people were already camped out at 8 PM, and they were all spoken for. I headed to what I thought would be an ideal Target location, but they were only getting 10, and again they were all spoken for by campers waiting outside (while the store was open). The campers were outside in the cold laying in chairs all covered up with blankets and sleeping bags, their bodies motionless, as if zombified. It was very creepy. I didn't want to go near them.
I was told that the downtown Target would be getting 33 units, and I drove in, saw the line, and decided it looked achievable. (I don't know if downtown Targets are common elsewhere in the country, but here in Minneapolis we have one, possibly just because the company's headquarters is here.)
I have never camped for a system before, never thought I would, and never will again. I was disgraced last year at the XBox 360 launch, after taking the situation too lightly. I half-heartedly lined up at a different Target location, waited for less than an hour, and impatiently left just minutes before the tickets were passed out. I would have gotten one, but I decided it would be okay to wait in my car in the parking lot instead (apparently not). I didn't know shit about the ticket system back then, didn't understand it at all, and I feel dumber now for understanding it.
Since I didn't have to work, I decided this year I'd might as well prove that I'm not a quitter, and I'd endure the adventure of waiting in line all night. Surely after spending all night outside downtown, I would get one, and no one could accuse me of quitting like I did last year.
During the course of the night I was forced to pee in an alley, was approached by many bums and druggies, and endured a ridiculous parking bill of $27. I had thought it would be practical to park in the Target ramp, since I was shopping at Target, but on my way out the next morning, leaving empty handed, was asked to pay $27.
I came away from this night very cold, disheartened, empty-handed, and needlessly $27 poorer. My faith in humanity has also been shaken.
Someone already got shot. The PS3 is gangsta.

Waited in line at Target for 21 hours, and got a 20gig. Not sure what I plan on doing with it yet, but I am tired.
congrats man. I hope you get a good price for it.Quote:

Even Presidential Candidates Agree: Wal-Mart is the Best Place to Shop for
Hot Electronics Items this Christmas Season
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Just like the
millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT)
for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen.
John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation3,
one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season.
Yesterday, a staff person for former Sen. Edwards contacted a Wal-Mart
electronics manager in Raleigh, North Carolina to obtain a Sony
PlayStation3 on behalf of the Senator's family. Later that night, Sen.
Edwards reportedly re-told a homespun story to participants of a United
Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union-sponsored call about how his son
had chided a fellow student for purchasing shoes at Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart welcomes Sen. Edwards to visit his local Wal-Mart store and
explore the extensive line of home electronics as well as the Metro7 line
shoes for men and boys.
The Company noted the PlayStation3 is an extremely popular item this
Christmas season, and while the rest of America's working families are
waiting patiently in line, Senator Edwards wants to cut to the front.
While, we cannot guarantee that Sen. Edwards will be among one of the first
to obtain a PlayStation3, we are certain Sen. Edwards will be able to find
great gifts for everyone on his Christmas list - many at Wal-Mart's
"roll-back prices."
In my opinion, the only way to avoid all this bullshit is that the companies WAIT to release the system until they have enough units ready to satisfy the expected inital demand, without caring about nothing else. It's useless to rush a release so it is out before Christmas if only a minority can get them.Quote:

Banning ebay sales would also be good but I don't think it would happen, and still people would just be selling them somewhere else which possible has even less buyer's protection, so it's a scamfest.
Finally, the ultimate solution is that it's Sony itself who puts all available systems on ebay and keeps all the profits to themselves.
Fully agreed, man. Nintendo is doing a better job of this. That's why I won't attempt to stop my brother from lining up for a Wii tomorrow, despite my bad PS3 experience. Given, the Wii hardware is somewhat less complicated and probably simpler to manufacture, but in the case of both the 360 and the PS3, I don't believe the companies were appropriately prepared for a worldwide launch.Quote:

They had to get PS3 in stores this year for the holiday season. They definitely need the boost in Bluray sales, because Bluray is taking a beating from HDDVD sales. Those of us who don't give a shit about all this and just want the games get caught in the middle.Quote:

It was better when there was more space between the Japanese and American launches. This gave the company more time to manufacture enough consoles. Originally Sony was planning to do the Japanese launch earlier this year, but they weren't at all ready for that.
I heard that the Circuit City Express in the Mall of America had 2 units on a first-come-first-serve, and they were basically opening the mall gates and letting the people run. Could have been just a rumor.Quote:

Saw another guy walk out, no games in his bag either.
They weren't clear bags mind you, but you could see the outline of only the box.
The guy I saw walk out, I could have easily clubbed in the head and taken the system if the Target employees weren't sitting on the bench outside. I even could have followed him and put him off the road.
But, the joke of it all is that the system has nothing worthwhile yet. Resistance looks fun, but it's not a must have title.
I think I will buy a 360 before this.
I need to go look at HDTV's at BB today.
I still honestly think that with such a huge percentage of these systems going on ebay, the actual supply of these consoles will be greater than the demand by idiots with pockets that are too heavy.Quote:

As always, I could be wrong if people are even more brand loyal \ lemming like than I could have thought. I also could be wrong if the number of people who are willing to pay double retail + for a status symbol that is only going to "impress" people for 3 months is larger than I think.
I guess we will know in a month.
There are robbery stories coming in. A couple armed gunmen in Connecticut held up the 15-20 people in line outside a Wal-Mart, and actually shot one guy who resisted. It's sad, but I don't know what people are thinking standing outside a store in the dark at 3 in the morning with $600 in their pocket.Quote:

It's all about priorities.
I just wanted to see if anyone has been reporting a broken PS3 yet. I work part time for Target and our demo unit broke down after less than 24 hours. The thing will not power up and the power light just flashes. Had to call Sony to send someone out but so far it's still broke.
same thing may happan to a co-worker (friend) went out for the ps3 for his cousin. I think he was getting payed 100 or 200 just to get it for his little cousin :lol:Quote:

Well, from the 2 pages of posts that I have read already, it seems like the Sony launch was a complete and utter disaster. Shootings, muggings, robberies, getting fired from jobs and such is surly not the image Sony wants for the PS3.
Mark my words, I will predict this now, the Wii launch will be as smooth as a newborn baby's ass.
This was completely expected, IMO. My words were marked, and saved on this forum, so I don't have to repeat what I said a year ago. Not that I give any more blame to Sony, but there was nothing that possibly gave me any impression that Sony would miraculously do some special unrealistic way to not run into the same, if not worse, launch issues given their resources, and ship units before christmas. Attempting a same world-wide launch idea, even after the not-so-worldwide launch issues of the PS2 launch.
In the likeness of Col. Trautman's words from Rambo 3. "They had their Vietnam, now it's time you had yours."
The big question is, will it take the same amount of time before units become readily available as the PS2 did?
Still, it's a rush issue, units are going to fail, etc. Thus waiting is a virtue unless it already has titles, you've been on pins and needles for.
Thanks man. I actually just took one for a test drive at smithhaven mall & it was entertaining for a minute or two (with a game that won't be released untill next year no less:rolleyes: ) but I couldn't keep mine even if i wanted to. I got some unfortunate medical news this october & will need all the extra money I can get.Quote:

There are 10 000 ps3s on ebay right now.
And over 5000 sold.
For a total of 15 thousand. Im sure not all of them are up there yet. But it seems a little low.
I wonder how many are on yahoo.
Oh Jesus read the info.Quote:

The PS3 is a heavy POS that didn't look worth $600 let alone $2700 while it was running. The FMV looked great, but I'm not playing the FMV. I don't think there is a real gamer out there who is actually buying this thing. Metal Gear is the only game that I was looking for and rumors have been running around about making it for 360 as well as the PS3. If that is the case, I really have no reason to buy the system.
And other than the HD features, can anyone please give me a positive reason to own it? I realize that it is a cheap Blu Ray player, but after reading a review from Spike, he seemed to thing that was the only real reason to own the system currently.
Yeah, that was very funny stuff. I mean, those are the king of hilarious lines that could sell a new Brawler like Final Fight or something.Quote:
