I'm surprised, but I am really really excited. I really want to see how the Sandman is going to be handled in the film.

I am not familiar with the comic only the animated show but isnt Venom supposed to be big and muscular even before he put on the suit. When i first heard the casting i figured THC was venom :conf: Topher seems a little wimpy to be Venom

I have never been a huge Eddie Brock fan, but Sandman will be great. Can't wait to see how they handle all the shitty CGI they are going to have to use for both of these villans though :Hmkay:

First of all for the record Topher is Venom!

now that thats strait it makes alot of sense really

1. in the ultimate spidey line venom is not very big outside the suit many have said that rami borrowed a bit from that comic line in the first film just a bit though.

and secondlly look at how it will most likelly be played Topher and Toby look very alike and are roughlly the same build It makes sense to make them rivals in a film like this quite franklly I bet we don't see much of Venom at all in this one but rather a lot of back story between Peter and Brock building up to a fourth film steamlined by Venom. I think the casting is genious.

My bigest hope is that we will get to see spidey in that black suit!

i always imagined Triple H could be Venom...if they were going from the original Spidey comics...he was a muscular muthafucker....

Topher Grace tho...i guess he is alright...i would think he would be a better Carnage...but maybe a rock star-turned-actor might be good for that instead.

as for the symbiote story arcs...they should of stopped at Venom and Carnage...all those other ones were unnessicery imo.

Venom is overall a great character design.

- As most villains he knows Pete's identity.
- Spidey's "spider sense" isn't triggered by his presence.
- Venom can do everything Spidey can, but is stronger, just lacks in the speed department.
- Venom speaks as 2 people. I remember in the first Spidey game. "You're right Peter, our bad".

As for Sandman, I can already foresee, some of Spidey's jokes towards him. I can't remember his origins though. Wasn't it radioactive sand that landed on him? Not very original.

Ugh...I was really hoping for them to go more into Harry's discovery and bring him in as Hobgoblin. It wouldn't be exactly like in the books mind you, but Hobgoblin would work better for audiences, as opposed to just a second Green Goblin. In addition to that, have a supporting villian on the spot. Someone like Sandman would have worked well. Venom on the otherhand is going to be pretty hard to setup in a way that the audience and comic fans will enjoy. Secret Wars was some pretty involved story stuff. Venom is a mistake if you ask me, I would have rather seen just about any other villian paired with Hobgoblin over Venom.

I'm sure Venom will be handled in a fine way. Maybe like the did in the animated series. It's not like the movies have been all that close to the comics anyway.

I very highly doubt, they are going to stick to the original storyline. Besides with so many alternate creations of Spider-man Venom's origins has changed too.

If they did it like the animated series, then it's very easy to introduce Venom. Jonah's son was already revealed to be an astronaut in the 2nd movie. Let's just say on a space expedition his crew involuntarily bring the symbiote back to earth. Easy and simple.

I was wondering why everyone kept saying Hobgoblin...I just didn't know if I was right.

I remember someone saying that Harry would be getting more "evil" in this movie and that they really want to do a 4th one.

Oy I know Venom is stupidly popular but there's a good handful of villians I would have used before him.....

Sandman was always one of my favorite Spidey villians (actually most of his classic villians are some of my favorite rogues) so I'm not complaining he's in. I would have figured that Electro or the Lizard would have been the number three villian to use behind the Green Goblin and Doc Ock.

But.....I figure they had to have Venom pop up before too long. I liked him okay when he first came out but loathed the fact that he was so popular that Marvel turned him into something of an anti-hero so they could cash in on him. That, the clone mess, and a few other things has made it downright impossible for me to keep my run on Amazing Spider-Man consistent.

WTF? Sandman is a huge dude in the comics, so is Eddie Brock (Venom)
both those guys listed are skinny nerds.

topher grace would have been a decent cast as spiderman, but not as any of those two villians. thomas haden church would have been decent as someone like electro.

i guess they are going to fuck up how the venom entity gets to earth..... unless they send peter parker into space for some reason.

topher could be decent as carnage actually, but shit, you need someone the rocks size to play venom, but not the rock himself, since venom is a white dude...

funny thing, when i was really young and just starting getting into comics...i had always thought Spidey's main arch-nemesis was Doctor Doom...and i would only buy comics that had alot of action in that issue (early proof that im an action junkie for fiction)

I would beg to differ about the ones I listed being too low tier to deserve movie time. While there's no denying Venom's popularity (and subsequently Carnage's as well), alot of those guys were smacking Spidey around plenty of times for a good 30 or so years before Venom and his ilk ever showed up. If they never rose to the occassion to be more standout in their villany than they were, then I'd chalk that up to hack writers moreso than I would the lack of strength in the characters.

Yeah, the Scorpion would be worth the price of admission alone.

But c'mon, Electro is beaten with water, the Rhino is a one trick pony (charge towards spidey) and the Vulture is basically an old man that flies. The Chameleon and Mysterio might give him a run for his money, but only in a psychological aspect. Maybe a combination of a powerhouse and one of these two guys might work well, but one of them on their own is not what I'd like to see for a summer movie.

I think it's more to do with the fact that Venom and even Green Goblin got more involved with Spidey's personal life. They weren't your average 'run of the mill' villains. Heck Green Goblin even killed Spidey's first girlfriend, he tormented him for quite some time, attacking Aunt May and Mary Jane. These villains knew Spidey's identity so they knew who to attack and when to attack.

Out of your list Vulture and Rhino make very poor choices. Rhino was more a paid henchman. Vulture wasn't exactly a big threat either.

Besides by introducing Green Goblin, you make way for Hobgoblin and then the later Demogoblin. By introducing Venom you make way for Carnage. Many of the others are just stand alone villains, which don't affect the storyline much.

I expected them to continue the storyline with Harry and the Green Goblin. You know Harry picks up where his father left off and fights spidey yet again. Spidey thinks he's back from the dead but once he defeats him, "oh no it's my best friend" and then shows harry his true identity but whatever. To tell you the truth I didn't think the first or the second were all that good not bad though just overhyped.

That's a lot of backstory to fit in one film, though.

You and I both haven't been following Ultimate Marvel, evidently..

The last cool storyline I read in the Marvel universe was the whole Onslaught saga, but it was just to much to keep up with. You had to buy every fucking book in the Marvel lineup almost to keep up.

Also, Topher Grace is a horrible choice for Venom. Venom was a hulking beast in the comics, even without the suit. Topher Grace weighs around 90 lbs.

I think having Venom in it is pretty lame. IMO if they wanted to do Venom and the symbiote they should have done it in a trilogy:
Movie 1: Spidey gets the suit (We'll go with the animated series reason and say it was on a shuttle) and fights a classic villian during the movie (for some reason I think Electro or the Shocker would be good... dunno why). During this time Eddie Brock is humiliated by Spider-Man and all that. At the end, bell tower gets suit off of Spidey and it latches on to Eddie Brock and we see Venom.

Movie 2:
Spidey vs. Venom.

Movie 3:
Carnage.


And thats it. IMO the guy that played Marv in Sin City IS Eddie Brock (seriously, he's perfect) and I think Mark Hamil (he's the Joker dammit!) would be an interesting Cletus Kassady.
