I mean... they're shipping in the millions (right?), but the stores will still sell out when they open. Is anyone going to camp, or is that just a PS3 thing?

The PS3 is going to be easier for those who try because it's happening on a Thursday night, when a lot of people have work the next morning.
I'm planning to line up for the PS3, and may help my brother line up for the Wii.
This will be a sequel to my disaster with the 360 last year. I had never heard of tickets, and thought I was going to just waltz in there at store opening and grab one as long as I was there when it opened. (That's how it worked with the N64.) Instead I was pissed how much trouble it was, and decided the 360 wasn't worth it. I ended up cussing out a Target employee too (he deserved it). It's a shitty system designed only for those in the know.
And then I couldn't get a 360 for months (hopefully Sony will do a better job with supply). It's buy it at launch or wait three months.
Im going to Walmart on Sunday and getting one. I dont expect any problems.Quote:

I'm thinking about hitting the Target nearby, but it depends on how many people are there. They open at 8AM, so I thought I would roll by at about 6AM and see if anyone is waiting. If it looks promising (less than 30 people waiting), I may go for it. I doubt the store is getting more than 30-40 though, and hopefully they will be plentiful enough that there won't be a problem. I had a bad experience with the 360 launch that I don't feel like repeating.
But if there are 30 people waiting, won't that mean the first people in line will get one, and you won't?Quote:

I'm really torn here; I really want a Wii, but I'm not going to camp for upwards of a day for nothing.Quote:

On the upside, the guy at Target (store manager; they're all I will talk to) says that they've only gotten 2 or 3 calls for the Wii total, while upwards of 100 for the PS3.
I heard these sob stories with the DS too.Quote:

I may try Wal-mart for the midnight release, but I'm not going there more than 2 hours ahead. I wonder if they're giving them out at 11 or midnight in the Central time zone.Quote:

That's why I said I would wait if there were less than 30 people there already.Quote:

Yes, they do. I was wondering if it was midnight in all time zones, or if most of them went by Eastern time regardless.Quote:

The ticket system simply means that they go on sale at 7:00AM, but you don't get the actual product until 8:00AM.Quote:

I am going to be camping out in my bedroom, despite the fact that my room is recieving 0 units at launch.
There's a ShopKo about 3 minutes from my house. I'm just going to wake up early (about 30 mins before they open) and try and get one. if they don't have any left.... well then my nephew has one reserved, so i'll get to play no matter what.
I wasn't even planning on getting a Wii for awhile... but I sold my PSP and few other things so now I've got the cash to spend. Still wasn't too decided, but then I read the reviews for Zelda. Now I'm set on getting one.
There is a Myer and a Walmart near me that are selling them on a first come first serve basis at midnight. I'm not down for camping out at anything besides a forest. But I do plan on swinging by an hour early to try to snag one.
It's on a Saturday though. Which means that I won't be out drinking with friends. I'll bring a flask.
Camp out for a wii nope i'll get one next year.
Beside got a new tv coming soon so... i'm short on cash this time around.
That fucking sucks. How many units was it scheduled to receive?Quote:

You'd better make sure they're not giving out tickets before opening like Target, or that plan won't work.Quote:

Regardless of the fact that a Wii will probably be readily available the next day. But hey, I've never "camped out" for a system, so might as well do it once eh?
I'd never camp out for a system.
I may be a nerd but I'm not that big of a nerd.
With the information we've received about Wii system numbers, I really don't think it's going to be too hard to snatch one up.
At the very worst, I'll get up a few hours before the stores open (there's an assload of Target's, Circuit City's and Best Buy's in my immediate area) and check the situation out.
FYI, do not camp at target. Its going to be a raffle system over there, so camping will be pointless.
if there's one way to reclaim your virginity, I think that might be it...Quote:

Yeah, I agree camping out for systems is retarded. It's blatant, rampant consumerism way out of control. If only it were possible to just buy a system like normal after its release. I was totally pissed last year after the 360 launch.
may hit up the best buy by my house
always wanted to do a camp out thing for a system
Ill be hanging out at Walmart a few hours prior to midnight the 19th, with my old Play it loud gameboy, and my Wii will rock you t shirt.
I remember it took forever for the jackasses that work at wal mart to get the ds lites. I wonder if the same thing will happan with the wiiQuote:

I'm going to drive by Walmart at like 11pm-ish and see how it looks. If there are a lot of people/it sells out then I'll just go to Target/Best Buy in the morning.
I'd be careful about going to Walmart just before midnight. I heard they were giving out tickets around 10. (Just to make sure people have to come extra early.)
Looks like the Costco by us is going to get them on Sunday. I have to do sound at my church but my wife and brother in law will be heading over there at around 9AM to try and pick it up. The associates at the store didn't even know what the Wii was, but after looking it up for me confirmed that it's in their system and should be there on the 19th.
Not that I'll get to play it till XMas anyway. Well I will but it'll be on my friends Wii, she works at Gamestop so she'd getting one.
lol sound at my church
Fred Meyer is doing a midnight sale, so i'm going to try there first.
then if I don't get one there, ShopKo is getting 13, and they're opening at their normal time.
I'll probably have to do something unorthadox in that case if I want one. :kekeke:
When is a good time to head to an establishment for the midnight sale?
I was going to go to Fred Meyer at about 9: 00, too early, not early enough?
Something I read on CNN that I didn't know about... "this thing doesn't even play current generation DVDs (for now at least - a second version will be released next year)." Are some of you thinking of holding off for the next version, or just getting the first verison then pawning it when the next is available?
The 2nd version of the Wii sounds like the closest thing I'll get to a Qube replacement. Even if I got the Wii now, the Qube does too much for me to sell it, so I'd have to keep both systems. :annoyed:
Oh yeah, that reminds me... region control and backward compatibility on the Wii... what's the good word? I assume it'll be a few days before anyone knows, but doesn't hurt to ask.
I went to Best Buy today and saw the folks camping out for the PS3.
I'd never seen people camping out for a console with my own two eyes before.
It was probably the most hopelessly pathetic thing I've ever seen in my life.
I'm a nerd and I fully admit that, but compared to these people?
They make me feel better about myself to be perfectly honest.
The Wii can play every game released on the Gamecube fine. As for region control, Nintendo is leaving that up to 3rd party developers (meaning they can have it on or off). However, Nintendo themselves said that all games produced by them shall be region free so its safe to say a few developers will likely follow their lead.Quote:

I just want to walk in on Sunday sometime...and pick one up...if possible. If not...ohhh well. I have to work Sunday morning at 5am to 11am. Sooo...we'll see what happens after that when I get off work.
I really could give two shits whether the thing plays DVDs or not. I have a DVD player, a ps2, xbox, pc, and alot of other things that play DVDs. Now, if we were talking about HDDVD or Bluray, that's a different story. But DVD players are so plentiful that it makes no difference to me.Quote:
