But...but...its got BLU-RAY!!!
360 owners strive .. for something.. anything
:help: :multi_co:
Even though I'm not a fanboy of either, I dont understand why you would compare 2 different games. If they were comparing RR6 on both systems that makes sense. Thats like me comparing Metal Slug 3 on Xbox vs. Metal Slug 4/5 on PS2.
Makes me wonder about the developers, did they take that stuff out to put something else in that is new in RR7 or did they just not want to make it flashy since RR needs better gameplay anygay.
Ridge Racer 7 was always a falcity of a title anyways, Sony fans don't like missing out on anything, so if RR7 didn't contain most of the RR6 content they'd be up in arms. I never expected RR7 to be anything more than RR6.25... However I am surprised that the graphics and polycount are actually worse than the 360 version, thats just sloppy code optimisation.
It'd be funny if the programmers are 360 fanboys. :lolz:Quote:

Ahh well, they both still look nice though. I guess you can't really expect much from a rushed launch game lol.
lol yeah :lolz: Unlikely though I think Namco are in bed with Sony, at least until Son'y's consoles stop selling. This game could have been far better than it is with 6 months or so work - it's Sony's fault for rushing things for the sake of Blu-ray, not Namco, or the console itself.Quote:

I understand that the PS3 and 360 are roughtly comparable in terms of horsepower, with the 360 having a sightly more powerful GPU and the PS3 having a slightly more powerful CPU, but I figured Namco would really go "all out" for the PS3 title and produce something more awe-inspiring than RR6 on 360. I mean, I enjoyed RR6 a great deal, but it certainly wasn't particularly impressive graphically, even for a first-gen 360 title.
Eh. On the splitscreen comparison shot of the harbor, I like the 360 version better, but on the fullscreen shots

versus 360

...I think the PS3 version looks much better. In that 360 shot, the water detail works against it, for one thing.
Its a matter of taste I guess, but the colours, lighting and clarity on the PS3 version are far worse in my opinion. The only good thing is the slightly closer camera angle, which I prefer.
You realize that I hate you. I hate you for making me want a PS3. I wasn't even going to look at the link because I'd convinced myself that I was completely uninterested in the new systems. But no. You had to go and inline them.Quote:

I'll agree that the 360 graphics have a little more flash to them but I think that's because of the higher contrast. The PS3 version is much more subtle and real looking, IMO.
These are a total academic push. I don't think the average person could pick those two apart besides the obvious difference in the displays. You could compare something like Resistance and Gears of War, but even that is disingenuous because one's a launch title and the other is an early second-gen/late first-gen title.
Gonna be a while before we have something that really shows off the PS3...I don't think its fair to judge from this...not enough to go on.
That was my feeling, as well. The 360 contrast is pumped up too high, and the trees in the midground and background are way, way too dark. And the PS3 water looks like water would from that distance, while the 360 version has a generic water texture that is way too large for the distance it's supposed to be at.Quote:

not a problem of the console
Also DirectX10 water in Flight Simulator X is quite better:

Even the DirectX9 version of it looks better than ridge racer's:

So no problem of the console, just the developer

First of all, I want to say that I love RR6. I know, nobody likes it, but I really love the game.
Now, with that said, what shocks me most about this thread is how much stuff they took from 6. I mean, why not call it Ridge Racer 6.5? It's not a new game at all. WTF?
Why are all the PS3 screens lighter than the Xbox 360's? Weird.
RR6 and RR7 look exactly the same minus some minute differences. though i cant tell if its distance blur or just blurry textures in the ps3 version.
but the ps3 water does look better.
RR6 runs at 1080p too.
or did you miss that feature from the fall update.;)
dont forget that resistance doesnt run in 1080p where as gears of war does.
Yeah, it is. See, that's what I was expecting next gen consoles to be doing. I mean, obviously they can't... but my feeling was that if they were going to bother going to new hardware, that is about the level of quality jump that would have made it feel justified to me. The jump in quality between NES and SNES was huge. Between SNES and PS1 was huge. Between PS1 and PS2, the gap starts to shorten. And at the rate of progress we're at now, we'll be lucky to get the quality level of that DirectX10 shot somewhere around Playstation 7.Quote:

The water texture in the ps3 shot does look more realistic in terms of distance. Water doesn't look so choppy from far away it looks like a flat surface.
The same people who care enough to point out every difference in the PS2 RE4 compared to the GC RE4, I'd imagine (all while wanking with one hand and circling images on a tablet with the other).Quote:

I mean, come on, I'm buying a $5/600 system for this? Surely, there must be more to Ridge Racer 7 for it to be getting the reviews its had so far.

You're right. They gave RR6 35/40, just one point less than 7. Still, it has been a year, people. Surely there must be something really great about 7 that I'm missing for it to have gotten the response so far. People said good things in the PS3 impressions thread too.Quote:

you guys are dumb.
the ps3 has atmosphere.
and both of them apparently don't have antialiasing.
The PS3 also hovers, forgot to mention that.
Those screenshots circling the small details are amusing. If you are looking at those things while trying to drive a car at high speeds then you're not really playing the game.
I agree with whomever said its personal taste, I prefer the darker 360 shot versus the bright ps3, just seems too washed out to me.
It can also run on neckblood.Quote:

Or the series is under-appreciated outside Japan. Maybe they're right.Quote:

360s gpu outclasses the ps3s by a decent amount. i blame the differences in the screen shots on the fact that theyre off screen pics, and rr7 is coming out a year later. it better look better.
lol.Quote:
