"nOOb angst"

I imagine I’m going to get flamed for this one but I thought I would speak out a little. I’m currently a member of a few gaming forums and I know each one has it’s own style. This one is a really good site but the overall opinion of “noobs are shit” is garbage. This site can sometimes be like a bunch of 8th grade girls in a small click. Lighten up. If someone makes a stupid topic, let them know without being a dick. If they’re trying to contribute leave them be. New members will never make it to be old members unless you welcome them in. Being a dick and cocky because you’ve been around since 1999 and have a post count of over 10,000 is ridiculous. If you’ve been around that long you should know better anyway.

This can be a good site and I’d like to stick around. I know I’m going to get replies like “nOOb complaints LOL!!!” or “If you don’t like it, leave”. I really don’t care though, I had to say what I was thinking.

I’m expecting a few flames here and there. I was just hoping for some support as well. Trust me, I’ve been around long enough to know how annoying some new members are. Questions like “What is a Neo Geo?” or “Nintendo owns Sega” are terribly annoying. Fortunately most people like that go away on their own. Using a blanket technique to initially treat all noobs like shit is a bad idea. I consider myself to be one of the not so annoying ones. Sure, I have questions from time to time but nothing overly annoying I hope.

I fully understand and expect this kind of treatment. Most of the members here are fine. I just think there are some that are counterproductive in their being ass holes while hiding behind a high post count so the mods leave them alone. The entire site is not the War Room and seems some are confused about that fact.

No, I can honestly say I’m not some banned member. As a matter of fact I use this name on many other sites. I don’t like the fact of hiding behind some fictitious name. I am who I am on all the boards I’ve joined.

Even after time I won’t treat new members like shit. Like I have said in the past, I can take a joke. Hell, I can take some nastiness as well, I’ve even been know to dish it out a bit. It’s just all shit all the time and because I’m a new member that bothers the hell out of me. I’m only doing this because I like this site and hope to stick around for a while.

The problem I have is this:
Some accounts are spam accounts, some are rom beggers, some are crooks.

We should just have a 'newer members' check in, and have that thread deeply moderated so they can get into the swing of the site and read what works and what doesn't. There are so many pet peeves that newer members just don't know about. Plus, you can't be new and learn the hard way. Seriously, Its not hard to get wiped out here when you are new. This site has seen so much bs and scammers that its left a paranoid scar on newer members.
Just take your time, and by all means try to check out the gameplay forum. I see alot of newer members ask questions and talk about chars, even if its ridiculous, it at least gets you some ground, as you are alot less likely to take a beating then you would if you posted in N&R or Unrelated.

Make no mistake my friend, a high post count doesn't mean much when it comes to serious "disciplinary actions", it's just that we know a thing or two about some members here, how they react to certain things and how they really mean it when they post something that otherwise could be taken as a gross indecency. It's normal that you grow accustomed to ppl whom you "meet" day by day on the internet, so you watch their downsides with different eyes. That's not playing favorites, that's live and let live.

Yeah, sometimes the "stfu n00b" stuff gets a lil' out of hand, but well, that's ng.com, after all. You already mentioned it, this place has a lot of interesting stuff to offer, so don't be put off by a bit of razzing, once you take part in serious discussion and at least show some basic communication skills, nobody will give a damn about your n00b status anymore.
