I sometimes watch this movie and wonder if it's meant to be funny in parts or if it's ok to laugh. Not that it isn't funny, but... you know.
I think what makes this such a fun movie is that the characters stop just short of being cartoons.
I think many of the characters (with the exception of Pedro) have reached a nirvana of sorts; They're so out of touch with reality, but they don't know it and they don't seem to care.
Terrible writing.
The characters themselves have a lot of potential, but a lot of it is squandered with a story that goes nowhere, and essentially has no resolution because theres no real problem to begin with. Its like an SNL skit thats runs 90 minutes too long.
I didnt think Napoleon Dynamite was say hilarious more of a quirky comedy. The type that makes you chuckle but never really bursting in your sides. I guess it's all from personal experience(chated online, taken tae kwon do/rex kwon do, ran for office in high school, were in the talent show, etc.)Quote:

those type of quotes caught on like wildfire, i think thats what made the movie so popular.

I think the part about the characters reminding us of ourselves or others is very true.
I have a friend who dresses, looks, and acts like Napoleon. It's cruel but true. He even refuses to watch the movie.
One of my ex-coworkers reminds me alot of the has-been-never-was uncle.
As conceited as it sounds, Hell, Napoleon and Kip remind me of myself in ways :kekeke:

i thought it was a great movie but i didnt get the uncle rico character at all. i didnt understand why he was so jealous of napolean (or if he just hated him because he didnt show respect) and i didnt get what his whole business was about. was he sleeping with some of the people he sold to?
the are a couple great scenes. like when they are proving the durability of the tuperware. "i cant do it" *sadness* lol then it cuts to kip shattering it under the wheel of the car.
ive only seen it once and i had other things on my mind at the time.
Ah, the "I can't tear it" was great.
If you don't find this movie funny someone must have tainted it for you.

harold and kumar go to white castle shits all over napoleon, napoleon is just a "trendy" movie, a few people said it was good so every stupid person says it's good, it's the fucking norah jones of movies....
The movie itself was enjoyable. I just don't like the shit that it spawned (like I <3 Tots t-shirts, people quoting lines from it a hundred times a day, and the such).
I just watched h&k and while funny to me it wasnt nearly as funny ND. H&k made me chuckle here and there but no real lol moments. Maybe its funnier if you smoke pot so you can relate to the characters situation.Quote:

It's just an independant movie that caught on with the masses.
People like it because it's not like anything they saw before and they actualy bought into the marketing to "Gulp" try something different.
We grew up watching the slightly differnt plots with slightly different actors to the point where we already knew what was going to happen.
If more people watched Indies, they'd understand it better.
I thought the movie was ok, an average cult classic. What i don't like is people who automatically praise a movie just because it's independant. Yeah independant films can suck just as much as main stream

I saw it when it first came out at my local independent theater back in August. the only reviews I'd read about it were mixed, but I figured "why not?" Sure like all ppl Craig Ross Jr. is directing things for the Studios now, but those efforts lack the RAW "In Your Face" feeling/look that this film did. Sure there are pleanty of turds in the INDIE & Underground Cinema world, but I'd rather see a bunch of almost talanted-to-talanted unknowns + maybe a B Star in a movie that's got spunk that never quite makes the mark than to have to sit through yet another studio spun piece of shit that's only taken seriously because someone like Brad Pitt is the headliner. Napoleon Dynamite is far from a great flick, hell I hated it the first time I saw it in all honesty... but it grew on me and I went back to it. Then I liked it when I saw I was expecting too much from it. If you want to find interesting gems like the 5 HOUR LONG "Work Print" (w. timecode at bottom) of Apocalyspe Now or films forgotten then you need to look around. What I can't stand are ppl who will watch something like KILL BILL for the thousandth time but won't give the time of day to films from the very eras QT is borrowing a lot of his inspiration from. Or those who hate on a film because it was made two decades before they came out their daddy's nuts. A good film (or at least interesting film) is a good film and screw whether or not it's contemporary or waiting for the accepted film geeks like Tarantino to make it OKAY to see the stuff.

There isn't an indie theater anywere in my neck of the woods...
The first time I saw Napoleon Dynamite playing in a theater was in the New Orleans French Quarter. There's a trendy mall with Gucci and such with one or two screens, I wasn't able to make a showing but wish I had... My actual first time seeing the film was a dvdrip from the internet. I still haven't seen the real dvd. :kekeke:

haha yeah like run lola run. if there has ever been a more pretentious, drawn out, stupid plotted, poorly acted, overrated, pile of shit indie film i have yet to see it. every single person out there who's ever seen it will most likely claim it to be this awesome piece of cinema. but as far as i'm concerned watching someone rob a store and having a different outcome every time doesn't make for a good film, it makes for a pile of trash. i've watched my fair share of indie films and try as i might i manage to somewhat keep up with what comes along on that market. and it's tough as a lot of films come out and then drop off the face of the earth. but every once in a while you find good ones like subway stories. and then you find stupid ones like run lola run.Quote:
