LOL, yeah... my point being is that our high thanks to the storm is really the first time we've crossed the bar on the price since the oil crisis in the early 80s. If you look at that other article I posted, however, earlier in the thread you'll see a few reasons why this happens. One is the price of gas has to jump drastically in order to control demand. Currently, due to problems with supply due to the storm (we've got another one oppressing the south right now that could disrupt us even more) and other issues (CA alone has had refining issues of their special blend of fuel this year... there are 6 refineries that can make the mixture, 3 were operating below their production curve) that upset our supply of gas. When these supply hiccups come around it takes enormous jumps in price in order for customers to back off on their buying habits. As stated, gas is almost completely inelastic, but a jump as drastic as to $5 at this point would probably start a complete boycott ;)Quote:

All very valid points... basically CA's minimum wage is a joke, but that's a topic for another thread. I agree with you, if we see these jumps in gas prices as predicted (and personally I don't think we will unless some other large disaster happens to disrupt the supply this year) it's really going to change the way a lot of people live. I currently live in Culver City, I drive around town quite often... I visit people in South Bay... last week I was lost in Pasadena... etc, etc. These trips would probably have to be cut considerably and... I'm lucky enough to work out of the home 90% of the time... I have enough gas reserved up from the Katrina Incident to last me long enough that I have no need to go to a gas station at all for about a month or so, and I don't drive around as much as I used to, so I don't plan to pay $5.00 for a gallon of petrol.
