WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!! THE ELECTION WORKED OUT GREAT!!!

Well, I had a big post a while back about voting no on 74, 75, and 76 in the special election in California.....and actually had a lot of people on this board telling me they should all pass.

Well, THEY ALL FAILED!!!!!!!

Teachers are better off, firemen are better off, nurses are better off, policemen are better off, and California is better off.

Me personally, I am LOVING IT!!!

Everything definitely worked out for the better for the people!

anyways...to those hating on teachers...

I agree with that. Mainly because anyone who's worked a shitty job has seen worse then any of those.(I hated shakeys, but it was a shame I dealt with for exactly less then two days)

anyway to stay on topic. I feel that there aren't alot of jobs worse than a Policeman or Teacher. Policemen get work 12 hour shits like nobody's business and Teaching is such a high stress job for too many reasons to list.

yesterday I was taking apart and putting together M16 guns, crawling in the wet gras and dirt(i got it in my mouth) and getting hit with the butt of a gun while holding a pad too thin to stop the pain from stinging my arm all the while freezing my ass off in this shitty cold ass German weather.

I would rather do any of that than become a teacher. Its too much responsibilty especially when you deal with elementary school age kids.

Wow. It's already cold in Germany. Actually, you're getting the weather I would be expecting to get in this part of America, right now. However, this year is a bit strange. Here it is, November 9th, and we haven't even seen weather below Room temperature, yet. Well, outside of maybe some rain cooling things off a bit, but still an average of 65-75 during the day hours. Normally, we'd have some 30-40 degree weather since October 31st. Maybe one little stretch of warm weather (for a day or two), sometime in the middle of November as an "Indian summer" thing. However, to go this far without a significant temperature drop outside of going from Summer hot to just plain comfortable, is highly unusual, in this area of the world.

I also doubt I have the patience to be a teacher, even though I'm fully trained to be able to be a music teacher; nor do I have that true self-inspired drive needed to actually want to be a police officer. You really have to aspire to be a cop to be one, especially these days.

It's been around 85 everyday this week. I am more pissed than I can express right now. We did get a week of temperatures around 50-60 two weeks ago though. I was so happy... :very_ang:

I'd have no problem with being a teacher other than being a disciplinarian. I just don't feel comfortable dealing out punishment for kids and motivating them. And I know if I'd teach English that's exactly how it would be, because we all know kids don't want to learn English and don't care. Plus you have to deal with behavior problems, not for me.

I'm an rn, and I fucking hate nurses. Every year they bargain for more and more, and wonder why the hospital has to cut corners on shit. Last contract they got more money for holidays, like a 5% raise, and more staffing (making their jobs easier). And you know what? THEY STILL PISS AND MOAN. Next time I have to listen some some old cunt bitch about how she has to do 10 more minutes worth of work more than the person next to her I'm gonna punch her in the neck and walk. Meanwhile, they can sit on the phone and talk for 2 hours, then take a break afterwards.

I've never worked with a such a disgraceful bunch of people in my life. I'd rather go back to working with the people at the outback. At least when they got an attitude, I could see why. $11 an hour for 10 hours with no breaks will make one a little edgy.

Honestly, did you even read what was written on the propositions? You cannot tell me you read them and made an educated opinion based on it. You've fallen prey to the scare tactics that the mass media and union leaders want you to believe.

Most of the props were good measures, and it's a shame they failed. Seriously, name any of the first 5 props, and give me one good reason why they shouldn't have passed.

Did the thought ever cross your mind that these 3-4 teachers are just not very good at their job? Or are at least not showing a level of profiency at this stage to suggest to the administration that they are worth keeping past a probationary period only to have to deal with all of the difficulties involved in firing a teacher who is now considered to have "tenure"?

Of course, but those rose colored glasses will only take you so far until the reality of what goes on within our administration and many others hits you dead in the face. They get laid off in this profession as well. It's just gone about it a different way.

People go to school for 5 1/2 years so they set up a future and life for themselves. Nobody wants to invest 5 years in a job and start over...and yes, that is stringing along because the hope of tenure and a future would have been dangling in front of them for 5 years.

What does 1950 have to do with anything? Are people supposed to bounce around from job to job because it's 2005? Have fun with that....

Yes there is tenure in cali. People just really don't understand it and think it's some "I will work here for life even if I am a horrible teacher" pass.

LOL! You're a fool. Again, someone who doesn't understand how teachers get paid. Also, what other job do people go to school for 5 1/2 years and get paid so little? No starting teachers get 50,000 starting. It's not even enough to buy a home around here.

Oh, and the process for getting a teacher fired after tenure is rarely used. A teacher in my district was moved from 2nd grade to a 6th grade class with 35 kids and 25 were boys. She had to turn in daily lesson plans to the principal and a had a handful of other duties that drove her to quit. That's how they get rid of teachers they don't want. They make their job so bad that they quit. There's no trial, no money paid, and no magical tenure or union rep that can come in and save them because these things are all legal. Most people don't know stuff like this goes on, so they say things like this kid above.

Again, you don't know what you are talking about. Enough defending teachers. It's time to get back to WOOOOHOOOO about the wonderful results :chimp:

after 5 years teachers easily break 50k a year. and they cant be fired. the teacher put in the "shit job" of teaching 30 kids so he or she "quits" isnt gonna happen. he or she is gonna do a shit job at teaching til they put him or her back where they want to go so the higher ups dont get their asses chewed out.

50k a year is pretty nice for 9 months. plus you get another 6 or so weeks off thanks to various holidays and vacations. pretty sweet! maybe i should go to school for a couple more years and be set for life.

The pay depends on the district. If you work in areas where housing etc is cheap, the pay will be lower. It's just high in the wealthier areas. Check teacher pay in Marin and then little rock california or something....there will be a big difference.

Who the hell gets 6 weeks off from hollidays during the year? 3 days for thanksgiving and 2 weeks for christmas. 1 for spring break. What? are vets day and pres day amounting to the other 2 1/2 imaginary weeks off? Also, you are on a 10 month schedule with summer trainings in there as well, and the summer is not paid.

People don't teach because they like the time off and they more then make up for it with long days. I put in 9-12 hours at school daily. I get there at 7am or earlier and don't leave until at least 5pm....or later depending on meetings and trainings.

Actually, the lady with the 35 kids and 25 of them being boys stuck it out for 2 years and then couldn't take it. Took them to court, lost, and then just gave up and quit. That really happened. I watched the final year, talked with the lady at union meetings, and watched the union reps bow down to the superintendent instead of sticking up for the teacher like they should. That happens when the administration has the union reps in their pocket.

You obviously know very little about what really goes on in schools. Someone who obviously has trouble understanding things as much as you would get chewed up and spit out by my class tis year. I think you're better off just sitting beind your computer and pretending you know something. People will say just about anything to avoid the thought that someone in the world today looks for a job where they can do something pos.

I thought Tenure meant that it was impossible to force you out unless you do something dangerous or illegal.

Anyways, I know California doesn't have that form of tenure. Despite what People think.
