Do you have homosexual friends??

By the way many people here talk about gays, I'm under the impression that they couldn't spend some times with someone homosexual.

I have a couple of friends who are gays and I'm perfectly fine with it. From the beginning I made it clear that I wasn't interested so there is no seduction between us. We meet in different occasions and I have even met their boyfriends. I'm glad I went though the usual repulsion men have in this kind of situation cause these friends are really interesting people.

So I was wondering is some members here are in the same case.

I suppose I might know some people who are gay, but its not something I'm concerned about so I don't ask.

I had a lesbian boss at one point, probably one of the best superiors I've ever worked for, although thats totally unrelated to her sexual preference.

Not for the last several years. It's not that I was avoiding homosexuals, but just that the people I hung out with are all straight (at least afaik).

A lot of my coworkers are gay/bisexual, but I don't really care one way or another. I don't socialize at work, way too much office drama.

At one point we had 5 or 6 gay employees out of ~100 people here. Was good friends with at least 3 or 4 of them. They have since quit over the last couple of years but now the big boss (Chief Scientific Officer) is gay. One of the smartest biotech minds you'll find.

And have a number of other openly gay friends. At least one of which was "married". So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Referring to the lead in to this thread, about how people use the word "gay" and "homo", you find that it's like most other things. If you say something is gay or don't be so gay, they don't mind at all as long as they know you're not a hater. Hell, gay people call each other some of the worst things, just like blacks do and other races. Not that I go around dropping "fag" bombs everywhere, I just don't worry so much about it that it makes me uncomfortable to be myself.

Now I agree with D-Lite on the use of "gay". I used it in front of gay people several times because it came naturally in some of my expressions (like "this is not a drink for gay" meaning this is a tough drink) and they never blamed me since they understood that it wasn't said to hurt them.

I've had quite a few. When I think about it, the number of gay people I know ends up being more-or-less their ratio in the general population --though not very many lesbians. Actually, Robert, you might find this interesting: I was extremely homophobic when I was in Jr. High (Conservative Mennonite Christian school), and a bit more moderate-homophobic in High School (Catholic). Then my Senior year I stopped really giving a damn (USC, politically moderate (formerly conservative) campus). Then I got to college and stopped using the word "gay" as a general putdown when it blew up in my face a few times. After that I ended up being best friends with a gay guy (the funny part about that was he came out when dating one of my own ex-g/fs before we started hanging out). Once we became friends I actually changed my opinion radically because the idea of my friend not having certain rights just didn't make sense anymore when I knew that (to me) he was no different than another person. He's now got his M.D.

Although they're both mods there's a big difference between D-Lite and Bobak. D-Lite is a chemist, he does experiments. Bobak on the other hand is a lawyer who's "experimented."
