That film was actually done rather well and didn't glamorize anything. The fact that 50-Cent has a movie disturbs me more than the fact he's got a game just like that new Coolio game "Fear & Respect" directed no less by John Singleton. I guess Hip/Hop is just taking over everything. Pretty soon Lil' John will get a video game called CRUNK MASTA' or something. :rolleyes:

...so uhh, where exactly is there "Good" Rap left then? And how do you mean Rap as in old school Rhymes & Rhythm (RUN DMC, Fat Boys, Doug E. Fresh), the gangsta Rap of the early 90's... or Hip Hop of another flavor? To me the whole scene was doomed when I saw Tupac and Dr. Dre in that California Love video that was a poor man's MAD MAX Beyond Thunderdome. At that point I knew a line had been crossed somewhere in the wastelands and things were moving more towards mainstreamed crap. I still listen to underground rock/garage bands, but have no idea where to go about procuring Alternative Rap much less any artists.

50 cent isnt hip hop, all this mainstream rap shit really isnt. Rapping has been said to be different in ways that are tough to explain. I mean listen to Q-unique and listen to the shit thats in mainstream now, its not even comparable, Unique would crush any of them dudes. Plus those psychotic beats.

I know its ignorant to down all that mainstream shit, but very rarely are there catchy beats. Like if you listen to eminem's encore, that album has rotten beats, the beats are so bad I don't even care anymore. Plus his woe of being a public enemy has gotten mad annoying. A good track is "I'm shady" Encore blows. The MM LP is something I need to pick up, probably his best release.

His label is paying the radio stations to play his singles in heavy rotation.

Hmm hard for me to say. All the Germans I know completely hate German Hip hop and from the few artists i've seen I can understand why, however There is 1 artists by the name of "Samy Deluxe" from Hamburg, Germany who i can say can hang(and outdo) with the Best MC's anywhere. However i'd like to go to the larger cities and see it for myself instead of wrongly judging the German scene.

p.s. French hip hop is constantly blaring through my headphones and speakers night and day. Can't get enough of it.

The French don't strike me as the type ..... I didn't think Germans would like it either....thats interesting in a way. I always figured Europeans would have better taste than that.... I hate its influence on kids over here... old rap I don't mind, but all this "I'm hardcore, I wuz poor, nows I gots moneys and I'm invincible" BS makes me wanna puke... especially since the people who imitate it are even further removed from reality than the rappers are.

On average, when I talk with most European hip hop fans(not just Germany), they prefer the non glitzy glamorous style of hip hop. Just the particular immediate area of Germany i live in is filled with ignorant country bumpkins who watch too much MTV. And back on the US tip for a second here - Immortal Technique and Brother Ali.

thats how it is here too of course, the people who are really into radio played rap, and mainstream hip-hop in general are usually very closed minded to other types of music. (from what I've seen anyhow personally) Two of my employees are that way as well, the only thing that crosses over for them is Pink Floyd and Sublime. They think everything else is crap, which is so ignorant.... but to me, that particular style of rap/hip-hop is built of ignorance anyhow...so it doesn't surprise me too much.

I don't know why, but when I think of "euro" music...all that comes to mind is techno / electronica / industrial. I did notice that Germany has a good punk following... which is nice to see.... I had no idea until I bought a Wizo CD back in HS...and then saw a live DVD with Bad Religion and NOFX in Germany. :buttrock:

I don't know about good, but there are a lot of people I can and do listen to. I don't really like anything but the southern sound though as to me they are more real than what comes from anywhere else. I would say I really like Hypnotize Minds. Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, Lil' Wyte, Frayser Boy. They just do it for me these days. I liked Ludacris, but Red Light District really let me down.

I'd rather listen to Chuck D bitch and whine about the state of rap than actualy listen to most of the stuff that's being put out.

After The Wu-Tang Dynasty fell off, Hip-Hop went from meh, to blah.

Lately, with Kanye West having mainstream success, that real underground sound is starting to come back. Hopefully this will continue to snowball, and that feeling I use to have with hip-hop will come back.
