The ultimate computer case. I mean ULTIMATE!

The bottom half of the tower is a Mach II phase change cooling system, which for everyone else means it has a refrigeration unit that's powerful enough to cool a large refrigerator. This model is only to cool your cpu, but there is a company that modifies them to support two video cards for crossfire and SLi support.

Normal operating temperatures are between -50C and -20C depending on load and the heat coming off of the processor.

I'm planning to invest in one of these very soon and hopefully will be able to either a) have my neighbor modify it to work with a processor and two video cards, or b) buy a ready made version.

Back on topic, Gamejunkie that looks like it is paired with a Red Lian Li PC-60USB B2 Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case.

I know b/c I'm looking to build a new PC (after almost 4 years) and have decided on a minimalistic approach to a case, of which the Lian Li brand out of Taiwan is a premier designer and Mfgr of all-aluminum cases. If you don't know of them already, based on all I read, they are the finest cases money can buy if you dig the minimalistic and functional approach to a case.

While I'm not interested in refrigeration/watercooling, as I feel a Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu will do nicely without all the aggravation, that is one hot/cool rig there.

I use my PC for porn and email as well.

As far as gaming and tricking out your system, yeah, I used to be into that. I then got a job in the IT field and I have little to no interest in spending my free time doing what I do for a living. I made a hobby a living, but in doing so I no longer want to do it for fun. I get enough PC fixing during the day, so I can consider my job a big hobby that I perform 8-12 hours a day.

PC gaming lost all interest for me when I realized that I had more fun trying to make a game run than I did actually playing the game. I think I realized this while playing Soldier of Fortune. I spent so many hours fine tuning everything, had problems, fine tuned some more and then I finally got it working the way I wanted. I then lost interest in the game. Helps that the game wasn't really good anyway...

I used to fuck around and try to get DOS games running in XP, you know, the ones that don't like compatability mode? Well, after spending hours upon hours getting some of the Sierra classic adventures running, I found I didn't really even want to play the game. It was the challenge of getting it to work that got me going.

PC games these days are more about patch after patch to fix problems that should have been found before the game shipped. I remember one of the ID games, Quake 2 maybe, that if you bought a certain version it was unplayable out of the box without a patch. Fuck that.

Which is also why I hate ports of PC games to the X-Box, like Morrowind. I've heard many complaints of the game just randomly locking up. That tells me they pretty much just ported it over and only did 1/2 assed play testing on it. And if you want the game to really work? Buy the version with the add ons for another $50. Charging someone extra to make a game work properly is total bullshit.

This system is very quite compared to even slightly overclocked pc's using air. What's supper nice about this system is every aspect interfaces with software that lets you control it in real time. You guys just need to read the article because it does too much for me to explain. It's just amazing.

Really the only way for a pc to be completely silent would for it to completely passive, or that there would be no fans. I've been studying water cooling, water cooling with thermal chips, phase change, and air cooling systems...

Water seems like it would be nice and keep everything cool, but the truth is they can only lower the temp to a few degrees of ambient temp coming into the fans that blow across the radiator.

Water with peltier (thermal chips) is a much better solution but not near as nice as phase change. Plus once I buy all the parts needed for water + peltier I would be nearing the cost of this Mach II system. Well, not quite but it's one of those "I'm already spending this much" kind of things.

The only problem I'm running into is video card cooling... I'm not sure how to phase change cool the video cards and cpu at the same time. Still need to do more research on this. If I can't find a reasonable way to do this I'll still have to run water for the video cards. :(

Yeah, I've always liked Lian-Li cases but I really don't like them using 80mm fans... 120mm are just too nice.

Another member here (can't remember his name) has one of their most expensive models and loves it. His only gripe was that it ran pretty hot.

Have you seen their desk kits? It's an entire desk that houses your pc!

I'm planning to get into contact with the company that did the red case (see pic) about pricing. *gasp*

All that cool is fine and fucking dandy, but what about the real pc killer in my opinion: Dust.

Well, a car doesn't become obsolete in 3 months and in 20 years from now, your car will still run with everything of the day, people will respect it and it will still retain some value.

Though once on the screen savers they cooled a processor with liquid nitrogen. Basically they just poured the shit on top of the processor. It was awesome.

People that let dust build up inside their pc's are morons. I'm sorry but that's the truth.

Once I was at a lan party in a building that was being renovated and they were painting the other half of the building. Well, since they hadn't installed the dropped ceiling yet all that paint matter floated over into our laning area... We had to call the lan early for being nauseous and started up again over at someone's house. Later that morning I realised the entire inside of my pc was coverd in "white" dust that just happed to be paint. Now all those parts have little white specs all over them. :tickled:

This dude broke all three 3dMark records on a Liquid Nitrogen cooling system.

i really don't see what's cool or interesting about a big clunky box to slap onto the bottom of your computer. so it cools shit, so what? turn on the air conditioner if you want things cold, the computer will still work fine anyways.

I will admit though, while I think the cooling system on that is way overkill unless you're planning on some mad overclocking (or want a crazy stable system?), that case the cooler is sitting is sweet. I'm not a fan of windows though.

I'm actually wanting to run with at least a ghz overclock on a daily basis, which is very possible and being done with this setup.

I've hit a snag in my planned building too... I was planning on getting a certain Opteron processor that has turned out to be an awesome overclocker, but won't run below -20C. :(

Yep! That’s what I did. I used to build gaming PCs but got tired of having to upgrade every 9-12 months just to stay current. Couple that whit crap-ass Windows and I finally got tired of it. Now I have a Mac and life is good.

Look, to those of you with ill opinions(and you are granted them of course) about PC building/modding, I got something to say. People who build PC's have multiple reasons why they do it the way they do. Most of all, I think its because PC modders/builders love the modular nature of a PC, and it is in their psyche how they like all the circuit boards, specifications, and case styles to fit one's needs and preferences. Building a PC is arguably an artform. Some want wild looking cases, others prefer all-aluminum minimalization, others don't care, and will buy the cheapo $50 beige case with $300W PSU at some joint.

As for "Ultimate"... that word is showcased in this thread, but is it the naysayers knocking that? "Ultimate case" is an opinion, not a fact. Personally, I feel that the said case is a bit much but if one were a refrigeration/cooling enthusiast, it would be ultimate.

Building PCs is cheaper than getting a comparatively spec'd out model from the assorted gaming PC places too, and you know exactly what is inside it. On the other hand, paying more for a single video card than you would for an entire game console seems like highway robbery, and defies logic but its the passion behind it that keeps the wheel spinning.

you dont play games 100% of your computer usage, most people want CPU thermal throttling or cool n quiet, but you want 40GHz on the desktop.. sitting there.. idle, while you open control panel.

PC's should get turbo switches back. I know that the Asus A8N-SLI (for one) has CPU throttling, more mobos should support that. I mean Pocket PC's change CPU speed automatically to save power, shouldn't PC's too? Like Kernow said, what's the point in running a CPU at 3GHZ when all you need is < 1GHZ for other uses? Yes, PC gamers use their multi-thousand dollar PC's for more than just games. CAD tools, simulations, Office apps, email, multimedia.

Reminder to console fans; not a shot at you or anything... this is exactly why PC's make us PC types happy. They are "do everything" boxes.

I HATE big-ass PC cases. The ultimate to me is a tiny Shuttle case. The smaller the better. Some of the new ones have PCI express and 7.1 sound....so whats the point of these monstrosities?

I swear Kernow is the poorest mother fucker on the planet. He doesn't run linux to be l33t, he runs it because he can't afford the windows platform hardware.

That's what's nice about it, since the unit actually turns on and off your computer you can actually set warning and shutdown temps to control things.

I'm still trying to find a triple headed version of this for two video cards and a processor... too much homework atm. :mad:
