Supposed to be the absolute best in-ear headphones made, and I'm thinking about buying a pair. I'm so tired of having to carry around huge headphones and needing an amp to get quality sound reproduction. Plus the battery life of a portable audio player without using an amp is terrible.

Has anyone ever tried Etymotics? I'm wanting to go with their ER-4 models, but I'm not sure if I should get the ER-4S model or the ER-4P model. The ER-4P outputs an increased bass response, but the ER-4S reproduces a more true to recording sound.

I'm also thinking about replacing my 20gb Ipod with this 1gb Sony player. I know it's not much storage, and I could get quite a bit more for that much money, but 40hrs of battery life with a built in FM tuner! Plus it has an OLED display something a shuffle does not.

I actually own a pair of Etymotics and they fucking rock. Totally worth the money and best way to get the most out of your iPod.

They're so fucking good that you won't be able to hear anything except the music or whatever you're listening to. I use it for when I go on the airplane and it's perfection. It's worth it.

Which model do you have? I can get the ER-4's for around $180 on ebay.

PS: I'll be in Orlando with my family in about a week... Do you ever goto Disney Quest? It's pretty much what I'm looking forward to.

Yep, it's the ER-4's I have. :p

Sweet dude and yes Disney Quest fookin' rocks. So many older games there, yet tons of awesome new games. I haven't been there in a while, but they usually update fairly often. Enjoy that as much as you can.

Yeah I've been to disney quest a few times. :D I actually bought a season pass last year, but since we're going later this year it has expired. The classic gaming section is amazing! It pretty much the only good arcade left that I've found.

The next best arcade I've found is Rocky's Replay at Casselberry, Florida (very close to where I used to live in an apartment, but still close to where I live now). They always seem to have the latest of great arcade games. :)

They'll probably have HOTD4 in no time.

I had one of these as soon as it hit the market.

I was going to write a review of it, but there was a couple showstoppers that made me return it and I forget to say anything about it.

I will sum it up like this.

Pros:

Very small

Sexay display

Mad crazy battery life

Cons

Only uses Usb 1.1 speeds. The thing takes for fucking ever to transfer music to.

Whilst the packaging mentions its WAV and MP3 compatible, what it neglects to mention is that it is all converted to the Atrac format when copied to the device. Plus you are you chained to that suckass SonicStage software.

I returned it for a 6 gig iPod mini. Bigger yes, but a much better device.

I seem to feel that way all the time. I just don't think another mp3 player out there can possibly beat the iPod.

I love having the iPod shuffle for working out and I use my iPod in my car.

iPod shuffle is where it's at, I have so much awesome music there's always a good song on whenever I use the shuffle.

I like listening to albums in order... I'm not too big a fan of mixes or "shuffle" mode.

Say for example I want to hear that hot single from Ying Yang Twins and Mike Jones on Southern Smoke 18... Now how many times am I going to have to hit the skip button on a shuffle to find that song? Too damn many. Now, if somebody offered me a shuffle for <$50 I'd probably buy it, paint it pink, and call it a day. Plus how many hours of battery life does a shuffle get? Something like 10-12hrs righ? I'm tired of that shit. I'm tired of reaching for my ipod and realizing the damn thing's dead again.

I think I'll import one of these gold models and see how it goes, if I don't like it... I'll get something else.

I've been wanting to pick up a fairly high-end set of headphones for a while now, and it will probably be these. I thought about getting a set of over-ear style headphones (as audiophiles swear by them), but that really doesn't make much sense seeing as I would pretty much only be using these with my iPod and I'd want something a bit more portable.

Edit: Actually, I was thinking of different, much more affordable pair. Hopefully they stack up similarly.

I'd bet those are better than anything I currently have... I have two pairs of the silver sony dj headphones, which are great but just draw too much damn power. I also have a set (had a set) of bose, I kinda broke them while putting them on...

Make sure you check teh ebay for these earphones. Don't worry about bidding against me... I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow and won't be able to accept packages. It looks like the ER-4's are going for between $100-$185. Not bad...

Panasonic will be releasing a new one whicjh has a display just like the one on the sony (the OLED display is even multi color). It is a small little square shaped player that uses SD cards for storage. You should check it out.

The er-4 is a brilliant earphone. I have the 4p, and love it.
definately get the 4P unless you plan on using a headphone amp with it though.

Im not very impressed with that sony player though.
Give the ipod shuffle another look. you can play in-order, not only random.
Plus itunes is MILES above any other mp3 player/transfer program.

I didnt like the lack of screen when i first saw the shuffle, but i bought one on a whim a few weeks ago and i love it. no screen is no problem, and because there is no screen, the buttons are bigger. the interface on all the other tiny flash players is REALLY shitty, with tiny poorly placed buttons.

That's a pretty sechy player. Do they make that one in the UK? Did you buy the japanese version? I'm now trying to decide between the sony and the panasonic... From what I've found the panasonic only supports 1gb cards max. If it could take 2gb I'd probably buy one.

Amazon UK. Comparing the pictures on amazon, it appears to be identical to the 507s even though it does look kinda different from the pictures posted above.

Yeah, I think they are exactly the same just without an FM tuner and different colors. Right now they only make the E507 in black/silver in the US... Plus I can't even use the japanese FM tuner model here because they use different frequencies over there.

LOL. Now I have two NW-E407s. I managed to talk a local sony centre down to amazon.co.uks price (got a black one), got home and amazon had shipped a day early. Luckily UK Distance selling rules have a cooling off period in which you can return items for full refund within 7 days.

Its pretty sweet. Charged in about an hour to full capacity. As expected transferring tracks takes an age. about 1 hour to fill the thing.

There are 3 ways to transfer tracks. SonicStage, Vaio Music Transfer and MP3 file manager. Vaio Music Transfer requires sonic stage, I am not sure if MP3 File manager does (I had already installed SonicStage). MP3 File Manager is installed to the device, so I would assume SonicStage isnt required to allow you to run it on any computer.

I havent tried transferring using SonicStage, but it appears that mp3 files are being transferred directly, just packaged in the OpenMG system. File sizes only differ between a few kbytes and the device lists the MP3 and bitrate when played back.

MP3 File Manager appears to be the quickest and most reliable. Although I havent run the same ammount of tracks through MP3 File Manager.

Theres also a firmware upgrade available that fixes some bug with repeat and adds a new clock display.
