Seeing as Brazilians/Brasilians are the biggest minority in Japan
They get their backs broken picking tea all day for the Japanese. :kekeke:
j/k I'd like to know myself.
Dunno about Brazilians... but the Half Japanese/Half Brazilians get treated like shit from the way the 1996 Masato Harada film KAMIKAZE TAXI tells it,
http://img123.exs.cx/img123/5124/Kamikaze-Taxi.jpg
which is a two parts action drama and 1 1/2 parts Documentary, shot in a documentary fashion. It deals with all of Japan's racisim towards the "Half Breeds" when Kantake a Taxi Driver ends up on an unsual journey with a down on his luck Yakuza Gangster who tired to protect one of his whores going against the Yakuza Chain of Command... and the story ties into a Fudamentalist Wacko who's in the Diet, who knew Kantake's Dad in WWII, amongst other stuff. The film was shown in 1999 at the San Francisco Film Festival, and became available through Mail Order website in the late '99 early 2000. *I bought my Video CD copy @ BLUE LASER.COM and they might still have some in back stock or be able to do a re-order if you're interested. Apparently director Harada spent from 1994-1996 making the film and released it late in '96. Probably not what you were looking for, but then again it's the only film I've seen that didn't try to be politically correct about Japan's racists attitude towards other cultures, and especially "half breeds" between their nationality and another. Although Takashi Miike touched on some of this in his film with a Brazilian actor and Hong Kong Hottie Michelle Reis in City of Lost Souls as well as constantly making social commentary on it in his other lurid/violent tales like Rainy Dog and Ley Lines.
MERCENARY X99
afaik the biggest minority is korean, followed by chinese then perhaps brazilian.
most of these brazilians are japanese descendants since Brazil has the largest minority of japanese outside Asia.
If you ever watched Excel Saga and know about the character Pedro, then thats exactly how they are treated over there.
I met some really really cool Brazilian Japanese guys in Japan. Really awesome dudes.
It's my understanding that they get treated like second class citizens.
and what's the deal with the Israelis selling cheap jewellery on the street?

It's funny you mentioned that. I saw the same thing, when I went to Osaka back in 2002.
I still can't believe I actually met someone from Bellevue, WA in the city of Kobe also. F'in weird.
Anyway, i believe it is true that Koreans are the number one minority there.
well i would like to know koreans are treated in japan. i think filipinos make up some large population out there too because of oversea jobs.
i was gonna rant but cant be bothered.
japan treats anyone who is not clearly of japanese descent (which is determined by both appearance and language ability) like americans treated "non americans" (same goes for australians or brits im sure) a hundred or two hundred years ago, like an outsider. another fitting analogy would be someone new to class in primary school or something.
the main difference is no matter how long you stay in japanese society you are never and i mean never gonna be treated as a member of the "club" by the vast majority.
this will only change by some sort of western style multiculturalism through cohabitation (which hasnt come close to starting yet and might take 100 years or more to sink in..).
shit happens and i dont get bullied or anything so it doesnt "really" bother me to any great degree.
Japanese are pretty racist when it comes to their asian brethren. Korea town is a funny place - at night you have latin prostitutes roaming the streets around there. It was a bit of a culture shock I can tell you.Quote:

is just general hate because or does it have to something in history between korea and japan? is it mostly due to alot of crap from WWII?
I believe a lot of the Filipina women go there for work. Mainly as female entertainers. Japayuki, I believe is the word in Tagalog.Quote:

i see, i get TFC (the filipion channel) at home and they did this one tv show about life of a filipina dancer in japan. i guess that's what the majority sees it.
a lot of history exists between various countries in asia, but to be honest its the same thing you find between the european countries (which also stems from long finished wars).Quote:

burmese hate japanese coz of the war, they also hate thais becoz of their current "war" or whatever it is....

well.. from what I understand Koreans resent Japanese big time, which is understandable to some degree. Japanese view Koreans as a bit pathetic - ofcourse I'm talking about stereotypes here, not something you will find with everyone.Quote:

its the same as saying indians work as computer programmers or in 7eleven. africans as cab drivers etc.Quote:

same thing for me, everyone who meets me will automatically assume:
1. im american
2. i teach english
3. i cant speak japanese
4. i dont like sushi...

I remember my experience when I went there. As soon as they heard I was from, "America," I was automatically considered Cool. Especially among my Ex's friends. It felt like being a Rock Star or celebrity almost. That kind of status.Quote:

I know one thing, if I wasn't with my GF at the time. I would have gone BUCK WILD all over Kansai University. :loco:
I am Japanese and gotta tell you that I am mixed with Mexican, Black, and Native American blood and yet I still get dissed by my own family about it. They don't see me for me just the Mexican, Black and Native in me. They tell me that I will never be a "real Japanese man". Native Japanese are just as bad as a "The Man". I have heard that in Japan that there are places in some of the city where it clearly says that "NO MINORITIES ALLOWED ONLY NATIVE JAPANESE". Terrible.
@el duque.. some chinese (quite a large group i think) were holding up signs saying they hate japanese, go back to your own country and the like at matches held in china (i think they were fifa matches). these people threw garbage and stuff at the players and the govt did very little to stop it.Quote:

@dakingof.... kansai gaidai?? i went there for a year in 2002. oh yeah japanese girls arent easy, id say on the average american or aussie girls give it up quicker, its just the ones who are addicted to western men who are an easy lay. try your average japanese girl at a normal club (not a gaijin bar) and youll find its a whole different story id say.
Off topic: didn't you tell me that Pat Morita(Mr. Miyagi) goes to some of your family banquets?Quote:

don't they also treat the ainu like crap too?
Indeed, Kansai Gaidai. That's where my ex studied. I still keep in touch with her. She graduated this year and is now working at Kansai Electric Power, doing sales.Quote:

Anyway, I got to go back and visit Osaka again. One of the best experiences of my Life.
Sorry, for spamming this thread with such rubbish.
nah your story has made this thread interesting.Quote:

SO true. Sometimes I get really bothered and want to lash out, but other times I think it's innocent, cute ignorance.Quote:

I mean I don't care if he gets girls, as no offensive, we get def girls here and of diff varities but as long as peeps don't try to treat me or him like shit.
I am learning Japanese and by then I HOPE to be very good at it.
We just want 2 go 4 the culture, buy things and see Japan and have a laff and hopefully thru my martial arts classes here, speak 2 one of my sensei friends and us attend their class and even see how they are over there.
ppl stare at you a little, some places more than others, some days more than others. you wont notice unless youre looking for it though.
in terms of what i mentioned above its very subtle and would take you a year or two of living here to notice.
how the hell can they tell the difference between koreans or chinese or themselves etc? sure i can see identifying some big white otaku dude as an outsider because he looks like a giant cyclops with his huge 6 foot frame and giant overstretched japanese flag tshirt.
they cant of course on the street but take english classes for example, soon as they hear a chinese name or hear a bit of an accent they are like "you are chinese arent you"Quote:

FUnny you ask, in Japan, the Brazillian is allowed to roam free with the understanding they they can be hunted for sport. However, Brazillians are permitted to fight back so long as they don't kill the Japanese hunter. Since the system is very busy and the Brazillian season's been reduced to more ceremonial weekends than entire months on end, Brazillians accept the risk and move to Japan for the ability to work for most of the year and cram themselves into really tiny apartments. I think Japanese traders farm the finest Brazillian studs from the street children of Sao Paolo and Rio. Facinating stuff, really.
It sounds like someone's been flipping through FatGuy's DVD collection.Quote:

War is what I think leads to all the racism. One culture doing wrong to another in the past creates bad blood for years to come.
anyone catch the part in kill bill vol. 1 where boss tanaka won't accept o-ren ishii because of her half-chinese and half-japanese background? odd aint it?
when are we gonna see a black president? or a women for that matter (australia isnt any better, there has never been a female prime minister).Quote:

The Japanese during WWII had the great excuse for taking over Asia as "liberating us from the white peril". Of course, they also viewed themselves (and many probably still do) as being the superior Asian race, and the mainlanders are all just inferior.Quote:

And yes, there are very, very deep blood feuds between us. Considering all our cultures are thousands of years old, this history doesn't die quickly.
I myself have some beef with the Japanese. Serious beef.

well i can understand that and my analogy may seem absurd but i have no hate for the english because they shipped my forefathers off to australia (got rid of them). i dont see why you hate when the japanese of today who though sharing the same cultural traits of their forefathers ( ignorance in regards to any culture but their own and the notion they are unique in the world) are completely innocent of the blame in my eyes. i find it hard to understand how you could hate the japanese (and correct me if im wrong) when you didnt suffer their cruelty first or perhaps even second hand?
to continue to hate becoz that is what you were taught to do is limiting yourself and perpetuating something that is better forgotten (i dont say forgiven becoz i wouldnt expect the son of someone who killed my relative to forgive me..).
im not a big believer nor can i understand "inherited hate".
Jews don't really hate Germans, because the Germans apologized for what they did in one sense or another. No one really associates today's Germans with the Nazis, simply because most of them don't feel that way.Quote:

My nation's capital was in Nanjing before WWII. When Nanjing was completely leveled, and they murdered millions of the city's civilians in a few bloody days, the capital was moved to Beijing.
Almost all of the shit going on in Asia right now can be traced to Japanese occupation during WWII.
How did the Communists rise to power in China? A large part of it was anger at the Nationalist government's inability to curb the Japanese. How did the Nationalists lose to the Communists in China's civil war? The Nationalists were severely weakened by the Japanese, and so the Communists took over. Why is Korea divided? After the Japanese left Korea in shambles, there was no clear leader or separation. I don't know too much about the rest of Asia, but I think someone else could probably explain why everyone else in mainland Asia hates them too.
If they would only say "sorry". The Asian countries aren't even demanding aid, or anything like that. Just respect, and an apology for their atrocities.
Only 40 Japanese higher-ups were executed for war crimes after WWII.
The most disturbing part of it is, every single soldier felt it was his duty to maim, murder, and rape as many civilians as possible.
Beheadings in Iraq? Ha. You want beheadings?

They're smiling.
Its true. Japan's unwillingness to apologise for what it did during the second world war is disgusting. China and Korea where completly fucked because of Japan and we are talking only 60 years ago.
