I think Metroid for the NES was pretty hard because every time you died, you have to start from the beginning. Also, Battletoads was pretty hard. Lastly, I can never beat World Heroes 2 on the Neo for anything. I was get my ass handed to me, around 3rd or 4th fight.
Ghosts and Goblins. I can't even finish it with codes
Three games that I found very hard:
Assault Suits Leynos (MD) - Tried it multiple times to finish it but gave up on it after a few months... it's still on my must-beat list, tho.
Gaplus (arcade) - heh, I love this game a lot and still play it but the later (reverse-scrolling) levels with all those high-speed dive attacks are simply insane.
Rayxanber 2 (PCE) - Very good looking hori shmup with cool bosses and nice atmosphere overall, but the difficulty level is out of this world. Gives the word "frustration" a totally new meaning. I read about the game and its difficulty on ng.com and other bbs's before and always thought people would exaggerate a bit, but they were right - calling this came "difficult" is an understatement.
No kidding...after the third bonus stage, all hell breaks loose on that game. Ships are coming in at high speed and then the ones you shoot release white globs that have to be avoided on top of that. Kinds of gets hopeless right about that point :crying:Quote:

Transformers Convoy no Nazo for Famicom.
Easily the hardest game ever. One hit and you're dead, enemy shots blend in with background and make for easy deaths and transforming takes a while and also calls for cheap deaths.
I have never even beat the first level in this game and I've been trying to play it for a God awful amount of time.
Tatsujin Ou is also a bitch. I have it on the Marty and I can't beat the second friggin' level (though I shall never purport to be of BBH-caliber or something). The levels are quite long, that's what gets me in that game.Quote:

Not sure what the hardest one was that I've played, but the hardest I've beaten was Ninja Gaiden (xbox) on Hard.

Yeah, those 2 bat demons at the end of level 6 are fucking hard. And memorization only gets you so far, those Ghost Burrito motherfuckers pop out semi-randomly.
Ditto, and it took me awhile to figure out how to avoid those falling fireball/rocks on the final boss. Pause it right when they start to fall to find the safe spot to stand.Quote:

A friend of mine is able to beat the ghost 'n goblins/ghouls and ghost games. He could never beat the second loop on the NES version though. I have seen him beat the shit out of the SNES one as well. He made the last boss look like a joke. So yeah the fucking kid is really good at games. He's also able to get that XS rank or whatever it is in 3S on 8 difficulty in just about every match against the computer.
Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox is probably one of the harder games to come out this generation. But its still not insane like some of the old school games are. I have beaten Ninja Gaiden Black on very hard. And was on my way to beat Master Ninja mode till I got distracted with some other games.
I'm not sure this falls under the category of hard, but Blaster Master for nes was a real pain. Mainly because you had to find the entrances to all the boards. The entrance for one board could be in an actual board or the overworld. And to top it off, no passwords. So you had to beat it in one excruiatingly long sitting.
I remember when I finally beat it I recorded the ending. There used to be rumors about the ending so I had to beat it to find out what happened.

Mega Man 1- There are no words to describe how enfuriating this game is. It's simply just a bastard child of action adventure platforming and remding myself of the assanine difficulty level is depressing enough as it is.

Ghosts N' Goblins is always the first that comes to mind for me as well. Same for the series really.
More recently would be Ninja Gaiden for Xbox.
Not many games are too hard now-a-days. Well, sans shooters. But that's the hardest genre of games, so...

I dunno, the Ghosts & Goblins series are hard, but fun hard. I got into it when I bought Super Ghouls and Ghosts for GBA, with the save ability (making it good for people without as much time), I got through the game (twice, of course) in about a week of on and off playing. When I got the Capcom Classics, I beat Ghosts and Goblins the first time but then wasn't in the mood to do it again the 2nd time in one sitting.
[I have never really got the whole "fun" in either the MegaMan series or Castlevania... so to me they're hard because I struggle to give a damn. I know that's heresy to some people, but it's how I roll]

Also, Tatsujin has some of the most memorable music in an arcade game that I can think of. I can still recall the music from level 1 now, and I haven't played the game for years.

Deadly Towers for the NES. The game is filled with cheap deaths galore. The damn bats knock you off the path and you fall to your death every 5 seconds. I finally beat this game years later with emus and save states. I don't think it's possible any other way.

Haha, I don't know why, but I used to play this game all of the time. I guess it was the semi-twitch gameplay and the gimmicky mini-games every time you got to a certain part of town. The guitar one at the prom was the most fun. I got so good at the game that I could beat it without dying.Quote:

Honestly I did beat the SNES version of Gradius III but it took me a long time to complete the game. R-Type Delta was a hard shooter game but I managed to beat it. :cool:
