Gears of War is amazing

Sorry, but I had to make a new topic, DashK. This game is freaking fantastic. I bought it and took it home last night at 9:30, and played it 'till 2 in the morning. I have a short attention span, and games I love will usually only last me about an hour or so tops.... but this game just grabbed me. I played single player, then online co op with a friend, then did some multi player. All of which was amazing. I suggest anyone with a 360 should get this game asap.

To add to what I love about it. Besides the amazing graphics and sound, of course. I will say the play control does take time to get into. About 45 minutes or so? Getting in and out of cover took a while to get used to since it feels like an FPS, but it's not quite. No loading, too. No more loading screens like Halo... just keeps loading and loading, with no hitches in the gameplay (again, like Halo would do mini loads, but you don't see stuff like that here). Everythign about this game's amzing. Great atmosphere and action.

IGN and Gamespot are giving the game a proper fellatio.

Not that I really care what they have to say, but from their reviews, it's seeming to live up to the hype.

I'll be snagging my copy before I go to work, so unfortunately, I won't be getting the chance to play it until midnight.

If you think those score are high, Play magazine and 1up.com both gave Gears of War a perfect 10.

does it have page tears when you move the camera? I swear to God that drives me up the wall with the xbox games.

in this day in age, when crappy overhyped games get such high scores, Gears definitely deserves any 10's it gets. If fucking ridge racer 7 for a 36/40 from famitsu then gears is a 50/40

I reserved a copy of the LE at EB, which "due to a shipping error" they wont have until tomarrow. :(

It was a real downer too, because they had about 30 of the regular version sitting in a pile.

Every store by me is getting the collector's edition tomorrow.

This game is a system seller for x360. It makes you say, "Halo wtf is Halo?", and make you forget about any other game that you currently are playing. The graphics, music, and AI is supurb and the game completely lives upto the hype. If you like FPS at all on consoles this should be you game of the century. Co-op is mind blowingly fun and makes it un-fun to play with out a friend. Forget living up to the hype, as far as I am conserned there was not enough hyoe for how amazing this game is. Once you play, and get a handle on the controls(which takes a bit to get use to the cover system, but is close to GRAW, but much much more refined), you will never look at another FPS again, honestly its that damn good. Co-op on GoW will change the way we play together online.

Edit: My EB got the Collectors edition in yesterday at 12cst, I went to pick up GH2 cus I was told that GoW:CE would be in on the 8th, but it arrived, and I got to get my CE yesterday...But get this, the GoW:standard edition was no where to be found. They shipped Viva Pinata instead which isnt even supposed to be out yet, so ALL the GoW:SE people where fucking pissed off.

I read something about Fed Ex not picking the game up? It sounds like a lot of places East did not get the game due to the error.

Happened to me too. We went down to EB to get our copies and they called my co-workers cell the minute we got to the store parking lot. I'm not thrilled, but they're offering $5 off the game tomorrow to keep people from buying it elsewhere.

$5 is really not very much for the trouble. I mean, these are people that visited the store once to put a pre order on the game and then drove back over to pick it up. For a fuck up like this, they really should take 20% off the game or give a free strategy guide or something. Gamestop/EB is a game store and they should have the game before other stores or at least at the same time.

Goddamn EB Games. I just called the one where my LE is reserved, and no go there, either. Coming in tomorrow. Well, given that the Circuit City just down the road a few miles from me will actually have the damn thing today, I'll be buying it there, instead.

That's two reserves in a row now that EB will be refunding me on- first CC beat their price on FF XII by $12, now this.

Yesterday I had already recieve my copy of GoW:CE, and around 3pm I got a automated call from EB saying sorry but my game wouldn't be available to be picked up untill the 8th(today), then just 10 minutes ago I got another call saying sorry that it would not arrive till some EB's till the 9th and that I should check with my EB to check. I wonder who fucked this up EB or the shipper? That fucking sucks, I'm glad I got my copy w/out a hitch.

i just ordered:

1. xbox 360
2. gears of war
3. extra wireless controller
4. quick charger

that's it for me. NO MORE GAMES THIS YEAR. i'm going broke.

You mean when VSYNC is disabled? Most developers don't enable VSYNC nowadays.

I heard from a manager friend that the fuck-up was on Fed-Ex's end. It wouldn't be the first time. And I am tempted to go buy it elsewhere, but I don't think it's EB's fault this time around.

I found it today at best buy. Great game but the A as everything sucks during the first boss fight. Fucking beserker:crying: I wouldn't give it a perfect 10 but it is awesome.

Edit-I stopped at Gamestop to see if they had here but Fedex fucked them too. They had CoD3 though.

That's what they told me back when Oblivion came out- they got that in a day late, too ("Fedex's fault! We swear!").

Of course, I bought the CE at Best Buy and got my deposit back from EB.

The really amazing thing, however, was that they tried to pass that off as a GOOD reason to reserve games in the future when the manager was making his "you should reserve some shit" spiel to some random customer:

"See, it not only guarantees you a copy of the most popular games that are hard to get when they come out, it also means that if a game has a problem in shipping, like Oblivion did, you'll be one of the very first people to get it once the problem is fixed."

I almost fell over laughing right there in the store.

I also have Crackdown reserved there, but I think I'll cancel it. Probably just have shipping problems with it, too.

GOW seems to popular enough to have had a midnight release. I mean with the hype and the great reviews. That being said, a game company like EB/Gamestop should have had the game in early to sell it on time. There are a lot of big releases that are at the store day(s) prior to the release.

Also a lot of people trade in their games to get things like GOW, so even if they want to cancel the game, they would get a credit back and not the money they would need to buy the game else where.

I just think with the big push EB/Gamestop makes to pre order to make sure you get a copy, they should be doing something more than taking $5 off the game. I mean $5 dollars is maybe the tax on this game.

Anyone try it on live yet? How is it?

Funny thing is .... Fed Ex never FORGETS to pick anything up. When Fed Ex and UPS arrive at pickup destinations, their items are already set to the side. The driver backs into the dock to make the pickup. Everything from that company that the courier is supposed to take is set in (1) specific area with a tag on it with the couriers name (ie...UPS/Fed Ex/ Airborne Express..etc).

The only way they wouldnt have picked it up would have been if the item in question wasn't put out (or the wrong item was put out). Which seems to explain why stores have Viva Pinata instead of GOW:CE . EB/Gamestop has a unique way of always pointing the finger at someone else for their fuckups. It's easy to blame FedEx since none of the customers are going to call FedEx and demand explanations.

Pre Ordering is becoming less and less attractive. I dont even beleive in the practice of it anymore. There is nothing that I NEED to have on release day. As in this case.... it just leads to disappointment and hard feelings.

i'm about 3 hours into SP, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say Gears is BETTER than Halo and Halo 2 single player, it's just amazing.

halo 3 has a lot to live up too (and not just for being the last game in a trilogy)

20% off is more than their profit on the game :P so what is the point of that. Also it was Fedex's fuck up. It sucks it happened to a friend of mine that I was with but shit happens.

coming from a halo fanboy, that's kinda crazy. i thought halo 2 campaign sucked, but halo was awesome. as soon as i finished it once, i started playing it again which is something i rarely do.

i've already got a buddy lined up for splitscreen co-op. i can't wait.

i've gotta finish ffxii this week before this comes or i may never finish it...

It probably puts it close to their cost and that is the least they can do for having people make two to three trips to get their game. As a business (they are the biggest game store out there) they should be willing to cut into their profit to better serve the customer.

As a manager for Target for years, I discounted stuff well below the cost if that is what it took to correct an issue for the customer.

So, I am not sure where you do business but I expect a little more. I got my copy of GOW and COD3 today but for those that didn't, $5 is a fucking joke.

The store where my reserve is isn't offering anything like that, though it wouldn't make any difference if they did. I'm not going to get it there, period.

I don't expect them to be willing to cut any more than that off the price, but they have to accept the fact that this kind of issue, regardless of where the fault lies, will cost them a ton of sales.

As a matter of fact, yes. It's really great. Played a friend co op, and it was perfect. No lag. I had him join a game I was in the middle of, which is a great idea. I don't know of any other game you can be in the middle of a single player game, see a friend get online, and say "join my game I'm in the middle of"... they join like an agent in the matrix. They just take over one of your squad members and you keep going without a hitch! lol, it's great.

The death match lag isn't there, either. It kills me how a game of Street Fighter or Lumines can lag like a bitch, but this game... I dont' know if they hide it in the net code or what, but there seems to be zero lag. However they do it, who cares. Of course, games are limited to 8 player. If you like counter strike, you'll like this.

That will be all you need.....till Rainbow Six:Vegas hits. DL the RB6:V demo from XBL and once you play that you will be hooked as well. Welcome to 360, tag is Methionine, co-op in GoW is simply amazing, try to get Co-op started right off the bat and play at hardcore setting, it's a beautiful thing.

I'm not signing into Live tonight. I don't want to see all the people on my friends list playing it while I cannot. :mad:

Just picked up the LE from good old WalMart about 20min ago. Got to wait till my son gets his homework done to play it or he will be stuck in the game room with me for the rest of the night. LOL!!!

I picked up the non LE yesterday at EB.

Not sure why all these other EB's are having problems.

I called Walmart and Target and they both told me the game isn't coming out until Sunday. Best Buy had shit as well.

Oh well, more GHII tonight I suppose.
