Upcoming Next Gen Consoles: Your Stance?

Me?

I don't care about any new releases for the PS2, XB or GC... I think the last Next Gen title I was excited about was Lament of Innocence...

I own 2 Xbox Systems, fully modded with ROMs and a few Xbox titles on the HDD... the newest being Halo 2.

I never played any of them for more than 5 mins...

I hate console gaming anymore... its basically the same 3D crap over and over again - which is why I prefer handhelds...

I'm excited to see what the PSP and DS have in store for them...

Everyone is all hyped up about the thought of Xbox 2, Revolution and PS3...

I could care less.

I'm interested in the Xbox 2 because I expect it to bring convergence : one hybrid console who also stores Divx, mp3s, records TV in HD... All the features most won't likely be in the Xbox 2 (and some are already available in the Xbox Next) but I am really waiting for such a unit (sorta what the Nuon tried to do at some point).

I only care for Nintendo's system just because I know there will be at least one Zelda game on it. But yeah I could care less about the other two. As for games there are quite a few that interest number one being the new Zelda game of course. But I see what you mean with no difference in most games. Games are made for sheep not gamers anymore :crying:

I still think Sony would have sold more units in the US than Asia.

I've been fully dissapointed by this generation. The MGS games have been the only things that really made me feel special.

If this gen is a set-up for the next one, count me on the sidelines. Watching.

The 32 bit era (counting the Neo games released in this time frame as well) was awesome.


The Post 32-bit era (including the neo ) was nothing but rehashes, corporate buyouts and customer dissasatisfaction.

There have been some highlights, but even some one who was an adult during the 8bit days will tell you that videogaming has gone down the shithole for people with our intrests.

I really don't care about any new system except revolution since it's like it's name suggests.... revolutionary, well actually i just want to see what type of stuff you can do with it and the DS, PS3=same old bullshit, xbox2= same old bullshit revolution= a slight chance that it won't be the same old bullshit. But really the last console to really make me happy was Dreamcast, before that SNES. But Tonk is right the only interesting things going on in gaming are in the portable races.

I voted Revolution because they are the only one's that don't have Madden or Epic posterboying for them. Other than that I'm interested in Condemed and Elder Scrolls which should be multiplatform unless somebody buys exclusive rights...

If we're already going to have online Darkstalkers, KOF, and SF3 this generation, it's hard for me to really get hyped up for a next generation. I'm sure I'll buy whatever system the next Silent Hill, MGS, and Castlevania is on, without really caring about the system itself.

Other than that, the next thing I'll really get excited about is something totally new that hasn't been seen before, so it's impossible to predict what it will be or when it will arrive. Like when the first Resident Evil came on the scene; I hadn't been waiting for it, but once I saw and played it, it changed everything about my expectations from a video game (if that sentence makes any sense). We didn't really get anything like that this generation...maybe next generation.

You are such a fanboy. Like the Revolution won't be the "same old bullshit." It will just add a gimicky twist. There will be Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, and etc. All the worn franchises that Nintendo is known for.

Oh and I am of course going with the PS3. I hope its more like the PSOne and less like the PS2 though. I will be looking forward to the Revolution because I still want to see a MMORPG Pokemon game.

I'll go with nintendo... thier systems don't have 100 B titles and no A titles.

10 A titles (nintendo)>100 B Titles (Sony)

But staying with tradition of the last 10 years, I won't buy any systems until the next, next generation starts.

I have no desire, or need to pick up any of the 3 big next gen systems. As most have said before me, the current generation was nothing short of a disappointment. Some diamonds in the rough but 99% of it was rehashed concepts we've seen a million times and soulless 3D hack jobs that contained nothing that could even be confused with creativitiy and/or solid game play.

I have a fist full of Xbox and PS2 titles that actually intrest me (probably 20 in all) and those only hold my intrest for so long. I probably pick up an Xbox 360 or PS3 at some point in time (probably when they hit the used bin for $75) but for now I'll stick with my "outdated" games.

The only mainstream games I'm really heavily into are FPS. As such the pickings are slim on consoles, and what is available is usually not even approaching the quality of the PC versions (with exceptions). I'm really curious about the box versions of Doom 3 and Battlefield (the latter of which is at this time looking pretty bad, but I have a feeling those screens are just really early).
Basically I can't think of a reason to pick up the new systems. Which doesn't mean I won't, but until my PC is pushed to the limit and can't handle the new shit whatsoever, it seems pointless. Something really epic will have to come along if it's console exclusive, like Resident Evil 4 or (it's looking like) the new Zelda.

I don't buy system the first year of its release. I will wait till they have a price drop + see which system has more exclusive games until I take the plunge.

Hate to sound like a fan-boy but im really now interested in the revolution. Reason being is i see msoft and Sony not trying anything new. They make for the mainstream and don't care about gamers. Nintendo IMO is trying to save video games. They're trying new and bold ideas with every system and some are a hit some aren't. In Japan Nintendo still does fairly well and thats because i think the japanese are a little more apreciative of Nintendo's off the wall ideas. Sony and M-soft need to try some new ideas and stop creating rehash after rehash of stupid crap no one cares about.

I like the current Xbox best because of LIVE and also because it's good to see non Japan based developers do things well on a console for ONCE

I like the hard drive. I always disliked memory cards.

I do not enjoy PC gaming, I never have. And as a console gamer, it's good to get much of the best PC games in what is more or less their true form on my console on my TV.

So, since 2D is dead, and that was Japan's strength, I guess I go with the new Xbox.

Nintendo rehashes alot if not more than those both together. Why is it when there is a Nintendo sequel coming out its god's gift to gaming, but when someone else is about to release a sequel it equals crap?

That's called inflation. Like how a coke was $0.15 in 1956, but $1.09 today.

Im interested in all of em. I always own all the avail systems cus of exclusivity on some games. Im a gamer, will be one till i die, and if there is a AAA title out there I HAVE to play it. I dont care if its the only game the system has going for it. I also have to play it at the highest possible quality level, progressive scan, hdtv, widescreen, digital surround. I dont want to feel like I missed out on some of the experience.

I voted for xbox2 cus xbox is my fav current system(although psp is a close second). But God of War renewed my faith in sony's system, so I'm hyped up to see how they play the next round by being able to see everyone elses hand first b4 thier system is released. Microsoft looks to be really taking Japanese developers for xbox2 though. That Mistwalker project realy has me interested, Perfect Dark Zero, new rumored Killer Instinct. I also have read that True Fantasy Online was pulled to redo it for xbox2.

This E3 is gunna be great..I cant wait to go. Hopefully Microsoft wont pull the bullshit they did with Halo2 last year and kept xbox2 behind closed doors.

I hope Capcom and Snk have their arcade cabs set up like they did last year. There was some awsome competion for SF:3rd and KoF03. The last day at E3 all I did was get my ass kicked at SF:3rd and picked up some new tricks.

I played MGS2 already and MGS3 is the only game that interests me on the PS2. Buy a system for just one game? Yeah right. I bought the DC for SF3 3S and thats pretty much the only game I dig on it still. It too was a disappointment for me (its currently collecting dust in my closet).

Overall, I'm out. But if I do for some reason decide to buy one I'm pretty sure it will be the PS3.

Uhhhh, how much are Neo carts??? How much was Snes when it first came out...Saturn....Genesis.....NES?? Looking on the back of an og genisis box with sonic packed in, it lists Sonic(the first one) as an msrp of $49.99. How much are xbox, psp, ps2 games???? Now I have heard that next gen are gunna be a bit more expensive $59/69, but they are gunna be blue-ray or hd-dvd, the lvl of overall quality in video and sound is well worth it in my eyes. Video games are becoming the same as having a high quality home theater set up, and I for one am glad to see it happen.

New technology is always a bit on the expensive side, but thats the price you gotta pay to jump in the game from the get go. There will not be a crash. Video games make more than Hollywood evey year now, its a main streem form of entertainment like television and going to the movies.

I'm on the other end for the DC. I play SFIII 3rd most of the time, and up until 6 months ago, it was one of only two ways to play that game... And the other way was a little too pricey.

Other than SFIII 3rd, I have SSFIIX, Vampire Chronicle (another game to be made obsolete by a PS2 version coming up), Twinkle Star Sprites, House of the Dead 2, Cool Cool Toon, Giga Wings, Mars Matrix... I don't know, it treated me well.

It feels too early. It's ike they're forcing the next generation on us without letting the life cycle of the consoles expire naturally. For example, Xbox Live is finally at the point of maturation and the current systems (Xbox and Gamecube) seem more than capable of pleasing most consumers in terms of graphics and sound capability. All I really want is more creativity the next crop of games and perhaps more enviornmental realism, not in terms of graphics but in terms of interactivity with the enviornment. Graphics have sort of reached a plateau with this generation and it's hard to get excited about the next generation of systems based on hardware capability alone.

Because Nintendo make good games. Not all Sony and Microsoft sequels suck but most do. Anyways Nintendo always have the better games period.

No the problem they have is they can't appeal to the masses. There are a lot of people playing games that never had a Nintendo nowadays, and they don't want Nintendo. If Nintendo could capture them they could really be a force again. It's highly unlikely though sense the majority of the video game audience has magically materialized since 1995.

I didn't vote, but really, I'm not all that hyped about the whole situation. It seems like it's too soon for Nintendo and Microsoft to be bringing out new hardware, while Sony is way over due. The pile of shit that is the PS2 is basically holding back gaming as a whole.

So really, as much as I don't like Sony as a game company, I'm more curious than anything to see what they come up with.

About Nintendo, well I agree they make good titles. However, I am getting tired of them using the same franchises. Sure metroid is excellent, and so is smash brothers, and Zelda 64. The New zelda looks interesting, but I've been deeply disssapinted with Mario 64, Sunshine, Yoshi's story, Luigi's mansion, Mario kart.

Same titles same IPs. Some are great, but I'm seeing less quality every time in terms of quantity for my taste.

I'm looking forward to interesting proyects like Lumines for PSP seems interesting, Alien Hominid (though already released) takes the concept of it's genra a little different. U know projects like Rez.

for Sony, right now I'm waiting on Wanda and colossus and hoping it gets a US release. I've heard good things about it. Same thing for ICO, again a game I haven't heard but am interested on. Other than that, I'm not that interested on Sony's console.

As for Sony's next console, I personally don't like the new consoles because they used CD's or DVD's. Mediums of information that I don't preferably like. They scratch too easy. Blue ray seems interesting. It looks like they have some sort of protection like the DD discs (N64 anyone). So I might go into sony.This reason alone is why don't entirely like the current consoles that much.

Which brings me to the next console, the xbox. the hard drive thing with the modded xbox thing is interesting, and having your games already in the box is a plus. I mean you don't have to deal with them physically. Add to that, the fact that xbox live is getting better and better. Hopefully lag can be completly taken care of for 2d fighters from SNK.

Xbox 360 looks like an interesting concept.

I'll be looking from the sidelines as well, just like I've been for this current generation. And will get into it probably by the ending cycle just like I am right now. I don't like to spend that much money anyway.

Exactly. I don't give a shit about the next gen of stuff. Fuck, I only have a PS2 for Battle Gear 2, Shutoku Battle 0 & Pro Evolution Soccer 4.

I don't buy much of anything now for the current systems, except once in a blue moon. If I do ever buy anything so called "Next Gen" it'll be because my kid (be it Harlock or Fyana) wants whatever is contemporary. Me I'm 95% Retro and 5% current.

Fuck the next gen, cause it's not "Next Gen" at all... just more of the same. Someone let me know when we truly can interface our sensorium of thought with a gaming deck, and no controller is needed at all... the gaming world unfolding onto a chess board that becomes not much different than the Holo-Dec on Star Trek or TEH MATRIX. I will be getting the new Playstation for sure, I mean, I don't see how you can be interested in today's games and not own a PS2 and I can't imagine that changing next gen. They just have to many good exclusives. A new Metal Gear game ensures my money.

Nintendo might do something interesting, might flop. I'll end up getting their next system most likely just for the first party games. That's one thing you can always count on them for.

Microsoft surpised me this gen, so I'm interested in what they do next. But to be honest, the Xbox has been a Third Strike machine for me personally for a few months now, and I barely play it anymore. If the next Xbox isn't backwards compatible then I might just forget it. It's hard to say at this point though.

I'm curious to see what the Revolution will be. If there's good games on each platform, then I'll buy all tree, like I always do. :rolleyes:

I'll be skipping the next generation, or at least standing at the sidelines. I'm not very excited about any of the new consoles, If i decide to get a new system i'll probably go with Nintendo (i'm a fanboy, i wont lie) unless one of the other 2 systems is really great.

I'm just kinda "meh" towards games now. I still like 'em, i'd just like to work on getting some more quality arcade stuff though.

I didn't own a PS2 until 2003, an Xbox until about a year ago, and a Gamecube until this past Christmas. I'll probably be a few years behind with the new consoles too.

I don't care about graphical improvement. I can do even with the PS2.

the Revolution may be interesting, but I'm not holding my breath over it.

Even tho I prefer my games to be in 2D and have sprites instead of polygons, stuff like Resident Evil 4 and Doom 3 gives the whole 3D genre a different/better spin, at least for me. Specially RE4 managed to slightly change my mind about 3D cinematic/exploring-type of horror survival games, that's something I never thought would happen.

Other than that I agree, there's too much recycling of tried-and-proven concepts (action adventures, etc.) and WAYYY too few arcade-ish games that follow the good old "a minute to learn, a lifetime to master" formula. I don't care for simulations and real-life graphics, after all these games are responsible for the hardware craze of today with their "pushing the limits" bullshit that in reality is just another way to empty ppls' pockets by forcing them to buy yet another chunk of plastic and silicone just to get a slightly higher res and even more polygons.

In short, I don't care for any of the next-next-gen consoles at the moment, even more as I dunno why they come up with new consoles at all, the existing hardware still has ressources left for good new stuff. Dev'ers should learn to tweak what's there instead of being lazy asses by demanding more ram and more CPU power.

You ever get the feeling that next-gen consoles are synonymous with better graphics and no improvement of game-play?

I voted that i'm staying out. My list of Neo, DC, Saturn, PSX etc games are way too long to be concerned with new games. Plus I want to get a PC-Engine in a couple of months so thats where the cash will be going.

Thats basically how I feel.

Right now I'm perfectly happy with my Xbox GC and PS2 and dont really feel the need for current 3D graphics to be any better.
Even on the PS2 - by far the 'weakest' (graphically) of the 3, games like ICO, Transformers, Ratchet & Clank, Shadow Of Rome etc still look good enough to satisfy the graphics whore in me.
Last generation it was a bit different, when the PSone and Saturn ended their runs it felt like it was time for them to go. They were both shaky, unpolished 'first steps' into the 3D world with wobbily polygons and in-game characters that barely looked human. Now that things have been refined so that environments are solid, well-textured and populated by people that actually look like people, the next generation is just 'smoothing off the edges'.

The only type of game that I can see gaining any real benefit next gen are Dynasty Warriors - type games.
Which I actually love ...... so....uhh ...... yea.

Oh well, I voted for PS3 because the PS2 has been my favorate console this generation - but I really dont care.

XBOX: I have one and I have absolutely zero interest in any game released on it. The 2D stuff are ports that are available on other machines and the 3D stuf is absolute crap

Gamecube: All the previous games of the A title franchises were way better.. Super mario kart, Mario World, Star Fax, Super metroid, Zelda, etc. The rest of the B games are even worse.. Who buys that crap anyway ??

PS2: Boring, I don't really know why, but just plain boring. The square stuff is uninteresting and misses inspirement. Tony Hawk, EA games, GTA ? Meh, boring.

So this time I'll probably skip them all, thinking I have grown to old for gaming or something. Every now and then I'll fire up my neo and that's probably it.

Gaming has gone to shit.

I would really love to get sucked into a game again, but it doesn't work anymore.
