Being that I lived in NOLA for quite a while, there have always been racism issues in New Orleans. The average murder rate per day is five, and all of them are black males killing black males. Throw in a little mainstream culture which is constantly teaching black youth in NOLA that they are criminals and need to slap hos and deal drugs and whatever else! I taught in an inner city high school and I spent the entire semester working with 20 year old textbooks and trying to teach my students that Martin Luther King did not "free the slaves." I was constantly called white boy by them and they ridiculed me. Imagine that, a white teacher caring more than their mother's who popped out another baby for more welfare ca$h to sponge off the government. I can't believe things have gone on as long as they have this way, add a casastrophe, of course it's going to be anarchy on a mammoth scale!
I think all this race issues stem from poor role models and the media. Rich African American rappers need to take some responsibility, stop peddling the "thug attitude," you are a rich, hypocrisy vomiting monster wealthy off the bullet riddled bodies of your bretheran!
I have several close friends who are African American and they too feel as if the role models for youth are bad. The problem is there are good role models, it's just that mainstream culture doesn't expose them, because (gasp) it is not profitable....
