As much as I DON'T like the Braves, I have to respect that they've locked down an impressive 14th straight division title. Anyone have a breakdown on which divisions square off and which one gets to take on the Wild Card team?

Also congrats to the Angels for locking down their division. Though, right now all eyes are on the AL East with Boston and New York duking it out for first place. I'm hoping the Indians can go on a tear and lock down the Wild Card if not the AL Central but I don't see them pulling the rug out from under the White Sox.

I was just looking over the standings and was amazed to see that EVERY team in the NL East is currently sitting above .500 :eek:

Meh anyway....since my Reds have been relugated to the near basement of the NL Central yet again, I gots to root for my second favorite team....C'MON CLEVELAND! :D

I'm loving the fact that we clinched in Oakland. There's nothing like a great divisional rivalry, and winning the West back-to-back in THEIR house is the great source for that.

I hope we either play the Yankees or the White Sox. I don't think we could beat Boston. Cleveland is a dangerous team, but they're starting to lose games lately.

I say let the 4 be tied through Sunday.
Let them wear down each other while we go into the ALDS plenty ready to play.

Here's the recipe for you guys that want to get a head start and start cooking tonight...

Crow Pie:

1 crow
stuffing of your choice
salt and pepper
shortening
flour
2 Pie crust mixes
2-3 hard-boiled eggs

Stuff the crow. Loosen joints with a knife but do not cut through.

Simmer the crow in a stew-pan, with enough water to cover, until nearly tender, then season with salt and pepper. Remove meat from bones and set aside.
Prepare pie crusts as directed. (Do not bake)

Make a medium thick gravy with flour, shortening, and juices in which the crow has cooked and let cool.

Line a pie plate with pie crust and line with slices of hard-boiled egg. Place crow meat on top. Layer gravy over the crow. Place second pie dough crust over top.
Bake at 450 degrees for 1/2 hour.

Reality is, the west is better than the east. The Rangers and Mariners have better records than the Blue Jays, Orioles and D-Rays. Additionally, the Yankees play only two teams the final month of the season with a record over .500

With only a handful of games remaining, the San Diego Padres are playing .500 ball, yet find themselves 4 full games in first place ahead of the second place Giants. So, it's looking more and more like 81- 81 will, indeed, win the NL Worst.

I'm not sure, however, that the Padres will end the season with a .500 record. So, I guess the question is, really, will 80-82 be enough to win the NL West?

I like the Padres, though, and have always have had a spot in my heart for them. I want to see them do well, but Moores has to open that squeeky clasped shut wallet of his and spend money on players, putting some decent money on the field.

I will say this though, the Padres DEFINATELY don't have the budget or the name players that we do - they overachieved somewhat this year. Now they have two of the top NL starters in Peavy and Eaton and a great closer, they have a real good second baseman and an up and coming shortstop and then Giles, but they don't have the talent that the Angels do - yet they have their division all but sewn up.

Regardless, the Padres are making history before our eyes. They now sit one game under .500 at 78-79, yet lead their division by four games.

A few posts back I thought the Padres would win more than half their games with such a weak schedule remaining, but now I'm not so sure. They have been playing lousy this past week and don't seem to be up to the challenge of playing .500 ball for the year.

I doubt many people realize just how bad the division would be if they didn't get the benefit of beating up on each other.

The Padres have a chance to make history tonight at Petco Park. With a victory over the Giants, the San Diego Padres can clinch the NL West and climb to an even .500 at the same time.

The NL East will feature Florida and Washtington fighting to stay out of the cellar, but both teams are currently two games over .500.

This could be the year one entire division's teams finish above .500 (NL EAST) while another division's teams (NL WEST) finish below .500.

Will this be historic, pathetic, or historically pathetic? Thoughts?

I managed to scarf 1 ALCS ticket if the yankees can:

1. Make the Playoffs.
2. Win the AL EAST
3. Win THe ALDS and get Home Field Advantage in the ALCS
4. Get to a seventh game.

When I still lived on the east coast, I managed to get 4 tickets to the Yankees first playoff game since 1981, Game 1 of the 1995 ALDS against the Mariners. What an amazing night that was as you can imagine after 14 years of no playoffs for the Yanks. And you should've heard the fans reaction to seeing Mattingly come on the field, his last hurrah.

I've since been to 2 playoff series here when the Yanks played Oaklandd and saw 2 Game 5 Yankee wins. Oakland sucks. You know how easy that was to get tickets for? They didn't even sell out one of the games :oh_no:

My favorite game was when I attended the Angels World Series Game against the Giants in '02. Wasnt the final game, but was memorable nonetheless.

First off, "luxury tax" doesn't go to teams. Revenue sharing money does. And yes, $20 million alone went specifically to the Royals. the Yankees contributed $70 million to revenue sharing.

When Steinbrenner bought the Yankees from CBS in 1973, the Yanks barely cleared 1 million in attendance. So the Boss makes big changes including bringing in the marquee names like Reggie Jackson and looky looky.

Your statements do nothing to endear anyone to the plight of the crap team. Of course not every owner will put everything into the team. So what does that mean, teams that do care should suffer? That's an absolutely shithead stupid way of looking at it. Because some owners are dumb asses in it for only the money everyone should feel sorry for them? No. I'm sorry, that is exactly the opposite of what COMPETITION is.

I think baseball needs to do something, but that something is not a salary cap but a salary MINIMUM. Keep the revenue sharing and luxury tax penalties but if someone wants to blow $200 million fine, let them pay that and the tax. Yanks will take 2 of 3. Johnson pitches on Saturday (4-0 against Boston this year) and the Yanks are good against Wells (pitches tonight). Jeter, Posada, ARod, and Sheffield are well over .300 each against Wells. And they're all right-handed in Fenway park. Expect at least 2 HRs from that crew tonight.

And the Yanks bullpen is in much better shape.

I bet Cleveland takes 2 from the Sox.
