Tekken seems be be following the steps of Sega AM2 which is a good thing because after Tekken Tag they got a new programming team and lost their touch. First they released a rebalanced "Tekken 5.1" and now they release something like VF's "Evolution" with "Dark Ressurection". I say good job Namco.

IS it just me or do those 2 new characters totally look like they would be in a KOF game? Lili looks like a typical Cute fanservice anime type chick and Dragunov looks like Edward Scissorhands in a Nazi costume.

I can't wait for this game.

No, good call on the KOF comparison. Scary, pale people with scars are always cool (genjuro, Bryan, etc.) The commie factor to it even adds to it further, but I hope he has a better alternate costume.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that this hits the Xbox 360. Dead or Alive 4 isn't my thing, the less said about Rumble Roses the better, and KOF Max Impact 2 is too far down the road. (and the recently confirmed PS2 version, which I broke the news about, kinda worries me...)

Agreed. She is just a wast of polygons. But for some reason Namco always seems to pull something cool out of their asses. I thought Tekken 5's Feng Wei was was just another Chinese Kung Fu guy with a ponytail(whoopee!) but boy was I wrong once I saw his movelist and watched some match videos, he's such neat character and became an instant hit with fans.

Characters like these always throw me off. Cuz you can't really imagine what their movelists would be like.

I wouldn't cross my fingers too long. For some reason Namco wont let Tekken out of Sony's sight except for that one GBA game. This'll prolly be a launch game for the PS3 just like the Tekken 1 and Tekken Tag were.

Well in Tekken 2 Kazuya Mishima was the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and he has the Devil inside of him and he ran shit fuckin Cold Blooded. In the story I think it said that people said he had a dark Aura about him(basically the Devil). Tekken 2 was a dark game.

In tekken 5 I'd say there are 3 possible Endings and 2 of them lead to total darkness. 1 is that Devil Jin wins the tournament and takes the power from Jinpachi(his resurrected Grandfather) and then the Devil Totally encompasses him and he becomes way stronger. The 2nd is that the resurrected Jinpachi wouldn't be defeated so the evil inside of him grew and darkness was brought back again just like the Tekken 2 days.

Man this shit has me so fuckin excited. They just have so many storyline twists and turns in the Tekken series.

I wouldn't count all of your chickens before they hatch. Perhaps Frame City Killer and Ridge Racer 6 will do so well that Namco will give the 360 more than Namco Museum titles and assorted shovelware, like the current Xbox. (and before anyone brings up Soul Calibur II, that was an exception to the rule.) Can a guy dream?

I wouldn't be surprised if the characters get a name change in the final release. Remember Dean Earwicker. But these names are ok anyway.

They said the characters will be even more balanced and not just minor tweaks like the 5.1 upgrade. Damn it Namco fix King's and Julia's tracking, it's not cool.

I suppose so. It just doesn't seem like something Namco would do. Tekken has been all Sony besides that bad GBA game. Atleast Ridge Racer had been on other consoles.

I need to give Tekken 5 a go. There's a cab in the mall that I never got a chance to try back in May because it was packed.

LOL, I remember when Steve's name was supposed to be "Dean Earwicker". Everybody at Tekken Zaibatsu was like "WTF kind of name is that?" Then Namco changed it almost immediately. Goes to show you that Companies do pay attention to Messageboards. They didn't let Dean Earwicker go though cuz remember one of the Tekken Force guys had tha name, but I'm sure you new that BigFred.

Lili could stand a name change. That name is just boring.

I'm hoping they really can give us a balanced game. I miss the old days of tag. Sure Mishimas and Ogres were the kings but the 2nd tiers were still nothing to fuck with. The Changs were the shit, Lei was the shit, Kings were the shit. Fuck I remember when Slips won T.I.T. with Julia and Eddy, that shit was hot. They had plenty of Ogre and Mishima teams but Julia and Eddy came out on top. This game needs to get the shit playtested out of it.

5.1 was supposed to be a fix and it did fix the 3 bastards that ruined 5.0 however they made a bunch of mediocre characters even worse and for what reason?

They better get their shit straight.

I own tekken 3 for playstation and it was alright, only played 4 in the arcades though. Don't enjoy them as much as Vf I don't know why probably has to do something with the play system. Glad to see they're coming out with five though it'll be interesting to see how far they've come graphics wise and gameplay wise.

Balance is good, I think the current game is not that bad. It will take time specially with the new upgrade.

Just saw some footage and I can't wait for the game. Check out the 5 new vids if you haven't already. Lili looks like she'll kick some serious ass.

But the new moves look sweet. Paul gets a 3 hit laser scrapper-like combo. Devil Jin a new laser command throw. Yoshimitsu gets a mid air throw from helicopter stance and my main King gets a new attack from Jaguar Step.

For whatever reason, Namco missed the boat on online fighting games this console generation. Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2, Tekken 5, and Soul Calibur 3 all could've been online. (Soul Calibur 3 being a PS2 exclusive was particularly baffling.)

The company seems averse to putting out online multiplayer fighting games. Namco seems happy to let Tecmo basically rule the roost for online fighters with the Dead or Alive series, which is unfortunate, since the Dead or Alive games really aren't strong enough to popularize online fighting games.

Hopefully the alleged Xbox Live-like network service for PS3 will prove to be stable enough for Namco to consider putting one of its fighters on it. Both Tekken and Soul Calibur can definitely appeal to more than just hardcore arcade players.

Word is, here in Texas we got it in Houston. No one in the DFW area is going to get it so the only way I can play it is to travel to down there. I saw some video of Tekken 5: DR with the girl and she can fight. I saw some players using her like it was no big deal. Can't wait to play it! :buttrock:

Ive been playing it for almost 2 months now. In fact we have at least 3 machines I know of in NC. Getting my Lee ready for another run at nationals, which wont be hard b/c Lee has had alot of crucial improvements made to his game. 1,2,4 is now a natural combo. Df+2 is a GREAT high crush that launches. D+3 knocks down on CH (given to him in 5.1). B+1~1,2 is a natural combo and the just frame version gives +5dmg and wall splat plus is safe on block. Sadly 4,3,4 wall combo had its damage decreased BUT 4,3,3 gives KND AND guaranteed oki so its all good. And on top of all that they gave me a 2,1! Any real Tekken player knows that 2,1 (Jin's staple in T4) is a pain in the ass and NOW LEE has something like that...and it links into another new move 2,1,1 which stuns on normal hit AND gives backwards KND on CH! I LOVE THIS GAME! East Coast Tekken cant be beat lol. And I am East Coast E-Lee-t!!!! So far the tops are Devil Jin, Kaz, and Bryan (as if he needed more improvements). Nina got nerfed almost to the point of sodomy. Thus far Lili is a VERY safe and confusing character BUT she is too linear and Dragunov has a strong throw game (lots of 1+2 breaks) BUT his attack options are limited and to properly play him you gotta get a grasp on his range/speed.

ya dr is the shit, I've played about 2800 vs matches with lili between the test and final versions. (about 4000 or so total). I love this fricking game so much, I even wrote a faq on lili (it's on zaibatsu and gamefaqs). There is a big tourney this weekend in WI but a few local big names aren't going to be there unfortunately. But we're making vids of each match, I'll throw some up in this thread once it's all done and whatever. DR is so good. Obviously it's not 100 percent balanced, that would be impossible, but every character has a fair shot of winning a match. I have yet to see anything totally broken, though a lot of characters have some great stuff.

You're right about Lee. I don't play Lee but he is very good in DR. There is a guy in chicago that uses him, very good stuff. 1,2,4 hurts as a punisher. :mad:

I really don't care about a console version, or the psp version. If you are concerned about online play... ugh. Go out to the fucking arcade. I am all about COMP for this game, unlike almost every other fighting game I have ever played, even seriously. I'm looking forward to how things go this year for tekken. Hopefully it doesn't die before the next tekken comes out at the end of the year on ps3. But I don't think it will. DR is super solid. I love it.

SC3 is a disaster. After nats no one will want to play it. Even my friend who is running nats didn't even want to enter local regionals hahaha but he ended up qualifying. The arcade version is even worse, and people are even less interested in that.

Competing in a tournament this weekend. I'll be entering with King and I've been practising the fuck out of his Shining Wizard so I'm hoping for the best.

I want a sabaki dammit. df+2,1 is King's greatest tool. But he was toned down a little. No guaranteed ali kick after tombstone. No triple ground throw attempt after b+1+2,3+4. Screw that. But he's still a pimp.

They're actually holding a King only tournament over here currently titled "King of the Ring". Looking forward to that.

Overall the game is very popular. It's not about Steve's vs Nina's vs Bryan's. The entire cast is being used at high levels. I'm enjoying the new animations as well. Paul's new PK combo and db+2 look pretty sweet.

Uh ya king... is ok. You gotta be good at the game to be competative with him (at least where I'm at). My friend always does (whatever stun move), d/f+3,1,1,1 fff 2+4. Looks so cool. Maybe it's four jabs. He is really good with dashing jabs with king. It's NOT easy. lol. He's even done godfist godfist, 1,1,1,1 fff 2+4 with AK. Amazing shit. I think d/f+1,2 is actually kings greatest tool. d/f+2,1 is duckable. Shining Wizard.. god fuck that throw. It's so good, I hardly break it either.

This sort of does and dosent make sense in equal measures when you think about it.

If you consider the less hardcore Tekken player, an upgraded version of T5 with just 2 new characters wouldn't really seem worth the money to most people. (I remember VF4: Evo pretty much bombing in sales and hitting the £15 mark just a couple months after its release on PS2).
Its also coming out just a little too soon after Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 3 and DOA4 - so the market for 3D fighters is still a little crowded.
However, Tekken 5 plus 2 new characters that you can play on the go? Well that sounds a lot more tempting and more likely to get even non-hardcore Tekken fans to re-buy. Also, Fighting games are ideally suted to quick bursts of on-the-go gaming, and T5: DR will only have SFA3 for competition - and thats 2D, so its pretty much got the market to itself.

Its a shame for anyone really into Tekken that wanted to play it with arcade-perfect graphics and their own Hori controller (or whatever), but ya gotta think mass-market these days.

It's funny, I wouldn't buy Tekken on the PS2 but I might just get it for the PSP.

..iam still playing T5:emb: ... i am using steve fox.. he's got some good low and mid and high combo's.. if you have good timing the side step is deadly..and few of his launcher are faster to executed the most other players

I have only played tekken 1 :chimp:
