On October 16 I left Vancouver for Calgary, then went to Banff Springs/Banff to check out this beautiful ski resort destination. The following pictures are of beautiful Lake Louise, named after some England princess I believe. When an explorer, whose name escapes me, first came here, he was so completely taken in by the beauty of this glacial spring lake he dubbed it Lake Emerald.

The following are several pictures taken inside and outside on the balcony of the Fairmont Hotel at Banff Springs. This is a popular ski resort destination for the Europeans and the Japanese, but the wait for Europeans is far more painful I heard -- reservations are booked solidly until 2008 (I think). One of the Marilyn Monroe movies was filmed here at Banff Springs.

Didn't stay at this Fairmont, but did enjoy lunch and tea, and took a picture of these very unique-looking teapots from the Metropolitan Tea Company.

When people go hiking in Banff, they must travel in groups of at least 5 because of bears; not because 5 people can wrestle a bear and make it beg for mercy, but because the bear is more likely to stay away due to the size of the group.
Unlike Vancouver, which is comfortable all year round, it is pretty fecking cold in Calgary, and it is bloody freezing in Banff. Last beautiful picture of a waterfall I took, then I wanted to get the hell back into the van.

I missed all my opportunities to check out some poutine in Vancouver, Victoria, and Calgary, so I was not about to leave Canada without at least a taste test. Luckily, a passenger riding in my airport shuttle bus tells me that there is an A&W that serves poutine in the airport. Igniz told me about this poutine thang back in summer I think, and I was like, :spock: From his description of french fries covered with cheese and gravy, I had to wonder, how can this possibly be any good?
You can chalk me up as a believer after I finished the A&W poutine: absolutely delicious.
