This is fad started long time ago to explain any thing that could not be.
As science becomes more advanced religion starts to look even more foolish.
I still cant believe how many people eat this stuff up.
all religions sound like some crazy fairy tale some way crazier than others.
But all the same. People eat this shit up thinking they will have some great after life.
Most peoples concept of Heaven is the biggest joke. Why would any one soul or energy need a place based on physical needs. Why would any one great powerful unknown entity want to waste its own energy making you happy or suffer for eternity based on some pointless activity you have done on one little planet in the entire universe.
An infinite universe countless galaxies and most humans think it was just created for them. talk about over rating your self.
When you die you will be come nothing more than some food for worms and bacteria.
Religion is the root of countless pointless deaths.
People have only one known life and they give it up for some BS belief of a great after life.

I am not saying for sure there is no greater entity(s) in the universe.
I just think humans pull illogical shit out of their asses to make them selves feel less inferior. Most want to feel like their life is more important than it really is.

I dont believe in god as a 'being' but i do believe in the power of faith. Any religion can be a good thing in certain doses. I DO NOT believe in these religions that justify the killing of innocent people! to me that is not a religion it is a cult.

I am CofE but i dont go to church or anything like that. I dont want to 'not' believe incase when i snuffs it i go to hell or something. I like to keep an open mind but i definately favour science.

Barely skimmed this thread but I'll chime in.

Religion is good as long as it has a respect and tolerance for other religions.

Its VERY bad when it excludes people who arent in that religion. When it has some opposition to people marrying when they are of a different religion. When it pushes away others who arent in that religion.

Hinduism is the perfect religion as far as I'm concerned.. I think it just may be the religion for me.

The sad thing is when fanatics use a religion and corrupt its ideals to the public.
Islamic terrorists for example.

I think that's one of the theories of Judaism's 'Chosen People' concept. You do have to wonder that if Hitler adopted that theory for his Aryan Master Race, since Hitler had bastardized a lot of stuff, such as the Manji that was used by Buddhists for eons, but reversed for the party flag.

Judaism has a lot going for it though. It has no concept of afterlife and believes in the Mitzvahs, so its constituents understands that we are here for the long haul, and that each individual should perform Mitzvahs to bring people out of destitution, hardship, and live amongst each other as a coherent community, as the saying goes, "It takes a Village."

Emile Durkheim also postulated that this is one of the reasons why Judaic constituents have the lowest suicide rate in the world, because there is nothing to look forward to after death.

The Bible never speaks of an actual Hell. And as far as planting seeds. The correct translation of planting seeds, is showing people God's word. Planting a Seed. Money in Christiandom is used improperly all the time. People who make a living off of religion are bad, bad, bad. Jesus accepted shelter and food, but was never paided to preach.

People who live a good life, and try to live up to God's standards, will be rewarded with life everlasting. God did not create the world for nothing. God's original purpose was a paradise earth, but Adam and Eve were given free will and they blew it. Jesus spoke of a ressurection. Look it up for yourself.

I believe it was Carl Sagan who said it but People created a "God of the Gaps". It was a way for them to be able to understand the world and how it works in simple terms.

These days religion isn't really that necessary because of our knowledge and science. If it helps you be a better person then go for it but don't tell other people what to believe.

Science tells you how the world is created? Great -- sensational. Does it tell you WHY we're here? No...not yet, anyway. Some people aren't content to work a 10 hour day, then come home and watch 'must see tv' until they get sleepy, wake up and do it again. They want to find some meaning to it all beyond blind consumerism. A lot of those people look to the various religions of the world for possible answers. I appreciate it when they don't try and force what they believe onto me, but that works both ways.

Whether religion is real or not i think it's a great way to live your life by. Sort of a code of conduct if you will. Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself, shit like that.

Yes. There are good, warm-hearted Christians who simply want to live their life and not hurt anyone along the way. Then there are the Christians who take the "holier than thou" stance and MUST make it clear to everyone that they believe in God and if YOU don't, YOU will burn for all eternity.

Even a non-believer (like myself) will appreciate the nature of spirituality and religion, despite how annoying televangelists, snobs and certain other loathsome individuals can be. The simple point is to have a better understanding of how the world was formed and why we exist. ..but those strange shows that are on every Sunday morning, for example, do not respectfully represent what I would believe to be Christian faith. The preacher on TV should not be wearing top-of-the-line suits and be surrounded by the most lavish decorations and furniture available in order to simply spread the Good Word. ..and of course, as it has been said, no-one should ever feel pressured or intimidated into "believing." Something that should seem so simplistic shouldn't be such a complicated affair. Nor should it come across obnoxiously or blatantly corny.

If there are "recruiters" out there who think they can pass around pamphlets and knock on everyone's door to gain new members for their church, they need to stop immediately. Not only is it annoying and crossing that line of common decency, it's also disrespectful TO the religion. Anyone who's got personal faith in a higher being knows just HOW personal it is. You can't imprint that in others. It's spiritual, it's personal.

Religious worship via churches and other outlets should not be treated like "clubs." A believer will find his or her own way. A non-believer will not enlist due to, imagine that, non-belief!

To me, there are more reasons to not bother getting wrapped up in any particular religion, but I can't speak for every person on Earth. I simply want proof that it's worthwhile. Up to this point, regarding my personal life, it serves no purpose.

Ah religion...I've written hundreds of pages and conducted years of study on the topic, but for our purposes here, I'll provide only the skeletal summation of my opinion.

Religion can be traced back to the prehistoric period. Our earliest records of it indicate that it served as a means to explain the many unknown variables of the world (i.e. rain, drought, sun light, etc.). Not only did it serve as a means of explanation, but it was also a way for humans to attempt to control the world around. By way of worship, prayer, sacrifice, and the like, humans sought to appease and/or manipulate the gods/higher powers who were believed to control these unknown variables.

Of course not long after its inception, religious leaders (usually priests) realized the influential power their positions granted. As interpreters of omens, signs, and other natural phenomena, these leaders provided the masses with answers, especially with regard to affliction. Conversely, such answers have been used to manipulate the masses into producing a desired outcome. Examples of this can be found ranging from ancient Egyptian pharaohs seeking to expand their empires to today's al-Qaeda leaders.

As education and knowledge of the physical world increase, the need for explanation through fantastic means diminishes. Do we know exactly how the universe began? Of course not, but any claims to provide answers for this by way of supernatural or fantastic means is to take the easy way out, i.e. belief for the sake of belief.

You might argue that religion provides people with morals or reasons to behave. However if fear of punishment were enough to keep society nicely ordered, prisons in the United States would not be over filling. Also, religion is not a necessary component for a life in which one does not malign others. Self control and education are the keys.

There is no conclusive evidence for the existence of a god, nor is there conclusive evidence against such a thing. Thus, to invest large amounts of time and energy into a religion seems like a waste.

Paradise on earth that full concept seems very illogical.
If they did not eat an apple “god” would have made the universe work with different physics?
Let see to be paradise that would mean not any one person would suffer or get hurt in any way.

Religion is more or less a life manual.
Any person that fallows religion will appear to lead a better life.
the bible is loaded with a bunch of good guidelines.
99% of them are commonsense to any average person.
It has nothing to do with a god watching over you making things happen for an easier life.
Its just a fact the more good choices you make the easier life should be.
But nothing is a guaranty. You can never forget all of the possible immeasurable factors.

It really seems the very religious people have nothing solid to back them.
They just get mad.

My GF is a Christian and her father is a preacher.
She tells me I think too much and he said I just need to believe.
That was his final words to me when we had a debate.

How is what anyone believes relelvant? It shouldn't be; that's the point of not forcing your beliefs on others.
