I was just rifling through my mp3 collection today, and decided to look in my game soundtrack section. Coming across the redbook audio I ripped from both Battle Arena Toshinden 1 and 2, I completely forgot how good (albiet incredibly cheesy) some of these tracks were. Really takes me back to early days of the PSX.
Castlevania 64 had some memorable tracks or at least that one track with the drum makes me beleive so. I actually liked the game.
Although not forgotten, the soundtracks for FFVI and Chrono Trigger are bliss. Anyone know where I could dl them? :kekeke:
The OST by T's Music for Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder first come to mind. Most who have played those games love the Metal Soundtrack, but other than small limited pressings of the OST, it's not as easy as just throwing in the SCD game into a CD Player since it's streamed rather than Redbook Audio. Aaron Nanto had the LOT soundtrack up years ago on PC-Enginefx.com, but if it's still there in MP3 format I can never find it for download.
After that I'd have to say that while most who are worth a damn at least know of the Bare Knukles series if not played them (assuming they're younger than 24), it's stands to reason that they've heard the HYPE surrounding Yuzo Koshiro's electronica/techno soundtracks done on a cartridge.

This OST ^ was released in 2000 but after Mars Colony Music folded it's no longer in print and thus most do not have access to it. Therefore I'd consider it obscure/underappreciated by the masses.

It's Midi Music yes but bad ass none the less. The OST came with the "Silver" edition of Metal Gear Solid in Japan in 1997, other than the original CD releases of them. With MGS 3: Subsistence coming out and ppl getting introduced to the Pre-Solid entries, even know they'll be ppl who want the original music and it's fuckin' hard to get, of course unless you know where to download it but I sure as heck don't. Just glad I bought the Silver Edition MGS.
That's all that comes to mind right now though.

Toshinden 2 had a great OST.
Zero Divide had a very good OST, and probably no one ever listened to it. It took me ages to find it.
Vampire Savior has a great OST, like most Capcom games.
Virtua Fiughter games had great OSTs, but VF4 ruined it all in terms of music.
I also am probably one of the only people who bought the Cool Cool Toon OST - haha
Come to think of it Ultimate Destroyer BLAST WIND by TechnoSoft had a nice soundtrack to it, but if you have the game you can just throw the game itself into a CD Player since it's Redbook Audio.
Then who can forget the Zuntata soundtrack to the arcade game NINJA WARRIORS. Then there's the OST of...

also by Zuntata (obviously), though the music is remixed in a more electronica fashion rather than what was "In Game" but it still works well, not to mention it's the OST for Rastan Saga 1-3.

Hell yes. Now that I think about it Real Bout had a great soundtrack with Chon Su's and Duck King's being my favorite tracks.

This soundtrack is everything a soundtrack should be. It envokes so much passion, angst, despair and it makes you just want to go kill some communist heathens. Perfectly scored for such a game... but without a huge release most ppl have only heard the music while playing the game. The shit can fuck with you too especially if you're driving through the city and March of The Empire starts playing. Suddenly you're looking at roof tops and zooming in Sniper style at anything that moves around you. That car that's moving too slow is suspect and you find yourself gripping an AK-47 that's not there.

Actually yes, although it's sort of a secret. Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad did get an official OST release in Japan, and while 2nd Squad has great music, it's still not up to par with the first one, and made me wonder why the original never got an OST release. But hey, it turns out that they tossed in the tracks from the original Shock Troopers on the same CD as 2nd Squad. They had to skimp a bit to cram it all on there though, as pretty much every track only has one "loop" of the music, instead of the two loops that each track in 2nd Squad gets... :( but still, it's better than nothing.Quote:

- Riot Zone
- Shadow of the Beast (owning the original Amiga version, I was impressed with how nice it sounded on arranged on the CD).
There were tons from the Amiga that I enjoyed, but most ended up beeing title screens (Project X, Lotus 2) oh... And "Fury of the Furries" (not those furries), Turrican 2... However, going in the demos sections there are some good tunes there as well.
On the Neo, Pulstar and Blazing Star seems to stand out at the moment...
Hey since I dig 8-bit NES/Famicom music, PC Engine/TG16 (Hucards, not CD) music is pretty awesome in my book. I have ALL the HES files from Zophar for Winamp.
Several Hucard soundtracks I've heard (Burning Angels, Barunba, Knight Rider Special, Son Son II) all sound like late 1988 era NES/Famicom music.

I know there were two other years that HUDSON released these oddities, but I'm not sure which. You might find a track or two on one of those. If I remember correctly they were called Hudson Sampler Music Collection the one from 1992 was Vol. #2 Turbo Zone Direct used to give them away if your purchases were past a certain amount.
