Probably a beaten to death subject but I wanna know.
What game do still play to this day that keeps you entertained for hours on end?

KoF series.
The only game that I can easily get into again even after trying to "quit" video games.
That's not the same question as the thread's title.Quote:

Conversely, Halo 2 is the one game I still play to this day and keeps me entertained for hours on end, but it is not my favorite game of all time.
There's very few games I play all the time, but Samurai Shodown II still feels as fresh as it did the first day I played it.
I have several actually...
Gunstar Heroes
Bare Knuckle II
Contra (Famicom ver.)
LSA SQUAD
River City Ransom
Double Dragon II (Arcade & PCE ver.)
Shock Troopers
KOF 2002
P.O.W. ~Prisoners of War~
Snoopy & The Red Baron
Operation Code: VAPOR TRAIL
Advanced Busterhawk GLEYLANCER
Blazing Star
Rolling Thunder 2
RAMBO III (Mega Drive ver + Arcade)
Super Mario RPG is up there for me, beaten it a few times now, English and Japanese :\
Alex Kidd in Miracle World :buttrock:
For some reason the original Dungeon Keeper sticks with me.
I couldn't tell you though what my all-time fave is. If someone studied me for a documentary over the years, they would guess my favorite game of all time is Doom, as its probably been played and bought more than any other game.
Runner ups:
Splatterhouse
Ys 1 and 2
Planescape Torment
Batrider
I don't play it very often, but Final Fantasy VI is probably my favorite game of all time.
Jet Set Fuckin' Radio.
My fave game since i first played it five years ago or something.
No fucking doubt the finest game man has ever created.
Apart from Jet Grind Radio, but i haven't had the awesome fortune to play it yet :(
i could waste days on Front Mission Alternative... but i think i'm the only one :p
That's simple - Wonder Boy and KoF.
Panzer Dragoon Saga!
But like the guy about said, i also dont play it at all anymore.
so.....Sega Rally p'haps........Download on PC Engine? Who knows.

Playing it on the SFA Anthology made me realise just how perfect that game is!
If I had to pick one, it would be between LttP and MD3.
I still have to go with LttP.
Why would you not play your favorite game at all, that makes no sense dude.Quote:

Jet Grind Radio. Yup.
Me and soulthug always have the same answer in these threads.
Just because you like a game doesn't mean you have to play it all the time. And just because you play a game a lot doesn't mean it's your favorite game.Quote:

Games like Halo 2 I continue to play because you can get in quick multiplayer games against your friends every so often.
I know what you mean dude I'm not arguing that, I just wanted to know why you dont play it anymore.Quote:

Ai Cho Anik- :emb: - wait, I meant to say Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams. Born from a Wish makes it more interesting than the original. That narrowly edges out Panzer Dragoon Saga, Xenosaga Ep. 1, and Metal Slug.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PS1.
i can play that game over and over again.
REZ
OutRun2
Final Fantasy IV. It's one of the few games that I can still play even though I've beaten it over 20 times. The music is just too awesome.

Ocarina of Time
Jet Set Radio
World of Warcraft (even though I plan on never playing it again, way too adictive)
Probably Link's awakening for the original gameboy. there are several out there, but this one was really great for the system it was on.
One of life's more difficult questions to answer...
Single-player: Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
Multi-player: Super Smash Bros. (N64)
Something like that.
Real Bout 2, without a doubt, although Fatal Fury 2 is a close runner up.
Other honorable mentions to go the original Samurai Shodown and Breakers Revenge.
I find I really don't play games that much anymore, so when I do I prefer the quick "pick-up-'n'-play" format of arcade titles more than anything else (which means that I've gotten more bang-for-the-buck out of the Neo than any other console I've ever owned).
I loved chrono trigger to death back in the snes day. On Playstation. It's a close tie between tactics ogre and FFT.
FAVORITE GAME: Without a doubt, it would have to be Counterstrike PC (betas). I don't ever think that I've spent so much time trying to get good at every aspect of a game, every map, every gun, every strat, as I have with this game. It is also the last time I recall that a game actually brought out intense feelings of anxiety and excitement packed with adreneline. Being that last CT up with the bomb ticking, facing off against 3 terrorists...every dead person watching your every move...pure bliss. I LOVE IT! Of course it all went to hell when the betas stopped and release came, but I digress...
REALLY CLOSE 2nd: WoW - WoW has sucked my life away and I still gladly play $15.00 a month for it.
3rd: Street Fighter: Third Strike - This game is so deep that it's stupid.
4th: Numan Athletics - Nobody can touch me on this game, and that's why I like it!
Star Control II (3D0)!!!!
SUPER MELEE!
i still love this game, and try to play it whenever i get the chance. no one around here to destroy.. er, i mean play against in supermelee though.
Honorable mentions to Samurai Spirits II, and Virtua Fighter 2/4
Ys 1&2
Contra/Famicom
Dracula X
SS2
The Legend of Zelda
SMB3
Bonks Adventure
PSO it's the only online game i've spent the most time on.
Btw looking forward to psu in oct.
Marathon Infinity, and the Marathon trilogy as a whole.
NiGHTS into Dreams. There is no substitute.
Ghouls n ghosts
Double Dragon
how can you answer that question, really ?
it's just not possible
it would have to be any of the mario's on the NES :buttrock:
Final Fantasy X.......for some reason that game grabbed me like no other. Back when I was laid off from the trade I spent a week straight destroying the game. My wife would leave for work and as soon as she left, the PS2 came on. I would play until she got home. Most of the time I didn't even stop to eat.
What an amazing game.
ICO.
Best game ever made.
But I agree with Fran, so hard to choose.
Other favorites:
JET SET RADIO!
Panzer Dragoon Zwei (best on rails shooter evah!?!_
Rez
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Super Mario RPG
Is actually is quite simple for me for some reasons.Quote:

There are two questions actually:
My favorite game of all time: FFVII, plain and simple.
The game I'm still playing and envoying every pixel of: Samurai Shodown 3
Chrono Trigger. This is how videogames are meant to be
Goldeneye 64
Some of the greatest times ever playing multiplayer.
I miss those times. :(
It would be hard to pick a number one videogame of all time. But it would make it easier by picking the top spot out of every genre, and then having those match up against eachother. :)
AgreedQuote:

To this day I can go back and play those 2 incarnations of SF 2 and spend hours with them.
Anything Metal Slug ( except the new 3D version ).
I was going to take a wild guess and say Einhander is your favorite gameQuote:

For example, I used to think Secret of Mana was the best game ever made when I popped it into my SNES back in the day, but in reality the thing has a terrible translation, tons of glitches, and a completely broken/tedious battle system.
With that in mind, I'll take the coward's way out and say it's a tie between Grandia (PS1) and Soul Calibur (DC). As far as Grandia's concerned, it's absolutely amazing to play an RPG where the characters aren't a bunch of apathetic, angst-ridden losers stuck in a perpetual pitty parade. The battle system's the best of any traditional RPG I've ever played by a mile, the music is terrific, the graphics are inspired and the characters engaging. It simply personifies quality.
Soul Calibur's the same story. Wouldn't it be wonderful if every game had the same amount of attention to detail as this one? From the seemingly hundreds of unlockable extras to the stuff that's just plain fun to tinker around with (like the opening movie), it's a grand slam and the absolute pinnacle of the series in several areas.
There's other games that I'd love to include that are equally deserving (FF6, FF4, LttP, SMW, Mega Man X, Yoshi's Island, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Strider, Capcom's D&D arcade titles, Soul Blade). There's another category of games that, while excellent overall, either have a significant flaw or several little ones (Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy Tactics, Syphony of the Night).
Zelda LttP with Dracula X at a close 2nd
