next week i was planning to get me a toshiba hd dvd player but starting today i started lookin at the 360 an now im stuck i dont know which one to get im a gamer an a movie buff
hd dvd player+enter the dragon hd dvd=godly!
but i need your advice what would you go with and why?
your advice is greatly appreciated
Xbox 360, and buy the hd-dvd addon when it comes out.

360, you can do more with it, plus you'll be glad you have one this fall when some awesome games hit (like gears of war).
Plus, when the HDDVD add on comes out, you could pick that up and have both.
That way if HDDVD ends up failing, you won't be out 500 bucks. The 360 add on should be 199 or so.

I would never pay money for a 360...then again im a Microsoft hater/Sony whore....the HD-A1 is a pretty badass DVD player however tops out at 720p. Toshiba does have the 1080p model but at $999...so now your getting up into the Blu-Ray price range which is ri-god-damn-diculous....the HD video playback on XBOX 360 will most likely be sub par. We shall see....I think the HD-A1 is worth the cash but then again I'm a videophile...
Who really thinks the hddvd playback on the 360 is really going to be worth a shit?... I certainly don't. Plus you know for sure MS is planning to use the HD discs for games. I just read the Metal Gear guy talking about how MG4 would NEVER fit on a dvd and the only way to fit all the content onto a disc would be to use bluray. Now, I don't know if that was just a plug for Sony, but you can bet GTA4 will also be on Bluray becase the textures are going to be way too large to fit on a dvd. Since GTA4 will also be coming out for 360, how do you think they plan to package it? As 4 dvds? I think not. I'll be waiting for the hddvd packin.
How are they going to deal with HDCP on hddvd for the 360?
Modded Xbox w/ XBMC & regular dvds upscaled uh?

With the 360, I just press a button, and I'm gaming. Hell, my 360 is working right now and I'm not even in the same room ( downloading Galaga, table tennis demo, and that apocalypto(?) movie trailer in HD.
I guess another "complaint" about the system is that many of the games have esentially infinite replay value. With the online component, games like PGR3 can be played essentially forever. Oblivion would be tough to say you've done everything as well.
Basically, its a system where its first year's worth of releases could keep me entertained for the next five years. That's why I say even if no more games come out, I'm good for a while.
That HD-DVD unit has a not-so-good track record from what I heard.

I had the same problem 3 weeks ago and decided on the 360.
While I've been more of a videophile than a gamer this past year, the problem is the cost of HD movies. Now that so many DVD movies are super cheap, being offered at 4 for $20 and so on, it's hard to cough up $25 for a movie that's 3 years old.
I decided on the 360 instead. I can still enjoy DVD movies in 480p and the 360 gives me 1080i gaming.
I would pick up the HD DVD player and wait till Gears of War comes out for the 360 to grab one. I have both but my Toshiba gets more use then my 360 does. Plus isn't there a 360 bundle coming that has PGR3 with it for free? I'd wait to grab the 360 with that. Also EtD does look great on it and it upconverts beautifully.

For those not mentioned...
If you like Tennis, Topspin 2 is also a very good pickup. Just note that depending on your character setup, the career mode can have an initial learning curve. However, it plays a mean game and eventually gets a lot more technical than the first. Very satisfying. The only bad is that the load times are a little long for my liking.
For snowboarding, definitely look up Amped 3. The latest SSX was a bit of a disappointment; but Amped 3 really turned it out. It ranks as one of the best, if not most inventive use of a snowboarding license. Its humor is way out there, but it does so much, so well. It has the easiest controls of the series, but it keeps the technical stuff as well. Kind of like Sega's Outrun 2; it focuses on fun and pretty much does everything to eliminate all things that are *less* fun.
Those denying games like Condemned and PGR3 are just plain haters, there's no other excuse. An undeniable good game is an undeniable good game. Oh, and folks, I have my Ferarri achievement. Now to track down the Lambos.

I'm still trying to find out what these 'other' good apps, that are out there, that really make the other 'up-n-coming' consoles any better. I really don't see any. And I think I find it funny some of the choices some go to play and somehow think they are better than all that were listed. Seriously, the obvious hating has to either stop, or you just have to accept that people have thier own tastes.

Someone wanted to know what cool games they would like to play on a system. It doesn't have to turn into a freakin war every freakin' time. This crap is insanity. It's not even gaming. It's just plain poor.
You know what would impress me, it would be to take the time one takes to constantly take stabs on every game that's on some console you chose not to like, and simply talk up the good stuff to come. It would seem a lot more mature, and who knows? You might get more 'converts' that way. Not that they would give up something they like, but they would be more likely to try that stuff, give it a whirl, and not miss out.
