If you could live in an other country, which one would it be?

Name the country and the reason why you would choose it.

I lived in Atlanta for 6 months and I had a big love affair there. I was doing reasearch at Georgia Tech at this time and I think I could have get a good job with all the professionnal contacts I got from GT. I had to finish my studies in France to get my degree so I didn't search that much but I think I would have liked to live there. Atlanta is not a "whaouh" city after my idea but I liked the life there. Despite of the common digust french people have against USA, I enjoyed all my stays there (3 times in 4 differents cities, east and west coast) and every time I felt like there was a space there for me.

I'd stay in the US. As much as I'd love to visit Japan for an extended period (say 6 months or more), I don't think I'd ever want to live there.

I definitely have no plans/desire to visit France, and wouldn't live there. I'd maybe like to visit Germany and the UK, but again, I like the US, though I hate the administration.

Spain, possibly Barcelona (where I've lived for a year)
It offers the best quailty of life worldwide

However I got married and my wife doesn't want to learn spanish or live over there
I live in England now and I'm start getting tired of it, i don't think I'll go back to Italy

We're planning to move to northern California (SanFran or Oakland), I'll have to get used to live in a police state though.....

Either Canada (Ontario or Nova Scotia), France, or Germany but I'd also like to visit Kenya, Cuba, Japan, and Italy someday.

I'd stay here but I was forced to choose I'd pick Australia.

Now where else would TEH WASTA live? :kekeke:

I wanted to leave Germany for a long time because I dislike almost anything connected with it, but the more I looked for a better alternative, the sooner I came to the conclusion that it'd be same ol' bullshit, just in a different country.

That's why I stay here and try to make the best out of it.

I don't think I'd move out of Barcelona, although I will possibly have to when I buy a house on my own as here they are just too damn expensive, so I'll have to look for a house in the peripheral cities that surround it.

I'd like to visit Japan but not to live there. I've visited Canada (Vancouver), UK (Newcastle) and USA (Pittsburgh) for a 2 month period each, and I wouldn't mind living in the first two if given a good opportunity. I guess I would to the same in the USA but if given a choice I'd take the other 2 places first.

I think I'd stay here in the States.

I love where I live (United States) and don't want to leave. But if I had to leave I'd choose either Australia or Canada (minimize on the culture shock).

I'm generally happy with the US, but if I had to choose a different country it'd probably be Canada for the cold. :D

Of course, I'd most like to move to Alaska, which most Americans probably consider a foreign country anyway. :p

If the USA blew up i'd move to Switzerland.

if i'd ever had kids, i'd definitely want to move to northern denmark or sweden. especially northen denmark seems to be a quite relaxed and peacefull place.
i also like the landscapes and the fact that the cities usually are very clean and not full of litter. plus ... there doesn't seem to be as much envy amongst people.

I'd want to stay here as well...but if I had to go somewhere I'd want it to be Japan.

I don't think I would want to permently live in another country but, of all the places I've visited so far I kinda like England or Scottland and the Japan.

you wouldn't like living there. Their clothes only go up to US Medium, or if you're lucky "Large." Shoe sizes go to the equivalent of 10.5. Most of you would not enjoy it there.

And unless you go to Rappongi, don't expect anyone, much less girls, to give a shit about your foreign ass.

Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, or England.

Never really had a huge desire to move to a foriegn country though - things are hard enough when you know the territory.

I didn't say I wanted to live there, just visit for a bit. Didn't say I was girl hunting either.

And I don't really care about clothes or shoe sizes, as I'm a US large (can wear mediums) and my shoe size is 8 US.

I would, but only after I get my engineering degree. I don't know if I could ever find a job there, but if I did find work, I'd probably have a good standard of living (assuming the government doesn't tax me into the poorhouse).

I think Ireland would be very cool. I could definately live there. Just outside of Dublin. I have relatives down in Cork, but that is waaay too country for my tastes...

Canada would be another solid choice...

Easy access to pretty much all the things I do to past the time. Hell last year it had got to the point where I was downloading and watching more Japanese programming than I did american TV.

I disagree. The key to being happy in Japan (especially living in the big cities) is being able to speak Japanese, having Japanese friends, and actually giving a shit about the country. If you speak Japanese and have a good group of Japanese friends, you will have a good time and you will meet nice girls. The fact of the matter is, if you are going to Roppongi, don't expect to find a nice girl. You will find a slut (period, end of sentence, full stop). Girls who go to Roppongi look to find foreign guys for sex. The old joke is 1 fuck for 1 English verb. Any foreigner who has lived in Japan for an extended period of time soon learns to despise Roppongi (maybe with the exception of Roppongi Hills which is quite nice) and will go out in the other entertainment districts like Shibuya, Shinjku, Ikebukuro, or Ginza/Shinbashi. Also, I think you will find that if you leave Tokyo and go to some of the other cities (especially Sapporo and Fukuoka), you will find people much more receptive to you (People in Tokyo are by far the rudest people in Japan).

I loved living in Japan and am often torn about whether I would want to go back for a longer period of time.

To answer this question of this post, if I were to leave the US, I would only consider living in Japan. Although I love Europe and have visited many countries there , I could not live there because it just didn't feel comfortable (I liked London the best, but the food left a bit to be desired...) Still to this day, I wish I could split myself in two and have one half of me live in Tokyo and the other half in NYC.

Well i'd like to get the hell out of Australia first....we have stupid laws against airsoft guns and hell anything that even resembles an real weapon not allowed and even games get banned from Australia if they exceed the MA15+ rating and that's not hard to do with games like GTA etc.

I agree. To enjoy Japan, and abowe all Tokyo it is a VERY good thing if you can speak Japanese.. I'm having hard time as it is right now, but slowly i'm getting better. I would not like to live here for the rest of my life but who knows.. My choise would be Estonia. A Baltic country.. Small, beautiful and smart imo..

back to London if I was loaded. I'd only move back there if I had enough cash to not worry about having to get with the program.

otherwise.. not really sure. actually Hawai or one of the pacific islands. Sidney/Australia is also a place I would consider going. I fell in love with that city when I was over there 5 years ago.

I would also want to move to Japan if I had enough to buy a castle or some imposing house on a hill where I could be a recluse. Tokyo living is murder. but some parts are gentle on the heart. Hakone. or the south or the north-east. with the Ainu.

Yes it is. This is part of the problem why this country is going through tough times at the moment - most larger companies love to benefit from the overall high-quality infrastructure and smart engineers, but instead of re-investing the money here, they fire thousands of ppl and move the factories/production units eastwards (Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, Romania, Czech Republic, etc.).

Combine that with a tremendous increase of cost of living after the introduction of the Euro and high unemployment and you get happy-happy-joy-joy Germany in 2005.

...and these are just economical reasons not to move here, don't get me started on politics and all that stuff.

My friend who's about to finish his ECE degree wants to move there and work for a US engineering firm so he can avoid taxes as well :). He also likes the position in relation to the middle east (Dubai) and the rest of western Europe.

probably japan. gonna live near the mountains, work on padi fields and gonna get married to the village chief's beautiful daughter :emb:

Well, let's put it this way, if you have a good income and no kids, it doesn't really matter where you live.

Most US workers who come here don't really mingle with the natives in most cases. Similar to military personell, they only go back and forth between work-home-party-shopping and that's that. Many of them have a special status in the national law and tax system, that is as long as they don't plan to stay here.

I guess things are different if you were born and raised here.
