So why aren't illegal drugs legalized yet?

Seriously? I really just assumed that this Nixon bullshit would have blown over by now. Drug use in schools alone has gone up nearly 10% since the early seventies, and our kids that do decide to experiment end up funding real criminals. Fake crimes do make real criminals. I myself don't smoke weed, but yes, I have tried it before. I chose for myself whether I liked it or not. I have that freedom of choice. You aren't going to tell me that legalizing drugs will cause any more havoc than Alcohol has. Should people drink and drive? Hell no. You can't make that choice to not drink because you don't trust them. I can't lock you up in prison immediately after you're born because there is a potential that you might steal something sometime during your lifetime. I myself do Drink, and I smoke cigarettes. Drinking has caused far less trouble to myself and others than my smoking has. Smoking cigarettes has no purpose in the first place. It's not a recreational drug that does any good for you, well at least not until you're a smoker. Many smokers like myself will claim that it calms your nervs. Is that an excuse? No, but I have the right. How can any of you who dare go and smoke a cigarette today persecute a heroin user? Cigarettes didn't calm your nervs before you became addicted, so how is it any different for a heroin addict? You sure can't fucking tell him that it won't calm his nervs. Haha, it's okay. Go smoke your next cigarette. It's OKAY. Maybe I don't want a junkie hanging out in my house, but I'm not going to tell him or you what to do. Fucking Nixon.

I am talking about ALL drugs. For the most part weed is a big issue, but I honestly couldn't ever picture seeing Crack and Heroin ads in magazines. If possesion is not illegal, than the black market won't profit and will have to abandon for the most part. Since when was being a "crack head" cool in the first place. If I wanted to go shoot up heroin right now I could. People who want it will have it, and vice-versa. Making it illegal puts innocent people in prison. It costs $20,000 to keep a drug offender in prison for 1 year alone. Is this money spent wisely, and does a drug offender deserve to lose his freedom...for freedom of choice?

Legalizing weed, yes, it should be done. I've even spoke with several ex-police officers who said they didn't really care if people smoked weed, as long as they woke up Monday morning, went to work, and remained a productive part of society.


Crack, heroin, LSD, etc. will fuck you up, and by fuck you up, I mean have some nasty negative life altering experiences. Yeah, you DO have a choice in whether or not you should do that shit, but by all means you shouldn't be able to walk down to your local Rite Aid (or whatever pharmacy store you have) and walk up to the pharmacist like "Yo man, I need an 8ball."


Weed, in general, does not make your life come to a quick and sudden stop due to addiction. Yeah, there are SOME potheads out there, but those are the people that take it too far. The rest of the stuff can get you addicted with one try, and really shouldn't be readily available for just anybody.

Yeah, pretty dumb. And my point above is that even the drug users aren't innocent. They know that drug use is illegal, and they do it anyway. All parties involved are guilty.

Look at how big business markets things: fast food, alcohol, cigarettes - all designed to capture consumers young, instill brand loyalty, and have em customers for life, even though it eats your body. If drugs were legalized today, with that constant media bombardment, in 100 years we'd have a legion of new crack heads, E-poppers, etc more than we do now. I do not see how this would be a good thing. Yes, everyone has a choice, but don ot under estimate the ease of which most people can be swayed.

The "the people want it, so give it to them" school of thought is something I just don't agree with. If children were treated like that, we'd all be spoiled brats. Limitations can beneficial. Once arything goes - that's pretty much the beginning of the end for abody of people.

The war on drugs and the war on terrorism both cannot be won. Just like you can't stop love, hate, or sadness. Part of the human nature is for people to do what they want to do. Drugs have existed longer than we have and illegal or not, some people will chose to do them. If ALL drugs were legal (or at least possesion of), that would cut down on crime dramaticly. Most organized crime is involved in the drug trade in one way or another. How many people get shot or killed every year over coke, heroine, meth, or even pot (yes it does happen, my guitarist/roommate's cousin was shot in the head over on ounce or two of SHWAG, fortunitely he survived). And how many people get arrested for drug offenses each year, it's not exactly free to incarcerate someone.

I do agree that drugs like meth, coke, herione, and ketamine are bad, and that no one should do them, but people are curious, and there will always be someone that would want to "try" one or more of these harder drugs. But that would be that persons decision, not mine. Are government should spend less money fighting impossible wars, and more on real problems.

At the very least, pot should be legal, not just cus I smoke it, it's just not a bad drug. Alcohol and nicotene are a lot worse for you. Alcohol is bad for about every part in your body, and both alcohol and nicotene can kill you. They can be lethal. There has (at least to my knowledge) never been a person who overdosed on THC and died. The government could sell the pot and just tax the fuck out of it like they do cigarettes. Then instead of throwing away money on arresting potheads and dealers (which if pot was legal, they probably wouldn't exist anymore), they could be profiting off other people's habits.

But look at countries with younger drinking ages. Most of them have lower percentages of alcoholics and drunk driving. When it's something they've been around their whole life and have never not been allowed to drink before. They don't seem to go overboard. In the U.S., highschool and college students go crazy as soon as the can get their hands on booze.

Bottom line: a fifteen year old kid can find pot with a couple of phone calls, alcohol and cigaretts are harder to get cus they need proper ID to purchase it themselves. Just because something is illegal doesn't make it harder to find.

i dont think people should be punished for fucking up their own lives. thats their decision and should be their right. hardcore drugs carry a lot of other shit with them though, violence and crime for instance. the only way i could see those two side effects being prevented is if the shit was readily available and CHEAP, but then you have other problems that are gonna arise from that.

Unlike with alcohol, you can still control what you're doing when you're high. You just can't think straight for more than a few seconds, everything is funny, your head feels like its stuffed with cotton, and you just don't care.

I'm sorry I am a bitch with this, its just that I've seen what it can do to people and I really have a zero tolerance attitude towards it. To me its just a bad trade. I feel this same way with smoking, which I hate more then any other habit. Mainly cause I grew up in it.

One of the people in my family would drink, and fall over. This would happen at conveinant times also. Like if I had a friend over, it was drama time. What this did to me is left me in a spot where I would second check alot of stuff. I used to wait up at night as kid just making sure this person wasnt dead. My moms would abandon the situation cause she couldn't handle it (rightly so), I'd clean up the mess from there. It wasnt traumatizing, but it was scary at times because it does add pressure onto your life.

My friend Cas got into weed, I havent seen him in forever. Tons of dudes I knew in high school were on it. One guy was on acid on campus, having a bad trip. Another showed me his wallet and said he was getting a 8 ball.

And old friend became a skinhead, came back here and wanted to light up with me. I wasnt interested. Another came to see me, hyper out of his mind. Punching his reflection in my mirror in my room. My moms drove this dude down to a restaurant. I haven't seen him in forever. When I got this short lived job at this mexican grocery store, his friend vincent told me went completely crazy. This guy was a really cool guy. I can't tell if he was on some drug or just nuts when he dropped by. Have not seen him sinse.

Its sad for me because these are people I liked, friends. You see this shit, especially effecting those people and it really changes your attitude towards them. Drugs are so fucking dangerous and people get so used to small interest, they really have no outside voice to tell them when enough is enough.

Especially if you get into heroine. Thats one of the toughest drugs to get off of.

I'm sorry if I was offensive to you guys, but I am ignorant about drugs, and beyond the bullshit I wrote above, I just don't think they are worth it in the long run. I don't want to risk my kids being born retarded or otherwise. Thats shits just to dangerous..

I've heard weed has way more tar then smokes.

You know why people like myself don't bother with dope? Its self respect. How can I respect my body if I fill it with booze, smoke or do dope? I won't change my stance on this subject. If its something that causes preventable damage, its simply no good. Do I care if someone smokes or drinks on occasion? Not really. I'm not crusader, and I'm not perfect. I just don't see myself bothering with hard liquor or drugs/smokes. It may seem okay for a while, but its the long term effects people need to be aware of.

I have a cancerous history in my family, all I need is a little dope and a black lung. Fucking waste. I'd rather take the beatings then waste my health on things that do nothing but harm me. I'm very proud to be ignorant to knowing the personal effects of dope. If it can't benefit me its nothing I have any interest in. I need my memory also. There is no benefit to drugs. None.

Well I have no idea how much tar it has compared to butts... any substance you combust and inhale into your lungs is bad for you. I'm not saying it isn't loaded with things that damage your lungs, I'm saying it isn't physically addictive. It won't twist and warp your mind when ingested regularly. As a mind-altering substance it's a rarity in that respect.

It can have a negative impact on your life if it becomes a psychological fixation. If the highlight of your day amounts to getting high then you should put it down and forget about it. It falls into the same category as masturbation, porno, body piercing, tattooing, etc. These things aren't harmful but they are psychologically addictive... any pleasurable activity is psychologically addictive. It becomes dangerous if you allow yourself to live for it and not live with it.

Unlike booze and coke (among others) stopping will not put you through a hellish physical withdrawal. Your body doesn't think it "needs" weed to survive. Unlike other illicit substances your mind treats weed on a "want" basis, not on a "need" basis. That's what makes weed virtually harmless.

that's what I'm saying. the problem is some people are fuck ups because they have personality dissorders (nothing wrong with that in itself btw. we all got our issues) and get addicted to a substance because of who they are not what the thing they are consuming is. if they want to self destruct they will one way or another.

booze is bad news. so is smoking cigs. in the sense that they are legal drugs - they are fucking sold to you the way drugs are for god's sake - alcohol is sold like its an elixir, the idea behind the ads really is get yourself drunk - ain't nothing to do with the taste of it - or get stoned (tabacco is a stimulant) in a way that's socially cool.

moderation. its acceptable for grown ups to take charge of their own lives and make their own decissions. there is nothing inherently different about legal drugs. weed is just stigmatized and taboo.

they grow up its their lives they'll have to take responsibility for whatever they do. that's as far as you can go. same with gun control and what have you. I'm happy to have grown up in a country where you can't get a gun - not part of the tradition there (UK), plus having kids in the house I would never myself own a gun here (got a baseball bat, happy enough with that). but I don't believe in treating adults like they where kids or inclined to do something wrong. you got to trust to build.

She was a weird girl, not bad looking, but he never did drugs prior to her. Then she'd come by and they'd smoke weed out back, then he told me after he got out of it that she had him doing crazy shit. I think he was on acid and he may have done even worse things. This was lame to me as I am a pretty strong dude, and often kind of violent.

Weed really isnt harmless man. Even if its not addictive, feeling in control doesn't mean its not a health risk.

I just think that its a much better health choice to not use anything at all. I'm really not trying to be a dick about this, its something that really sucks when it hits home. Especially when it hits friends.

Like it was pointed out before, it's a law that puts innocent people in jail. You could make sex illegal, but would you really consider people arrested for it criminals? I doubt it.

And I'm not pro drug. I'm pro common sense. you must know that crime and drugs like crack go hand in hand right? not just some bullshit crime like killing yourself, but crime that affects other people. crackheads cannot support themselves, and they support their habbit through criminal actions a huge percentage of the time. joe blow does not work a steady 9-5 all year with crack as a way to pass the time.

instead of making drugs like that illegal maybe we can have huge detention camps that crackheads can check themselves into and do all the drugs they want free of charge. in order to leave these camps they have to prove that theyve been clean for a year or whatever.

That's an interesting serteotype, and sadly it's one that's often times true. ON the other hand, my experience with white collar drug users has also shown that it's just as often NOT true. I've known more than a few heroin/coke users that used for quite a long time and supported their habits legitly. There are even one or two on this board, but I'll let them come forward themself if they choose.

But I'm not really calling for outright legalization of said substances. Just more a middle ground of sorts (can there be one?), because I think it would be a sad day when/if heroin and cocaine are advertised in the media, but I think it's almost as sad of a state now, only in the opposite way.
