N64 games suggestions?

I just bought my first Nintendo 64. I really hated the system, but I just recently realized that I am missing out on some really fun great games. I know there is a lot of garbage out there, but what are the best games for this system? I just picked up Mischief Makers and I am waiting for Sin and Punishment. What other good games are there for this system (domestic or import). Mind you, I have missed out on all the first party games for the N64. I never played Star Fox, Any of the Zeldas, Any of the Marios (Except Mario Cart 64), etc...

People have put down Perfect Dark and GoldenEye as 2 of the best FPS on the N64.

N64 isn't exactly brimming with quality games, but even though you already mentioned that you missed out on the Zeldas it's worth saying that OoT is fun as Hell.

Paper Mario….

Yep, that’s the only game for that garbage system that I can recommend.

Sin and Punishment. Absolutely the best game available. Good luck tracking it down, and expect to pay $75+ for it at this point.

Star Fox was fun, if a little easy.

Zelda OOT is kick ass, but if you have the emulated version for the GCN, there's no point in buying it.

Anyway, get Super Mario 64 right away. You are missing out if you don't put that at the top of your to get list. Diddy Kong Racing is also another enjoyable title you should look into. I suggest trying Star Soldier Vanishing earth, as I have been getting a kick out of that lately. And if you are into puzzle games, the bust-a-move's are both good, but nothing revolutionary.

That would have made you 6 when the N64 was released, thus the fact that it’s so great to you, you don’t know any better. I like Nintendo but the N64 is a pile of shit. Again, I stress paper Mario

Tetrisphere and Beetle Adventure Racing are all you need. The rest are junk (unless you like Resident Evil 2 with blurry FMV). I don't care for Mario/Zelda/etc, so if you like those, I suppose you would want them.

I liked the Castlevanias, but they're not for everybody. Million times more 'Castlevania' than the PS2 games, though.

Everything else can now be done better somewhere else. SF Rush was fun, but you can get it on a $20 compilation with a bunch of other Midway racers on any current console. Goldeneye was considered great for its time, but try finding 3 other people today who wouldn't rather play Halo or something. And that's if you don't hate FPS in the first place, the way I do. Banjo Kazooie is very good, but only if you're into cute animal 3D platformers.

I just saw your wanted thread, and realized I had completely forgotten about Conkers Bad Fur Day. This game is amazingly fun and hilarious. You need to play it to understand.

Although it kind of reads that way, I really did not mean to offend you. I’ve noticed that with many younger gamers the N64 is sort of a holy grail. My good buddy’s younger sister just got married and her husband (now 20) is a HUGE N64 fan. My buddy and myself just sat and shook our heads. To us the N64 was a gigantic disappointment following the SNES (in my opinion, the best system ever made). It’s all opinions though and our personal memories play a large role in that.

Excitebike 64 is sublime even for non motorbike fans. It really should have been updated on the Gamecube.

The difference between the NES and N64 is that more primitive sprite graphics age better than primitive polygons.

The SNES is probably more on par with todays generation of polygon graphics as it will always age well.

BINGO. Older “3-D” titles on the Saturn, N64 and PS1 are almost unplayable where as older 2-D title on systems like SNES, Genesis, TG-16 and the Neo Geo are still decent enough to play today. At least to me Mario 64 looks far more archaic than Super Mario World on the SNES.

one of the reasons i never got into the N64 was because of the lack of quality fighters/fighting games for the console.

The only reason I even pickup one was because I paid only $15 for it. I really hate the controller and the blurry graphics are an eye sore, but I belive every console has a handful of awesome/great games. Right now I am playing Mischeif Makers. IMHO, One of the best $5 games I have played in a long time. :) I played the hell out of Mario Kart on my cousin's N64. I have the Ganecube Zelda collection disks. Should I even bother with the two Zelda's. Does theN64's controller plays better than the Cube's?

Well yes you have a point, one must consider that machines such as Saturn, PSX & 3DO are to 3D graphics what the A2600 & Collecovision etc were to home 2D graphics in the day.

I don't agree tho that any of the games are unplayable, particularly 3d ones on *first gen 3d* consoles.

Mischief Makers has the best gameplay and graphics on the N64 and Treasure did an awesome! job making the game. You made a right choice in picking up Mischief Makers. I bought Mischief Makers when I saved up $60 to buy it at Toys R' Us. :D :cool:

Star Soldier may be the only true shooter on the N64 but that doesn't make it any good. :kekeke:

Majora's mask is pretty fun and worth a bit of your time.

You can also get the only Mortal Kombat game with female Khameleon

There's many many more that are great. Goldeneye, Mario Kart, StarFox, Ogre Battle 64, Fzero and Perfect Dark. So many great games on the N64, and so many people love dissing the system.... best system ever (G4?)... hell no, but still a great great system to own and many great Nintendo games on there for sure.

Fact: there are more games from the SNES era that are still playable than there are N64 games. If I had to be trapped on an island with either SNES or N64, it would be no fucking contest. As Argentina94 pointed out, old sprite games age better than old polygon games.

Again, you’re trolling.

A side conversation popped up concerning how 2D and 3D games have aged. The first generation of 3D titles have not aged well (quite like how the 2600 or NES is really starting to show their age). The SNES will fair much better in the coming years than the N64. Compare Mario 64 to Mario Sunshine or Mario kart 64 to Mario kart Double Dash, like the SNES is to the NES, the GC is simply a refined version of the N64 and it shows. If you really want to play some good games that were present on the N64, buy a GC. Compared to the level of refinement that the SNES had (again, concerning 2D titles), the N64 seems like a half assed attempt that didn’t quite make the grade.

This is why I dislike the N64. The controller is awkward, the games are blurry (thanks to the heavy amount of anti-aliasing) and the cartridge format kept some advancements out of the games (better soundtracks, voice acting). This system and Nintendo’s arrogance also cost them the main support of Square. All in all I found the N64 to be a huge disappointment.

So, in short, most N64 games that were considered good at the time can now be found on a much more refined console. Other than I few (and I mean few) titles, I consider the N64 to be a waste of time.

Your lack of comprehension is disturbing to say the least.

When someone is saying most of the N64 games on that list are unplayable is rather sad. I said that I popped in a few and I had no idea what he was yakking about by saying nearly all were unplayable.

I mentioned the SNES part because it fits into the same category of him saying almost all SNES games are good.

Both are idiotic statements, that's the bottom line.

Unless you have something actually worthwhile to contribute to defend either of those claims, don't bother replying.
