Okay, I played GGX a few years ago. I thought it was pretty good. I bought GGX2 # Reload last night... I don't quite care for it. I LOVE fighting games, but this just isn't a fighter, more just a lot of shit going on. Animation is better than I remember, and the graphics are fine, but I just can't get into the insane amount of junk going on. I love pretty much all fighters, 2d and 3d, but this one? Meh... anyone else, or am I an idiot?
I think it's just a matter of preference. I wasn't much for GG at first, but after I got into the mechanics (as insane as they are) it became more fun. It's not my favorite fighter, but it's got some good mechanics and nice graphic detail. Kinda like the difference between VF4 and DOA. They're both good 3D fighters, VF4 is just more involving and intricate.Quote:

Gotta agree with Eddie on this one. You really have to practice this game to get the mechanics down. I've heard a lot of folks complain that it's just random button mashing but that could not be farther from the truth. You can search for some insane combo vids that just look like you button mash someone into the corner but it takes skill to make all that crap connect since most people know when to break out of their stun. Watching two people who know what their doing is an awesome sight. Go and download the evo final vids from last year and you'll see what I mean. Or come to Otakon(shameless plug) and watch the tourney there. The last 4 fights are always nailbiters to see who wins.
I like it just fine. Aside from being the only series where I actually care enough to play everyone, I don't think it's hard (well, it's not for me, but this might have something to do with the fact that I don't use keyboard notation). If anything, a difficult game with random crap going on all over the place to me is MvC2, which I can't be bothered to compete in.
good eye candy....fun to watch someone who likes it more than me plays. But I couldn't get into it to save my life
I hear it's fun for 2 players... Wish I had friends...
Playing the Comp sucks tho.....

For me, it has all the insane aerial circus action I sorta liked about the Capcom VS games...but with physics I actually like. Hey, it's one more deep fighter for people to sink their teeth into, in an age where such things are less and less common. At least Playmore's getting their act together with KoFXI and SST...perhaps a new rivalry will spark, or better yet Capcom will get back into the game (wishful thinking, I know).

GGXX:R is my favorite fighter.
At first, it feels like a mindless button masher and that'll work against the CPU or other non skilled players. But, the gameplay is very complex and deep and you'll need to master the odds and ins to have a chance against other good players.
A friend of a friend kept telling me how great he was at it, I learned the dude didn't even know there's two types of blocks. In fact, he didn't know about 25% of the controls.
It's a 2P must game to take advantage of what all you can do.
Not a huge fan - but I haven't given up on it.
Mostly I just have a few GG games in my collection for completeness. :kekeke:

I had fun with the dreamcast version back in the day, never played any after that, they all look the same.
the game SUCKS playing alone, and it sucks playing against someone who doesn't know how to play, and I can't say i've met more than 1-2 people who could play it competetivly either, but that can be said about most fighters that aren't tekken or mortal kombat.
honestly most of my fun came in training mode making combo videos, sad but true.
See, I thought so too a long time ago. So why, now, do I think it's not so bad? The new characters, perhaps? You have to keep in mind I play TS every fucking day, and I still think GGX isn't bad in animation. Yes. I haven't met one I've liked. And I've always wondered why the hell its so popular. Guilty Gear has been on the cover of Arcadia more than any other game, series, or character combined, I'd imagine.

I have the PSX original & GGX on Dreamcast which I think are good fun games with some nice music, I wouldnt take them seriously ( would i any game?).
I like the story how the original designers were rock fans who made a game for that reason....

That is NOT a good example of good animation. That one never sat right with me. I think Slayer and Zappa have okay animation. A lot of it IS clunky, like what you've just shown us. In this regard, Third Strike walks all over GG.Quote:

I hate, HATE this God damn game. The button layout is retarded. Gameplay is akward. A casual gamer cant pick up this game and play. You have to do hours of research to have any fun. sucks as much as the Dragon Ball Z fighters. Fuck this game, I'd rather stick to Samsho 2 or Last Blade 2.
I personally enjoy the Guilty Gear series a great deal.
As stated several times before, you really gotta get the mechanics down to get anything out of it. It's one of the reasons why I enjoy the game so much. It's challenging. And yes, it's far from a button masher. You gotta think on your feet in order to come out on top.
That and the story is fucking phenomenal. And as a metal head the soundtrack blows me away.

I have only played the psx original (which sucked beyond words) and GGXX slash for ps2. It's alright I guess...I haven't given it much playtime though.

I only played the original GG on the PS One and got tired of getting owned constantly by rushing attacks that either broke my guard or outprioritized my counter-attacks, getting hit with multiple instant kill moves and getting blasted by a truckload of attacks that never left my opponent open when they were blocked or completely missed.
Haven't bothered with the rest of the games seeing how disappointed I was with the first game.

As many have already stated, the game's mechanics are something that you need to take the time to understand. Practice makes perfect. It's a matter of dedicating time if you want to learn.
The music in the game really fits the environment and the musicians are more than talented.
If you have the option, give XX#Slash a try. The game has been 100% rebalanced.
Conclusion: Love it or hate it, it's hard to not acknowledge it's presence. Guilty Gear is by far the most popular 2D fighter in years to hit the streets of Japan. Once you get to the point that you're confident you don't suck, it very hard to not be able to find competetion. In the end, I feel that's what fighting games are all about.

I tried to like/enjoy it, but I didn't find it easily accessible, sure, a lot of fighters aren't accessible from day one. but after a while I felt I had no desire to learn.
plus the whole 'theme' of the game grated against me, the music, the title screen, the intro, the pre fight bits, the after fight bits, the artwork, the sound effects, the characters, the characters moves. None of it attracted me in the slightest.
