Nintendo Revolution to be backwards capable

In a recent event nintendo president Satoru Iwata shed a few details on the revolution

#1 it will utilize WiFi like the DS is doing.
#2 It will be able to play GC games
#3 It is being claimed to be very developer friendly.

Despite my curiosity for #3 im pretty glad with these few details. I think Nintendo is going to take its time getting on the floor as usual. Hopefully they'll use this to run the cube til death and fix broken partnerships with other companies. Although the big N has said this a few times now i'll keep hoping

Any word if Nintendo is still anti-online gameplay ?

The article was real vague on it. It's in the newest game informer if you're really interested for yourself.

BTW this issue is really showing the decline of gaming. So many ass titles are coming soon. these previews make me want to vomit Except for the new zeld aYAHO!!

There could be many things the wireless functioning could mean. It could be for net play, or it could be for a DS gameboy player type thing going on.

I think this will be the generation where Nintendo adopts the online community. Besides them having aluded to doing so, it's also typical Nintendo style - they did, after all, wait an extra generation before adopting optical technology.

As for being backwards compatible - I'm very glad to hear this. If I put one more console underneath my TV, I don't think I'll ever get laid again. :oh_no:

Nintendo will make killer hardware and shit games for it. :shame: Maybe one game will come along every two years, but that seems to be Nintendo’s reputation. :rolleyes:

Nintendo always said they would join the online bandwagon when it "makes sense" (read become profitable) and it is just barely getting there.

Just look at the facts Sony PS2 Online is pretty inexistant and even if Xbox LIve is considered a succes it is just above One million users... still pretty small.

I think that the enxt generation is the real online "Revolution" ( :eye: ) that is bound to happen.

I think that this might be Nintendo's "online" generation.

THey hold off on technilogical advances until all of the bugs can be worked out.

Backlit screens (Battery Consumption) and Opical Media (Piracy, Horrendus Load Times) come to mind.

Now that Online console gamming is just becoming usable, They can adopt it.

Dammit I was hoping it would be televised!

I hope that it's Free too...

I realy hate the idea of paying to play online.

The other great thing about REvolution becoming Backwards compatable is:

GCN machines will be about $30 Each.

That is good news for me. I heard that these things are as reliable as a HONDA.

A million users is $50 Million Dollars coming in every year.

That's pretty friggin successful for the few servers that it takes MS to actually run Live.

This is in the lastest issue of Play magazine

why make the GC backwards compatible, I mean by the time that revolution comes out the GC well cost like what, $50. It just seem pointless to me

From stuff I have seen Nintendo say about online gaming, it's almost always along the lines of...People don't want to pay to play games online.

I remember seeing something talking about the "Revolution" being the controller, it being a touch pad like the DS that could be programmed to have what ever button layout the developer wanted

You guys are talking about online gaming like it's new or something, true it's new to consols but it's been around for years on the PC, and it's proven it can make money...so I don't think thats why Nintendo is holding off on online play.

You know I could really see them using the song for a Revolution commercial. But keep the words, I mean think of it...Revolution will be going against the establishment (PS3) and if it's something truly revolutionary it should go against the statuesque.

Nintendo sold hundreds of thousands of Broadband adaptors for Gamecube and they fuck their loyal customers.

First Nintendo apologizes for the N64 and say that they will not make the same mistakes again with Gamecube.

Now Nintendo apologizes for the Gamecube and say that the same mistakes won't be made with the Revolution.

Ha, Nintendo. Same stubborn fucks they've always been. Only problem is, there's not so many loyal customers anymore...

Great news about backwards compatability. That means there will automatically be 5 great games on Revolution at launch. That will help hold people over as they release great new Nintendo-exclusive games at a rate of 2 per year. I wish it was backwards compatable all the way back to N64. Then there would be at least 9 great games at launch.

You got some linky to back that up? As far as I recall, the GC BBA sold for shit and that's the reason most GC developers choose not to include online gameplay in their products (see: TimeSplitters 3).

thats because there are more quality games on the cube.

That's up to you. If not for Street Fighter and the upcoming SNK stuff, I wouldn't have bothered to get an Xbox at all. But before RE4, the last time I turned on my GC was Zelda. I think the next time I turn it on will likely be the next Zelda.

There's no denying that when I turn on the GC, I love it. I just don't have reason to turn it on often enough for my taste.

Maybe true, but it only takes ONE hand to count the good xbox games. And every one of those ?10 GC games are REALLY good, not just "good."

that cool Nintendo Revolution is going to be backwards capable i just hope this time the controller layout for the Revolution is better i did not really like the gamecube controller that much :crying:

Yeah it's a small list, but no love for Metroid Prime?

The new dev stuff is going to be based on the current GC dev software so it will be more familiar to developers (as opposed to creating a whole new system for them to learn).

Cant remember where I read that. I think it was gamasutra.

It being backwards compatible will be very helpful for Nintendo. That way the mature Zelda game will help a whole lot. I still don't think or have heard confirmation that the Xbox 360 will be backwards compatible. Last I hear it was a problem because the Xbox uses the Nvidia card.

I loved the N64, probably my favorite system of all time. I bought a GCN on lauch day, and i must say, i was impressed ( from the start). Now, i own 5 games for it( Luigi's Mansion, Metal Gear twin snakes, Zelda collecters edition, Resident Evil 4, and Prince of Persia 2). I hated the new zelda, i hated the new mario, i hated the metroid prime games.

Imo, Nintendo screwed up with the GCN, everytime i go to buy a new game, i always go to the GCN section first, and i have yet to find a game to get.

so i am going to be very cautious with the revolution.

Hell, other than online fighters, you can count the really good Xbox games on less than 2 fingers.

But I wish people would stop trying to justify Nintendo by pointing at Microsoft. Neither system has as many good games as they should. I like both of them, but neither of them are good enough by themselves to be the only system I own.

What are you talking about there are a lot of good Xbox games...well more then 10 any ways. But your right about the GC games, the good ones are some of the best games to come out this generation

As far as I know, the BBA was sold out, but not because people were buying it for on-line play, but as a tool to run homebrew stuff and backed-up games on the GC.
